I don't know how a 27 year old graduate assistant or whatever is going to fill a whole football game with better plays, after the OC is fired. I don't think we learn much more about Tannehill. The only thing to figure out is what synonym for losing rhymes with the top draft prospect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not sure if serious. You hear it, every game against the "elite" QBs. Commentators say you need to get pressure, hit the QB. We know when Brady gets knocked around, it affects his game. How do you prevent that? With a good ****ing oline.
Miami has spent 14 of the 21 draft picks in rounds 1-4 on offense over the past 5 years including 4 - 1st round (two went to the OL), 3 - 2nd round (one OL), 3 - 3rd round (two OL), and 4 - 4th round (one OL) picks, while the only 1st round pick on defense was Dion Jordan. Miami has also given contracts to Wallace, Albert, Camerson, Jennings and traded Wallace and a pick to get Stills. Yet, our offense has scored 20 points or less in 9 of 11 games this year (also 4 of the last 8 last year). Meanwhile our defense has been almost totally neglected in the draft where good players are found and hardly any resources have gone toward the D other than one player (Suh). What do Tanne-fans want to do? Continue to throw more 1st round draft picks on the OL and ignore the defense...allows for the perfect scapegoat by complaining about the defense deflecting criticism from Tannehill...seems crazy to me.
Find me one QB who won a Super Bowl with a 24th or lower ranked offensive line (combined, the Russell Wilson argument has been destroyed already). Maybe one exists. I cant think of one
Super Bowl winners = Seattle 2013 (32 in sacks allowed) and Pittsburgh 2008 (29 in sacks allowed), LA Raiders 1983 (24th), Oak Raiders 1980 (24th) Since the Tom Brady era (2001) only 5 teams have been in the top 10 in fewest sacks allowed, 6 have been ranked 11-19, and 4 have been ranked 21-32...teams that were in the top 10 had QBs that know how to get rid of the ball (Brady = 2, P Manning, E Manning, Brees). Meanwhile Super Bowl losers have also been ranked 24th, 25th, 30th in the past 5 years.
This seems inaccurate. I mean, we've brought in other free agents on defense. Dansby, Grimes, Ellerbe, on and on. We got rid of young talent, Davis, Smith, etc. We've seen guys go to other teams and be successful. The resources we've thrown at the offense have been ill spent. We haven't exactly gotten players that have been successful. Arguing that we've thrown resources at the offense proves nothing, other than our GM and coaches were terrible evaluators and schemers.
Since 2012 within our 1st 4 picks: Oliver Vernon, Dion Jordan, Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, Jelani Jenkins, Jordan Phillips, and last draft our 4th pick (5th rnd) was Bobby McCain. What's hurt us is that these guys haven't developed. OV, Jenkins, Phillips, and McCain have all shown talent. I agree with the gist of your post though that more resources have gone to Offense than the Defense. And if Ross hadn't been so enamored with Philbin, we likely still have Vernon Davis and Carlos Dansby. Two guys still playing at a high level elsewhere who we could definitely use. I expect our #1 pick this coming draft will either be DB or DE.
If you're being sarcastic, why is Fitzpatrick mediocre but is a Harvard Alumni with the highest Wonderlic score in the NFL ever? He's obviously smarter than Tannehill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Please go on and on...So you are saying Miami has done a good job of investing in the defense in the past 5 years? They brought in Dansby in 2010 and let him go after 2012. Do you seriously think Miami has brought in more talent on defense than they have gotten rid of? Dansby, Davis, Smith, Carroll, Wilson, Odrick, Starks, Soliai, Langford, McDaniel... I agree Grimes was a good pickup. They got him at a discount coming off a knee injury.
Grimes had an achilles tear I believe. But yes, this organization loves to let quality defensive talent walk.
Exactly. When asked about what Marino had that others didn't, Walsh responded that he just had a strong, quick arm to get the ball out without indicating where it was going. Marino just hit the open man. He was the greatest pure passer ever, but not necessarily the greatest QB ever. He's up there though, definitely. Edit: forgot to post my reference. Lol http://youtu.be/WVbYVfeA5FM Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yet that go dan absolutely nothing in terms of rings. You can be the greatest qb of all time yet if the team around you is absolute dog **** it matters for nothing. marino had one of if not the greatest coach in nfl history working with him as well and it still wasn't enough to win it all.
Oh yeah, 3 man rushes always get pressure on us and the opposing defense is so scared of Tannehill they have 8 guys dropping into pass coverage. Quite the opposite. Opposing teams stack the box against the run and force Tannehill to throw. Anybody know what our rushing stats were in our 4 wins? I know one of them was when Miller rushed for like 200 yards or whatever and all the receivers got a ton of YAC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The quote I remember being attributed to Walsh was "Joe Montana was a product of the system. Dan Marino was the system."
no more like they rush 3 since it gets pressure against our ****ty oline, so there is no real reason to bring more and they drop 8 to take away any kind of throwing, since our OC was too ****ing stupid to call a run play it renders the offense useless. if our oline blocked adequately and we ran the ball, you wouldnt see 8 men dropping back and those 3 or 4 plays yesterday where we lined under center just to run a playaction pass(lol) might have actually froze the linebackers and safeties enough to open something in the middle or down the field. instead since we didnt try to run and decided to throw 58 times(with a qb people say our oc didnt trust lol) with 8 dropping into coverage with 3 or 4 yard routes coming underneath and since there was 0 fear in anything going beyond 5 yards the safeties and linebackers were running downhill smashing our receivers and runningbacks. its the same **** that has happened all year. this offensive scheme has been figured out by the league, yet we keep running it anyway.
Three. Three man rushes. This line at times is absolutely pathetic. It's as if you could rush three well-fed toddlers and still get pressure.
And before Philbin arrived, our 3-4 defense was actually good. It pains me to think how good it could've been had we thrown as many resources at that defense and kept guys where they should be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep, I thought the best plan in 2012 was to sign Flynn, draft Keuchly (also thought Floyd would have been decent at #8) and Wilson...sure would have missed on Flynn, but...
Well, dog ****, no. Just never had a decent running game to take pressure off of him. Shula is partly to blame for not providing that for him. Both are still some of the greatest ever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, I've seen that on line so many times but I haven't found any sound or video. What a quote, huh? I completely agree, btw. I'm gonna try to find the video, but I believe it was something aired on NFL Network. Montana said Walsh was so detail oriented that some passing plays, he wanted him to take an exact number of steps on the dropback and that X receiver should be here, Y there, Z there with pinpoint accuracy. Walsh was amazing. Didn't he invent the West Coast offense or did he just popularize it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yeah that was kind of my point. ryan tannehill throwing 58 times against 8 defenders put a ton of pressure on him, it has all season and tannehill isnt dan marino and joe philbin sure as hell isnt don shula.
I wanted to keep Moore and rebuild until our team was ready for a young QB. I wanted Kuechly. My buddy told me about Wilson but I didn't think anything of it. I'm still pissed about Jordan being misused. I don't think I'll ever get over it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Completely agree. I've always said that Tannehill needs a great running game and defense. I've said before that if Marino couldn't win a ring without a running game, imagine how much Tannehill would suffer. We just need to become a running team. Campbell knows it, we know it, everybody knows it. They just have to do it and I don't know if play calling is the only issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You know, I think this decision had much less to do with Tannehill and much more to do with run/pass balance, especially Lazor's habit of going pass wacky whenever we were behind, even if it was 3 points down in the first quarter.
Thing is we can't know for sure if the only issue is play calling. It always seems to me that opposing teams are mostly forcing Tannehill to throw by focusing on the run. We've got 4 wins. What are the rushing stats in those wins? I'm betting really, really good. That's all teams worry about against us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Question is?? Will you get an excuse why Ryan is different, or just ignored for destroying his laughable theory.
So here's the breakdown of rushing stats in our 4 wins. Redskins: only 74 to 161 but we won the turnover battle. Titans: 180 to 63. Texans: 248 to 71. Eagles: 99 to 83. That's it. The stats speak for themselves. Tannehill just cannot win without a very, very good running game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
do you eat with a spork? once again the tannehill bashing crowd proves that it has flunked 3rd grade english. what part of "combined" is beyond your comprehension. seriously, at this point just looking at the IQ level of the two sides should be enough to make a determination as to which side is right. seattle 9th rushing 32nd passing puts them at 21st overall for that year have no stats going back to the 80s on run blocking but with art shell and gene upshaw on the 80s line i hazard to guess they were top ten run blocking for king and eeghen. and in 84 they had marcus allen which would lead me to believe they had another stellar run blocking team but congratulations, pittsburgh it is. in 2008 they ranked 26th in run and 29th in pass blocking. approaching 50 super bowls and one team has done it. the 2008 pittsburgh steelers. so basically you have a 2% chance of winning a super bowl with such a poor line. now thats the strategy that all spork eaters should follow
Ouch...you got real personal. Obviously, I am dealing with hurt girlfriend syndrome. I'm sorry if you feel I offended your man.
i think we are all well aware of our front office deficient ability to spot talent, you didn't have to highlight it. And our coaches inability to harvest any sort of talent.
Keep in mind random chance for any single OL rank would be 1/32 = 3% (random meaning it doesn't affect the outcome). If you treat run and pass blocking as independent rankings, then the probability for any pair of rankings is just under 0.1% (multiply ((1/32)^2)*100). So if you ask what is the probability of getting 26th in run or worse and 29th in pass blocking or worse, that's 28 possible pairs, so 28*0.1 = 2.8% So saying you have a 2% chance is not far from what you'd expect if you assume the OL doesn't matter that much.
