the thing is my plan is supposed to include unlimited texting, 400 minutes (which I never go over), and all the data services. Yet somehow every month they charge 19 dollars for my data services. plus 8 bucks in taxing, plus instead of 79.99, they do 85 dollars as a starter (which I assumed where the taxing).

Talking with a friend that has an iphone, I know I can get a similar plan and pay just close to 90 bucks a month. It makes a substantial difference if you see how much that is in a year. Substantial enough that it makes it reasonable to just buy the new toy...

I've had my 8gig iPhone since July 2007 and it still looks factory clean. Jailbroken of course, and I love it. Never had an issue. Still not sure if / when I'm going to upgrade to 3G. I've heard too many complaints.....

A lot of the complaints are just nitpicking. If you don't need 3G, I'm not sure you need to upgrade, though. Might be best to wait it out and see what Apple does next year.

you should analyze your bill and breakdown that $19 dollars that verizon charges you on the phone with a verizon rep.

and no offense to your friend with the iphone, but i'd clarify exactly how much (including taxes) he is paying for the same service. ask him to show you his bill side-by-side with yours. i did this with my buddy's verizon smartphone, we have very similar plans (i have like 150 more minutes or something), and he pays less a month.

FYI all the taxes are required to be broken down on the bill. (if you want to get really technical, list your entire bill on here and let's go over it together  )..... so if the bill just says "$85", that is not including taxes - they have to be broken down separately. i am curious as to where that extra charge is coming from. you need to call verizon to straighten it out, and please don't assume that the iphone will be "just" what your friend says... trust me as an AT&T customer with an iphone, its not as cut-and-dried as you might think.

    food for thought.

Well, Ill def look into it, it has seemed utterly weird to me, I am just one of those people that hates dealing with bureaucrats on the phone... and so I put this kind of thing off. I just got excited with the whole iphone thing. Got me thinking it might make sense... just might.

yeah i'd hate for you to go through all the trouble to switch to only find you'd be paying the same (or worse) more for the new stuff. there's always stuff to be learned with those bills. if you really want to delve into this, you can send me a PM and i'll help you with it off the boards here.

whatever you do, good luck & do your homework.

I love my Motorola Q. It does everything I need it to do, especially with the Skyfire browser.

Glad it works for you, man. I've never liked Motorola's software, but their hardware is pretty well designed.

When signing up for the iPhone, we put the phone on my mother's AT&T account and listed myself as the primary user. This way everything comes on one bill and I just pay my part. Turns out they put her name on the caller ID for the phone, so I had to get this corrected. Called AT&T support, and when they picked up, I was greeted with the following: "Good afternoon and thank you for calling AT&T, my name is Rocky Balboa, may I have the wireless phone number you're calling about?"

Rocky Freaking Balboa works at AT&T! How the mighty have fallen.

So, I gave "Rocky" all the information needed and asked to have the name on the caller ID changed. He told me that qualified as a transfer of service, meaning they'd create a new account in my name. Well, no, that's not what I wanted. So I hung up and wondered what in the hell. Decided to call back, partially expecting Apollo Creed to answer, or maybe Indiana Jones depending on how their lunch breaks cycle. Someone named Christine picked up, I told her what I wanted, she asked her manager, and boom, caller ID name change done. Takes effect on Monday.

I have no idea what to think of AT&T now. Talk about good rep/bad rep.
