It was still a league where you can get by with a power running game. The last few have been very pass oriented. What has Parcells done with the Cowboys other than a playoff appearance or two? What have the Cowboys done in his absence? Sure, he helped build them up defensively but it was TO and Romo who provided the boost, two guys Parcells did not want.

He wanted to keep Carter and Bledsoe. Carter got a failed drug test, forcing Parcells to drop him before Romo. Would not start Romo while Bledsoe was struggling mightily. It is believed that Payton offered a 3rd for Romo which Parcells accepted but was dropped because of owner. After all the Quincy Carters, Chad Hutchinsons, Vinnys, and Bledsoes, the answer was right there and it took the last possible option for that answer to bloom. Cowboy fans consider themselves lucky that all things fell in place or Romo would be a Saint.

With the screw-ups in camp, I don't know why the team doesn't want to look at Daunte Culpepper. He CANNOT be worse than Quincy Carter.

My God, Quincy Carter? Beck is done folks. That #9 QB stuff is a curse!

give the man a break !! Quincy and Parcells are both human, and we are lucky to have a VP who has such a reputaion for bringing in high character guys. Now in the end, they"re still football players, and the last i checked nobody is walking on water, at least Quincy has kept his football mind sharp instead of just totally tanking.

You are offering alot of opinions on other QBs, so I'll just accept them as such.

But you did ask a question that deserves an answer. What has Parcells done with the Cowboys other than a playoff appearance or two?
I'll tell ya...he took a team that went 5-11 three years in a row and turned them into a legitimate NFC powerhouse.

And if Romo is able to get the snap down vs Seattle, the Cowboys advance instead of Seattle. From there, who knows?

And by constantly bringing up the "loser QBs" he had, IMO, just adds to his resume. He accomplished all he did IN SPITE of his QBs, not because of them.

Again, I don't doubt Parcells ability to aid the team in all areas other than QB and WR. He's just not that into them. That's his philosophy. A defense first, running game priority based team can only get you so far these days. It's why the Jags haven't been able to reach the Super Bowl or Conference Championships.

You can't deal in the what ifs. If Carter didn't fail a drug test, Romo would be a Saint by the end of the offseason on Payton's roster and Cowboys might not have even sniffed the playoffs much less against Seattle. Parcells was going to ship Romo off for a 3rd rounder until Jones intervened and demanded a ludicrous offer Payton wouldn't accept (only Speilman would send a 2nd rounder for a QB who's looked good in preseason). Oh, and if Jones gave Parcells full control, TO wouldn't even be on the team. There's two key pieces from the offense on last year's 13-3 powerhouse contender that wouldn't have been there if Parcells had his way. They might've been a 9-7, 10-6 team without em but certainly aren't considered legit contenders. They turned into a powerhouse when Garrett and Phillips let Romo and TO go nuts and the secondary blossomed.

Then maybe he oughta let someone else handle the QB decisions so that it won't be either a detriment or dead weight and rather an important and productive cog on his team. Sean Payton and David Lee are excellent QB gurus and their success record independent of Parcells shows this. People here are talking Super Bowl under Parcells. For that to work, in this day, you need an elite franchise QB. Until then, we'd be just a playoff team, a 9-7, 10-6, 11-5 one but we won't likely sniff anything further than the semis. So the question is this: Are we happy with a few playoff performances or do we want more in the future? If you answered the latter, then Parcells needs to start thinking of a more complete team and that means elite franchise QB and WR, no matter how badly he feels about them.

    Ok Regan, fair enough.

But let me ask you then...What QB was available that if you had been GM you would have brought in?

And what WRs? And are you in favor of bringing in Anquan Boldin if we can get him for a second round pick?

I'm guessing you mean during Parcells' reign in Dallas? Well, in 2003, I was really high on Jake Delhomme, Brian Griese (who I thought got a raw deal here and proved it with a 97 QB rating in Tampa the next year when AJ and Jay fizzled), and Jake Plummer. Any of them would've been better than Carter. 2004, Griese, Garcia, Kurt Warner would've been better options than re-signing Carter and keeping Testy or getting Henson. I can go on but you get the point.

I would've pulled the gun on TO without the owner forcing me to. I wanted him here in Miami certainly would've wanted him in Dallas. Definitely for Boldin. And if Lions put Roy Williams on the block, him too. Heck, even Chad Johnson. I'm very big on WR's as a former HS CB.

So are the QC rumors dead yet? It just seems like a bad joke.

We had him. I think he played 3 games, lost 2 and was gone the next year.

Maybe GB would give up Rogers? :)

    Still want seconds?

Honestly, I would be fine with Pennington and Clemens right now. Hardly worse than the QB situation we're in.

    Oh, we are, we are.

The problem is it is turning into a real competition. Kellens has the arm, but not the accuracy. Chad has the game management but not the explosiveness. Tough choices.

Do you go with the known who can get you the known (9-10 wins with weapons, out in the first round of playoffs) or go with the unknown who might have a huge upside?

No, I was saying that Tuna should give GB a call now that Brett is back and make an offer.

Ah, well I've been clamoring for it but I doubt Tuna would do that. QB, WR, and sometimes CB are relatively off his radar when it comes to upgrades compared to OL, DL, LB, RB.

That is the right approach. Build the team from the lines.

It will be interesting to see if he can use his magic on the Dolphins, get you into a winning season and the playoffs. 2-4 years probably.

It has so I'm not completely dissatisfied. But I do wish he'd also put a little more thought in those areas in addition to the lines because that's what's keeping him lately from another shot at a ring. If the answer is an aging Drew Bledsoe or Vinny Testaverde, I don't wanna think about what the question is. Didn't really finish the job in Dallas because of it. But if that's our plan, just have him rebuild and then take it from there in terms of QB, WR, outside the lines, I'm fine with that.

    No such history, man.

Buy me a player jersey and he's gone by next season. It even worked on Marino.
