A punt is preferable to an INT, regardless of who is past the sticks, or what side of the field they're on, if no one is open it's never a good idea to force a pass, I have to say that those are really bad excuses for a horrible pass. The fact is, most of Tanne's INTs are bad ones, balls that should never have been thrown.
Tannehill has options not to throw those short passes, he is the one choosing to do so. The OL does have issues, but they are not the total issue. I think Tannehill takes half the sacks on his own. I see pretty much every other QB in the league avoiding some sacks; I want Tannehill too as well, that again is not on Lazor. I hope somehow some switch is turned on for Tannehill and he suddenly starts avoiding the pass rush and throwing for first down distances.
What do we mean when we say a QB carries his team on his back? See Green Bay last night. Yes, Aaron Rodgers is GOAT, but that is an example of a QB just taking the game over. This was AFTER his defense let up that first down on 3rd and 12. The defense failed him, and gave him 20-30 seconds instead of 2 minutes. But before all of that, 3 straight scores one of which he ran in when he saw an opening and everyone covered.

Oof... Philbin sure built us a quality coaching staff didn't he? Basically everyone on D hated Coyle, basically everyone on O hated Lazor, and based on the team's performance early this season, they obviously all hated Philbin too What a mess. Priority #1 right now is finding a competent, experienced coaching staff.
That's very cliche. Receivers have to first get downfield and get open. Then they have to actually hold onto the ball. There were at least 4 drops against the jets and some counted as many as 7. Tannehill has his issues, particularly with taking bad sacks, no one is denying that, but it's disingenuous to act like guys are actually wide open doing somersaults and jumping jacks 30 yards downfield with no coverage on them and he's simply refusing to throw the ball deep. Even Fouts recognized that his worst sacks are coverage variety where he's holding onto the ball too long when he should either throw it away or tuck it and run. The tuck and run is what DJ keeps clamoring for. Agree on hoping the OC change and new found freedom to do as he desires pays dividends. Personally, I don't care if he throws for 4 or 40 yards each pass attempt as long as he keeps moving the chains and helping us put up more points. Just score. Just win. YMMV.
In a league of "good ole boy" networking, he was criticized from the start over his over overly nepotistic hirings. Apart from Lazor, who was the 3rd choice or so after Ben McAdoo turned him down, everyone else was a best buddy type hiring. Kacy Rodgers was the sole exception from what I recall. Agree, hoping our next staff is all based on competence and guys with bright futures in the league.
The film (and the coaching staff) have noted multiple times Tanny opting to check down while missing an open deeper WR
Yup .... the Philbin era was marred by nepotism. It could even be argued nepotism is what got drafted Tanny too high as well, since he was Sherman's boy at TAMU.
Less so... Luck and RG3 were off the boards. The options were Tannehill or Weeden. No one was taking Wilson in the first or second round and most had a fourth round grade on him. Seattle was simply out of QB options and took the gamble. Also Ireland and our scouts had made multiple trips to watch Tannehill in college. I applauded the selection of Tannehill then and still do. It was long overdue to take a first round QB. Tannehill has probably one final season in 2016 to prove he belongs or he is toast in 2017. And who knows we could still see RG3 or Manziel as a fin.
Thats where the arthor loses credibility with this article. He includes backups who started one or two games and guys like Gabbert who has thrown less a 1/4 of the pass attempts that Tannehill has. There has to be median to filter upon. Gabbert has 95 pass attempts. Tannehill well over 400. Gabbert shouldn't even be in the list.
And I have seen many times that they show replays of no WRs open and the announcers are saying he had nowhere to go with the ball. So what? Back to you.
You guys are seeing Tannehill trying to do what Wilson is asked to do. Play off a strong running game and be efficient Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And the Ravens are getting screwed on calls. TD taken away, no call on a face mask, what looks like a bad spot on 4th down. We still can't pull ahead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tannehill: 9/19 86 yards. 1 easy TD pass to a 6'3" WR in front of the DB, towering and jumping over him after getting separation. Miller carried us. Defense carried us. How about those comparisons to Wilson? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
