dude, im baffled. id rather have grienke. thats more money than kershaw. If i ever have a son....left handed pitcher is going to be his sport of choice.
If there was anyone deserving of that money its definitely grienke. He was and still is the best pitcher available. Thats a true ace. Only thing is, grienke's social anxiety disorder and the boston media does not mix well.
You mean the same division he pitchdd his whole career in minus 1 year in Detroit? I think he'll be ok.
You could always land shelby miller which is a prrtty good pitcher. Gotta trade for him tho and boston/yanks are after him
The key to the deal is the opt out after the 3rd year. If Price pitches great for 3 years and leaves its a great deal. For everyone saying how he's making too much money, again MLB is swimming in money and contracts keep going up.
You're making it seem like he spend his whole career in the NL West. Have you seen Baltimore and the Yankees starting line ups right now? Plus Price was fine pitching against them last year. He'll be fine, he's one of the top SPers in baseball.
I dont thnk he's leaving - not many pitchers are going to opt out that late in their career - One other thing i dont like is if he's injured, boston is on the hook for the whole contract - Again, 30 mill a yr to him, plus the 20 mill a yr to the trash man, porcello, I just dont see it being smart. Great it if works out for you, but you cant win a world series with just one pitcher (well aside from MadBum) especially when that particular pitcher has an 0 - 7 4.something ERA postseason record. If they yankees spent that money on price, i'd be kind of upset. You might ask, why? and say it's not your money, why do you care. My response is I hate all the resources being allocated to one position only. 50 mill or roughly a third of your salary will be allocated to two pitchers. i forgot about Kimbrel getting like 11 a year and Koji makes 9 - thats 70 mill on 4 pitchers. That's more than the Marlins whole payroll...LOL (I know the yanks spend cash, but look how it's worked out, the dodgers, too. Seems the teams that are going home grown are the ones who are making the biggest pushes and are becoming more sustainable.) then there's Papi Hanley sandoval
22 teams have been linked to him - I saw a report yesterday that they've stopped taking phone calls, because they've told teams they'll send out their demands to each team separately and if said team is willing to giving into their demands they can have a conversation. For starters they the Yankees for Severino.
David price is never opting out btw .. No other team is going to pay him 30 million per at 34 years old lol
If Price pitches well and is healthy after the 3rd year I'd be shocked if he stayed. Grienke just opted out at his age 32 season, which would the same age as Price would be more or less. I agree with you about the spending but like I said in an earlier post, MLB contracts are going up in another 4 or 5 years players are going to be making 35 plus million a year. Imagine what Harper is going to get when he's a free agent. Trout must be kicking himself. MLB teams are making so much money now contracts are just insane and won't be coming down. Bottom line is if Price opts out its a good deal if he doesn't it will probably end up poor.
Let's see what Grienke gets for his contract this year and then factor in inflation for the next 3 years and see. Every player opts out of his contract.
Well yeah theyre going to ask for an arm and a leg. Hes under team control for 3 more years and is a relatively proven commodity with nice sabermetrics. That said I wouldnt trade Severino 1-1 for him. That kids going to be a stud.
Here comes the love!!!! I wish I had every post you had about Price dating back 3 years!!! Wooo!! Great deal if he opts out after the 3rd year, REALLY sucks if he stays all 7.....CC 2.0
I don't understand the Yanks/Miller thing ESPECIALLY because Serverino is the piece linked back..... Why would NY deal him, he IS Miller minus 4 years in age....hang up the phone Cashman....
I always loved David Price, come on now. Seriously though that comment I was responding to was just silly in thinking that Price might not be able to handle pitching in the AL East considering he's pitched 1218 of his 1441 innings while pitching for teams in the AL East. And yes if Price is still healthy and has pitched well he's going to opt out after the 3rd year. Grienke just did and the Heyman's of the world are reporting he's going to earn more per year than Price. Every player opts out of their contracts simply because they all get a better deal. The Yankees issue with CC or even Arod wasn't that he opted out, it's that they re-signed him instead of letting him walk after they got max value for him. Just look at it this way, in Price's eyes he basically signed a 3 year 93 million dollar deal with an option of an addition 4 years for $127 million. It's not at all out of the question that at age 33, again assuming he's healthy and still pitching well, he can get a better deal then 4 for $127 million, especially when you factor in the inflation of MLB contracts by then. I just don't get why people are saying there's no way he'll opt out.
I think that there's a middle ground to be had also. If Price doesn't tank, but pitches more like a #2 or #3 starter in that third year, I think that he would have a hard time getting as much on the open market as he's slated to get from Boston in years 4-7. However, it also wouldn't be like the Sox are throwing money in the fire, since he'd still be productive. Similar to Alphnoso Soriano with the Cubs. He didn't play at an All Star level the last half of his deal, and many fans flamed him for it, but he was still a very productive regular in the OF.
Good stat: in the past 12 years baseball salaries have inflated 60% while team revenues have gone up 120%.
I think it is time to end revenue sharing....the fact that NY/Bos/LAD pay for teams payroll is ridiculous.....especially in light of when you have franchises like Miami who make deliberate attempts to offload payroll to try and make a buck at the expense of competing and bringing something home for the fans...
Actually that theory is going to be put to the test very soon with Tanaka....he has an opt-out clause
I agree and disagree. I think the money given to those teams need to be monitored better. If the team doesn't put it right back into their payroll then they don't get it. That way it forces teams to continue to put money into the team instead of the owners pockets. Of course some owners don't care about winning or losing as long as they're making a profit.
Yeah Tanaka is a tough one because teams know he has an existing elbow injury that could require at least a 9 to 10 month recovery time for. That would probably scare off all teams.
I agree, good call.......must be used for payrolls or they have to be paid back or better yet create a fund where teams that want to build a new ballpark can draw a certain dollar amount out of that fund paid for by revenue sharing as not to burden the tax payers with those cost.... either that or raise the luxury tax "cap" threshold.....
There are a lot of interesting guys they got non tendered last night. I could see a team like TB or Colorado signing Pedro Alvarez or Chris Carter. Imagine either of those guys in Coors Field? I kind of want the Sox to sign Greg Holland to a 2 year deal, he's going to miss all of 2016 with TJ surgery but is an interesting power arm in 2017 if he recovers. Kind of like what the Yankees did with Andrew Bailey, even though that didn't work out for them. Also Will Middlebrooks got cut by the Padres, I still say he came out ahead by locking up Jenny Dell. I feel bad for the guy, he had a lot of promise but just suffered too much from "Jeff Francoeur Disease" aka swinging at everything.
Yep everyone focuses on the big money FA signings but 2 year deal for a team for Holland could be a gold mine in 2017.
There needs to be a salary floor as well. I mean when the New York Mets are acting like the Oakland A's there's a problem, especially when they have excellent revenue streams and did even when they were a bad team
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/...y.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook Well, it would be hard for this offseason to be going much worse for me, as a Cubs fan. Miss out on the good pitchers (and fine, if the prices were out of budget range), but then sign frickin John Lackey for 17 mil/year. I see him as just completely bombing and falling apart after the magic St Louis pixie dust is gone. I would have much, much rather they just signed no one and gone into the year with budget room to pick someone up in a trade miseason. I cannot ever remember being more upset about my team making a big free agent signing. I would have been against signing him as a long reliever for a number that those kinds of guys get, let alone this nonsense.
Eh he pitched ok in boston, even his numbers dip a little from St Louis he's still a good #3/4 type starter who will eat through innings
I think that inning eating 3/4 starter is a best case scenerio if absolutely everything goes right. That's not worth the money that they're paying him. Its a zero upside, huge risk move, and blows the chances of getting a player who will actually be around for more than two seasons.
