I see what's going on. The completion % drops for almost everyone! That makes total sense. So what's happening is that the average completed pass is longer on 3rd, making up for the decreased completion %. Passer ratings and Y/A stay about the same, meaning those stats are insensitive to what is intuitive for us. Also means one should be able to come up with a more intuitive measure of efficiency than Y/A, namely one that takes into account completion % in some way (better than passer rating does).

Anyone notice what an actual "franchise" QB does, even when he's struggled for stretches of the game? Romo showed us that. The difference in pocket presence between he and Tanny is night and day ...... as is anticipation in how plays unfold.

Trust me, almost all of us noticed. It's why you're seeing more people souring on Tannehill than before.

Situational awareness. Ability to extend plays. All we have is a guy who can throw lasers "when" the pocket is perfectly clean. More often than not he needs everyone else around him playing damn near mistake free to even be an impact.

Didn't he get a record for most consecutive passes thrown without an incompletion? There have been several games where he has done things like this. At times he looks great and so it is so upsetting when is bad. Wish there was point where he could find a half way point. He did not look that good in this game but he did get them back into the game for a while.

So he got hot for a single quarter. What does that mean in the grand scheme of things? At the end of the day he couldn't close and neither could the rest of the team for that matter. That's called being mediocre.

You make zero sense. Unless you're beating your own chest right now. You offer nothing on the subject at hand. But lemme guess, he tossed that one beautiful pass to Stills and now you're a believer again. Too funny

You realize how many passes QB's across the league throw during the course of a season? Almost every one of them has an isolated throw like that here and there.

Exactly. It's not like our offense only got 9 first downs and went 1 for 10 on third downs not allowing the defense to rest up in-between drives. Jeez, Tannehill haters.

bro, folks who were skeptical don't need to be puffing their chests out and mocking others, lets not do that, lets figure out what we have, how we can improve, and come up with a plan at the qb position..

I think its safe to say that even with a new staff that ryan will be the qb next year, however, we should scout every qb hard in this coming draft, and if he gets to us, we draft him, that way were prepared for all scenarios.

Yet he is 20th in the league this year in completion percentage. So what?

None of the people who do the actual scouting or drafting for this team read these boards...

This is why if we re ever gonna be a feared team with Thill or even a playoff, wild card type team we are going to need to build a team that can dominate on the ground and play stellar D. We basically need a Jay Fiedler team around Thill. I think Thill is better than Fiedler but the point is when teams know we re passing Thill can't get it done. He's the opposite Dan Marino. I never minded 3rd and 10 with Marino. I knew he wouldn't take the 3 yard pass completion. Thill is the kinda QB that you need a Kubiak Texans type offense to succeed. He does well with playaction. I think this team needs to look for maulers on the interior of the oline.

The defense also gave up 17 pts! No QB can be expected to win when they have to lead their team to 18+ pts. Our offense scored 14 and give up 7. What the hell else do you want from the QB? Bunch of ch uckleheads!

You'd think that, but then you remember those third downs, sort of like today, when Tannehill had 5 full seconds to throw the ball and he still couldn't move the chains!?! Oh wait...we see that every week too...

It's still definitely 100% the line's fault on every play though. It has to be, because if it wasn't....

You realize the football IQ of the fi y who said that isn't any better than the blocking ability of Dallas Thomas? It's funny how a handful of sacks completely omits the other 20+ passes every week. The line stinks but every QB deals with pressure, especially on 3rd down. Romo got hit more than Thill (didn't look that up but sure seemed like it). I thought our D played well for the most part. Even got 2 turnovers and our O still managed +7 pts. On the bright side Thill did throw 3 tds today.

Yeah like Thill being a top 5-10 QB lmao...I'm sure the front office folks who basically put him in the 18-23 range would get a good chuckle.

when you have 3rd and 30 bc of holding and false starts and illegal formations and your playbook only consist of 2 yard passes don't expect a good 3rd down conversion percentage.

Someone not named Tannehill. It would help if we choose someone who could see a blitzer roaring down on them right in front of their face as well.

it seemed to me the biggest culprit today was lazor, followed by drive killing penalties. campbell's first response in his presser however was penalties and third down drops (which seemed to me to be drive killers in the first half more). he mentioned the pick six, went back to the penalties and then couldnt even come up with a response for the landry botched kr. also made a point about the run defense sucking. surpirsed he didnt mention the 3rd and longs we gave up on defense.

i still think lazor was the primary culprit today followed by the penalties. that one drive where pouncey and cameron(?) had penalties and put us back to 1st and 25 were drive killers and then fox had that holding call

How often do we end up 3rd and 30? Seriously lol. It's ok that we re bottom of the barrel on 3rd down because 1 out of 100 times we end up 3rd and 30.
