Yes, I did. But that was based on the idea he would ascend. I said numerous times that what he had been up to the beginning of the year was NOT good enough...BUT, the arrow was pointing up and I thought he was ready to take the next step in his career.

He has let me down, the whole team has.

9th in yds, 11th in tds, 4th most sacked man in the league. I'm not trying to prove he's elite. I'm simply saying he's not some scrub out there. There's Qbs who have never passed for 4k yards and 20+ tds in their careers, and yet Tannehill's on pace to do it in back to back seasons.

He's not the failure you all want him to be.

Fair enough. I definitely agree with that last part. Hopefully better coaching, better playing, and better decisions are coming. Starting now.

This is the issue I've had in this debate in regards to the "anti-Tannehill" crowd in general. No one has said he was elite. No one has said he was great or that he was a top 10 QB. Yet, for some reason we are attacked as if that's exactly what we've said. It's just not the case. People can take it however they want, but they should at least try to get a better understanding of our positioning.

Anyway, it's Jets week. **** the Jets. Let's dominate those turds.

Rocky, how do you remember my evaluation s well yet don't remember MANY posters saying he was ALREADY an elite QB, almost all of his biggest supporters here claimed he was ALREADY top 10. We had guys who are respected around here (deservedly or not claim he was already a top 6 Qb in the league.

    They jumped the gun.

Well, your top 10 evaluation was posted in a fairly recent thread. I also have a really good memory. It's one of my strengths.

As for others calling him elite, if they did, I didn't see it. I should also note I was referring to the recent flame wars that have taken place over the last few weeks. Guys like Fin D, resnor, Adam, etc. I don't remember any of them calling Tannehill elite.

If they did, I apologize. I think there were some posts that said he COULD be elite, but I don't remember seeing any that outright said he was elite at the moment. And if they did, they'd be wrong. And that's coming from a Tannehill lover.

They did, and those guys were not the only ones. Why do you think they were still arguing with me even though I called Ryan a top 12-15 QB?? Its because some were already claiming he had "arrived".

He threw for 5K yards, he is obviously one of the ten best QBs ever.

I'm one of the biggest Tannehill defenders, but I'm starting to change my mind. Look, he's not in the most ideal situation. I get it. Interm coach, garbage OC, bad line, etc. But at some point, if you're going to be a franchise qb and make the elite jump, you have to just do it. He's maddeningly inconsistant. One week he's almost perfect and the next he's a nightmare. I wait, every game for that late game, untimely sack. And it always happens. But then he teases you with the throws he's connected with Stills on. And I guess I'm starting to finally see it. He's up and down and that translates to what we've seen for the last 10 years: 7-9 to 8-8. He's not going anywhere soon. I'm ok with that. I'd like to see this draft class and see what a potential new coach, GM and OC can do. They should be running the ball more. I'm perfectly fine with Tannehill not throwing the ball 35 times a game. If he's not one to carry a team, get the pieces around him to make the TEAM successful. With all that said, I'd draft a QB. Get someone in there that's either going to light a fire under him or replace him. Plain and simple. NE did it once with Bledsoe and Brady. I'm not comparing Tannehill to either of them, but the goal should be to constantly make your team better. Plain and simple. The Dolphins can't be so married to him that they don't look at a QB to add to the roster. He's not one of the top 5, so he shouldn't be comfortable. Next season he should be playing for his future with Miami. If it doesn't work out, so be it. And that was hard for me to type. I went all in on Tannehll because I wanted him to be "it." Just like I did with Chad Henne. Time to stop rooting with my heart and root with my head. I don't care who QB's the Miami Dolphins, I just want to win.

I also think "elite" is a subjective term. We all likely have different variations of what we consider to be elite. Personally, elite is held for the top 5-7 at any given position. Reshad Jones is an elite safety. Ndamukong Suh is an elite defensive tackle. I think Lamar Miller is on the verge of being elite. Mike Pouncey is right there.

Right now, Ryan Tannehill is a middle of the road QB. Probably around 16 or so. I hope he can climb into that 10-12 range. That would be very good for us, and I still believe he can.

I don't have perfect memory either, but this is what I remember before the season began: most put him between 10-15, but there were many who said he was already top 10 (though most of those put him at the lower end), and yes some said he had already arrived. I personally don't remember anyone claiming he was already elite, but yes having that potential several said. I personally put him right at or just below 10 before the season began.

See this where your getting snarky. When did I say throwing a lot yds equates to all time greatness?

5,000 yds is pretty damn impressive though, and yes it shows that stafford belongs as a starting qb. It helped a lot that his defense was so good and gave him the ball back consistently (something we know nothing about).

Yeah the pendulum is swinging for more and more people towards admitting Tannehill is not the answer for us at QB, though how to find a better QB is still a big ??.

Im simply showing why passing yards is imo a poor way to evaluate qbs.

Didn't RT say it himself before the season?. "Judge me on wins."

Yes, because he doesn't care about stats, he only cares about winning.

But that doesn't mean you judge him on wins as an individual. Ndamukong Suh has said the same thing, and him and Tannehill have the same record.

I have never claimed that Tannehill is "elite." Nor has FinD, to my recollection. We have claimed that we believe Tannehill has the potential to do that, and we've claimed that with decent protection, Tannehill has been able to put up really good numbers, and had the offense being successful.

Fin-O, the issue people have had with you is that you spent far more time talking about all the ways Tannehill sucked, and how he was responsible for losses, that when you said that he was in the 12-15 range, no one believed you. It didn't match up with all your other posts.

But, whatever. I've said all along, I think his 4th year is where we see what he is. He isn't impressing me this year.
