I say yes. Defense still pathetic. Undisciplined team verging on mutiny with terrible personal fouls. Too many penalties. 4-5 record. Terrible play calling. Good luck next year Dan, it's been fun. Ross better not let his loyalty burn us again.
Yes. This is still a terribly-coached team with no identity and little will to put up a fight. And in a year or two I think we're going to look back at his firing of Bill Lazor as a huge, costly mistake (not to mention the organization giving that power to an interim HC).
Yea, He says everything will change and it just stays the same. Lamar Miller is not running the ball enough.
I agree.. but just be happy Campbell was promoted and Philbin fired. At least this way we know Philbin won't be the coach next year.
I like him and all, but yeah. Still too much like Philbin even though he is a bit better. See: Miller being abandoned despite having a monster first half. Maybe in 5-10 years he can be a head coach somewhere. Not yet.
It should be under ordinary circumstances but since the jury is still out on Tannehill, I'd extend the coaching staff to not force him on another coach. Tbh this coaching staff was doomed from the beginning. I say give them and Tannehill one year to fight for their jobs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes....it's been a nice story, but we need an experienced staff here next season. Mike Shula is my personal pick.
Campbell inherited every single one of the problems listed, fired both of his main coordinators and has played patch-work with both the inherited roster and the assistants that were promoted. While I agree that Campbell is in above his head, it is EXTREMELY unfair to be critical of what he's done under the circumstances. After all, he did re-establish the run after Lazor abandoned it and we're 5-0 in games where Miller gets 13+ carries. Tannehill looked the best he has all year tonight as well with a very much improved offensive line....even though it's the same darn line. The only place we sucked tonight was at secondary and defensive line...and we're starting 3rd stringers. Very little of that falls to Campbell's past nine weeks. I agree though, the experiment is likely over come week 17, but Dan Campbell did a heck of a lot better than a lot of the coaches around the league would have. We need to give him credit where credit is due and try to keep him around in some capacity. For having zero head coaching or play-calling experience, he was pretty darn solid compared to what most expected.
I would keep Campbell. I like his mentality. It is really clear that the defense has many many holes.
Honestly I like Campbell still. Given what he had to work with and the fact that there is no way he was going to be able to hire good coordinators in the middle of a season I think he's done a pretty fair job. I think that if he had an off season to bring in the staff he would want he would do considerably better. I dont know if that makes a no brainer keeper as our head coach, I personally think he is a few years away from being a great HC candidate. I honestly don't know if it's sentimentality or what creeping in but I kind of like the Mike Shula talk as HC, but I seriously don't know who the best coaching candidate is out there now.
This team isn't better, or even more disciplined than under Philbin. Yes we had a nice little two game stretch, but outside of that, we are essentially just as bad, if not worse under Campbell than we were under Philbin. Putrid offense and putride defense. Stupid penalties. No identity on offense. Imbalanced run to pass ratio. Coming out flat at home. Everyone needs to be blown out on the coaching staff and I think they need to take Hickey with them.
I don't buy that we are worse under Campbell. You think Uncle Joe would have gone 4-5 with them thru the same stretch? No Way.
Possibly. But it doesn't matter. We probably would have beaten Houston, Tennessee and the terrible Ravens. The Eagles game would have been 50/50. I wish Philbo was still here so we could at least get a better draft pick. Campbell isn't much better and the results are pretty much identical. For a guy wanted to stamp his identity on the team, he sure did a good job re-stamping Philbin's.
I think they'll let him go but if it was me I might go another year with him. He really has a crap team to work with. I would like to see his type of players brought in before letting him go. He reminds me a bit of a young parcells
I think he might get the job and I know that will upset people but really the team has played better under his leadership. Also with the current front office, Tannehill and Suh's contracts, it might make sense to give everything one more year. With better coordinators and a better roster this is a playoff team. He should get an interview and really unless we can get a really promising young Head Coach or another great coaching prospect I don't see why he shouldn't be seriously considered. People act like you can just fire a staff and get Don Shula or Vince Lombardi to step right in. Just because we create a vacancy doesn't mean that there will be a great coach to fill it. I think if Hue Jackson or Mike Shula want this job, and they very well might, that they might be better choices but I don't know if anyone else that will be available is. I really don't get the blame game directed towards Campbell. Considering his experience and the **** sandwich he inherited he really did about all you can ask.
I agree that Cambell has improved the teams play from Philbin's work and also that maybe there has been too much to fix without the benefit of a full season and his own coaching staff in place, However, one thing Gruden said yesterday really made me think and there is a lot that this and the previous regime has failed to address. On the pass to Parker, where T-Hill scrambled out of the pocket, Gruden commented on how poor of a pattern Parker ran given the QB was scrambling. Similar comments were made on 2 other occasions regarding route running. This made me wonder if this is not being coached appropriately by Miami's staff. And if this is not being coached properly, what else is not being coached correctly. All of a sudden, T-Hill shows some ability to step up in the pocket. Is this his lack of awareness in previous game, or is this just being coached now?
coaches are not magicians....I love Dan's energy and passion...Something our previous coaches did not have...Campbell inherited a mess...I'd give him one full season to see what he can do. Our offseason is critical. We need new players on both sides of the ball.
No thanks. He showed last night he has no feel for managing his roster during the game, and for managing the game itself. He's in over his head. There's ZERO reason for Jarvis Landry to have had more targets, than Lamar Miller had carries. Especially given the way Miller was running the ball. Especially when as the head coach, you've preached you want to be more balanced, and more dedicated to the run. He's done more than enough to prove thus far, he's not the guy for the job. I'd rather not have another experiment at head coach please and thank you.
TBH, he lost me the first time he wouldn't go for it on fourth down (Cowboys?). Then the Jets, then last night. I think he'll be a good head coach, just needs more experience. The residue of Philbin still needs to be completely removed, imo. He was certainly refreshing at first...
Campbell is in over his head. It's too soon for him to be an NFL head coach; he needs some experience as a coordinator first. If Ross makes the mistake of keeping him as head coach, we can look forward to a few more losing seasons as he finds his bearing. Not to say we don't have a few losing seasons ahead either way with the lack of talent on defense and the offensive line.
I too was frustrated with him not going for it on 4th and 10 with 5 minutes left. I certainly understand his thinking on not doing it, but who honestly thought the defense would stop anyone at that point and time? I would have gone for it.
I don't think the results of this team is any indication but he isn't ready. I don't think there is a good way to evaluate him with our current results as he inherited a stinking turd and you can't turn that around in one year. I do think he has some potential but think we need someone with experience at this point.
The big reason I wouldn't want Dan back as HC is because he would probably be willing to accept too much that he didn't want just to keep the job, I want a HC that will tell the higher ups exactly what he wants or doesn't want.
I'm not so sure that he would. Ross is absolutely in love with the guy (seriously, major man-crush) and I think Campbell can pretty much name his terms if he gets the job. But I do think that would require us going 3-0 to close out the season, plus more improvements from Tannehill and the offense. It helps that we finish the year against NE at home...that game will mean a lot more to Campbell than it does to us. And honestly, if I were Bellicheat....I would bench my starters, let the Fins win, and help Campbell stay in the driver's seat for 2016. I can see that evil genius using that kind of logic.
