Yes, he had a rough go on his first stint and his personnel decisions were bad...but bring this guy in and let him coach our football team. He knows the division and the best QB in our division as well as anyone. That's huge when game planning. He also runs the Erhardt-Perkins offense that is featured by some of the better offenses in the game. Good read on the concepts for those who enjoy those things (http://grantland.com/features/how-t...helped-maintain-dominance-tom-brady-patriots/) If anyone can come in and change the dullness of this team offensively its Josh. He is operating with a depleted WR core and people are coming in off the street to play OL in NE. To me he solves a lot of problems this team has.
Meh... I'm not keen on McDaniels. Again, I'd rather have Hue Jackson as our next HC at this point out of currently employed NFL candidates. McDaniels to me, has failed basically everywhere he's been without an elite QB in Brady. Tomorrow, when I'm at work, not working I'll have to look at this more in depth, but... my initial reaction to him, is no thanks.
Serious question...Whens the last time a NE coach has turned out good? Rex Ryan? Any of the 25 offensive coaches that have come through there? Sorry, but it would scare me to hire someone that works with a top 3 QB of all time. I could coach that offense to the playoffs.
Yeah, I'm not thrilled with hiring a guy who's success stems from having Tom Brady as his quarterback.
You guys are missing one thing, his creativity in play calling. He failed by trading away Marshall and drafting Tim Tebow. The only other QB he has really coached was Kyle Orton, who also had teams like Miami drooling when he was a FA.
If you're looking for a guy who got a coaching job solely off of the back of the head coach pulling all the weight and a HOF QB, who was in completely over his head on his first go-round, who will develop conflict with players and push them out, and get you to 8-8 at best...why not just bring Philbin back?
By the way, Hue Jackson has a worse resume in regards to failure as McDaniels. As an OC in Wash, Atl, and Oak he failed miserably. Now he has the red rifle, a good OL and great pass catchers and he is the hot name? Not saying he isn't a good candidate, but some of the reasons you guys are arguing against McDaniels, Jackson seems to have a worse track record in.
That, about sums up how I feel about McDaniels. I'll do some more reading/researching... but that's my initial feelings here.
All fair points. I think though, you have to look at the organizational failures of Washington, and Oakland in particular, a case could probably me made for Atlanta too, but I dont recall when Hue was there. Hue's resume though, is far more complete than just dealing with Dalton. He's served in multiple coaching positions, in charge of basically every unit on a team at some point in his career. Tannenbaum likes that in a coach, and tbh... so do I. I want a guy who has a clue on all sides. I want a guy who's going to manage his OC and DC, not let them, manage him. In other news... gronkowski is being carted off in NE. Looks like his knee...
QBs like Brady make their OCs look genius. Checking off. Hot routing. Reading defenses presnap. Knowing where to go with the ball. They don't need creative plays. Lazor would look like a genius with a QB like that.
I definitely dont see all the love for Hue.... Any coordinator would love the Bengals job. 6 explosive weapons and a pretty damn good quarterback, and one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Ill still bring him in for an interview however, because with Ross you never end up with your first choice. Id interview Sean Payton Mike Shula Hue Jackson Teryl Austin Scort Linehan Vin Fangio Sean McDermott In that order...
Shula: HC of the Miami Dolphins. Has a nice ring to it. Seriously, Shula might be due. Knows QBs. I could live with him.
He was too immature at the time. But this criticism is nonsense. If you were judged the way you're judging him - no one would hire you. But, when you watch him in interviews he's clearly matured since his days in Denver. There are other candidates, to be sure, but there will be other coaching openings as well so it's not a slam dunk on those others. McDaniels has to be on a short list of candidates. He's continued to learn from BB. And, he's been able to make a ton of adjustments in style of play. I would not put him as the top candidate. But, he's a legit candidate.
What? They had to keep trying to move the football at that point in the game. If you're blaming his injury on any one - it is on the refs for the cheap interference call on Gronk before that when he had a first down. Terrible call. But, you might also blame the Denver DB for going low. Just a terrible hit. However, whether Gronk is done for the year depends on whether its an ACL or not. Preliminary word is its clearly an MCL. But, if that's all it is, he can be back in 6 weeks or less depending on the severity. It's clearly an MCL but the ACL is still up in the air. If that's what it is, Gronk is gone for at least a year - which really sucks as an NFL fan b/c he's one of the most unique players in the league to watch.
I vote for Shula. Because if the NFL is a fix, having Shula start a new dynasty in miami would be up their alley.
The single biggest checklist item should be "has this coach over achieved with lesser players and coached them up?". If any prospective coach ticks that box then they get an interview.
I have zero confident Ross is going to hire a quality head coach. The problem with this organization starts at the very top and I don't see anything changing until Ross sells the team sometime in the future. As the owner since 2009, we have seen this organization go from an 11-5 playoff team in 2008, to now having their worst team since 2007. The one constant over those last six years is Ross and his inability to hire a competent front office or coaching staff. I suspect the next HC will be a clone of Philbin. Someone who has no other offers, but is willing to take the job with the knowledge he must work with Tannebaum and Hickey, even though they aren't competent in their positions. I wish I felt better about the future of this organization, but I just don't. Because as long as Ross remains majority owner, I see nothing to feel positive about in regards to the Dolphins turning around the mess they now find themselves in.
Over Josh McDaniel? A horse that has been taught to count Mr. Ed-style. Hue Jackson and Adam Gase should be the top of the list.
As if McDaniels would take the job anyway. He's waiting for the perfect situation before he takes another HC job. Gase is the obvious answer but he will be in high demand. Odds he takes the Dolphins job are slim to none.
expectations are he is not gonna miss more than one game
No one on the Patriots staff are coming here to help us. We need to look elsewhere. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
McDaniels has more experience in a winning environment than many so he wouldn't be the worst to bring in. I say don't jump just yet hold on an let the season play out more before attempting to snag anyone. We need a HC that can control every part of the team.
I like Gase as a candidate, not at all in on Hue Jackson, or Mike Shula, neither guy has taken a "HC's" route, guy's that have been around forever and don't have teams knocking down their door to be a HC is an alarm bell/red flag, not to mention in Jacksons case, the word is that he lost the team when he was coaching the Raiders and that was why he was fired. HC's are leaders, these guy's that get chances because they've managed to stick around for so long, seem to get chances based almost on a seniority type mentality, nearly all good HCs shoot up the coaching ranks, it's because they are leaders, and they can't be denied because you WANT them in positions of authority. Gase is on that "HC" trajectory, that doesn't mean he'll be successful, but he rose quickly, meaning that people have seen something in him and have continued to promote him rather quickly.
Eh, Bruce Arians is one hell of a coach and it took paganos bout with cancer for anyone to notice. Arians been in the league for YEARS.
McDaniels didn't strike me as a guy who wants to stay an OC I'd the big boy job came back around. Nor did he seem like he'd shy away from facing belichek. He'll def be in the discussion.
