wow. parmele is not a suprise.... he's not as good as Cobbs IMO and will be buried behind him on the depth chart. honestly cobbs is the complete package, AND good on ST. if Parmele beats out Cobbs on the depth chart i'd be surprised. NOT surprised at Wilford... the guy has been the worst acquisition for us this offseason. I haven't heard a SINGLE good thing at camp. I'm surprised people aren't blaming the poor performance on him on a bias by Omar or something.
I do agree with about Patrick Cobbs he is a good talent. But I dont think Patrick Cobbs will be ahead Jordan Parmele. It i just the beging of trianing camp so Jordan Parmele has time to improve in the catching game. For Ernest Wilford I really dont think he will keep going through his struggles. But I would not mind keeping Derek Hagan with first team . It sure seems like he has improved a lot. If he can transfer his talent to the regular season he could be a lot of help for us this season.
Parmele is a good talent. Hits the whole hard, has a nice blend of strength and speed. He'll make the roster over Cobbs because he was a draft pick this year. Wilford ran a seam route and beat a DB for a touchdown. In one of Ozzy's reports, I asked him about how Wilford looked. Ozzy said he hasn't look as bad as they said. He did beat the DB for a touchdown. Honestly, even if he has struggled, I'm not worried about Wilford. Once TC and preseason are through, I think he'll be back with the first team. Looks like they have made the change. Langford officially starting. Don't know how long this lasts but its possible hes the starter on opening day.
does that make roth one of the "odd man outs'? i really don't seee him sticking at a lb spot as we have so many that are talented already and with the news of holliday being moved around i just don't see where he fits in. glad to hear langford moving up. admittanly i was a little skeptical of the pick at first mostly because i knew nothing about him but he has done a great job so far.
there's a lot of blind optimism about wilford though, and a lot of ill-deserved confidence in him on this board.
Yea I dont think Ernest Wilford we keep struggling he should be ok and will improve with his profomance after the first preseason game.
I am happy to hear about Langford I think he was a steal when we drafted him. I cant wait to see him in the first preseason game. If he keeps preforming like he is I think he will be our starter on opening day and he will be a good talent for us this season.
He could possibly be out. Last time he played 'backer was at Iowa I think. Yeah, some thought we took him earlier than we should have.
Its still early to make a definitive asessment on Parmele but if he cant catch we might as well have kept Chatman and not waste a pick in the process.
We might as well have kept Lorenzo Booker too, we knew he could catch. Oh well, Parmele is a fin so I'm pulling for him to get better and contribute.
That's a pretty harsh assessment. In fact, its outright ridiculous. Parmele is a rookie and will likely have his struggles as a reciever and blocker till he gets some experience. Chatmans had 5 years to work on those things (even though he didnt really cuz he was out of football for awhile.) Parmele may have more upside as a runner. He could potentially be a #1 back one day where as Chatman has probably hit his ceiling. I'm not saying its likely but there's at least a chance, albeit a small one. Parmele will also be on a rookie contract and cheaper. Besides, we've heard nothing but good things on Jalen and now that he drops a pass in the scrimmage, the sky is falling. Has he really been struggling all camp or was this just 1 glaring mistake? Edit*** Wasn't Chatman a FA anyway? I don't think we cut him but could be wrong. Editx2*** We had Ronnie, Ricky, Cobbs and Booker all under contract so resigning Chatman wouldn't have really made sense. The Booker trade opened up a spot for another back, hence drafting 1... well, 2....
i see where you're going with this, but in this case i think you're fighting a war with no army behind you. parmele has been dropping most of the passes his way, it wasn't just one. also the chatman argument was a good one brought up b/c chatman cost us little and as you said, was a proven vet who we KNOW can do the job. yes parmele is a rookie and has a higher ceiling, but we cut a guy who was performing just fine for the cheap. i don't understand a lot of the RB moves this offseason. getting rid of Booker was a real head-scratcher, not keeping Chatman, and drafting Hilliard was another one. i just didn't get any of those.
Hopefully Parmele can pick it up on his receiving skills, I like him as a runner so far. Nice to hear about Langford getting some time with the starters. I wasnt sure of him when we picked him in the draft, because I didn't know much about him, but so far Im pretty happy with the pick.
I used to think that about Matt Roth as well, but you don't put as much time into a player just to cut him, I think he sticks in some sort of "rover/pass rushing" role. In a pinch, he could be our backup MLB and OLB as well.
Thats probably the reason, atleast I would guess, as to why he wasn't kept around. The FO has put a premium on players who can play ST
I've been very excited about the development of Derek Hagan. I'm very excited about him. I still am very worried about the Q.B. situation.
I've been reading pretty much all of the camp reports from all sources and Parele's hands of stone didn't seem to be mentioned at all prior to the scrimmage, but now its a big issue. Everything had been positive until the last few days. I was just wondering from anyone who's been there if he really has been struggling all along or if its a recent development.
Chatman and Booker would have been our 3rd and 4th rb and neither were ST players. I would say that is a big part of them going and us bringing in 2 new guys to compete for the #3 spot along w/ Cobbs. I agree that ST is a much bigger priority now than it was last year.
Yeah, I hear ya about Wilford, but say what you want, he has game experience whereas Ginn, Bess, Foster, even Hagan don't....Ginn and Hagan have some experience, but not like Wilford... That said, from the media and camp reports we've gotten...he has some catching up to do.... On the other side of this, perhaps the light has finally come on for Hagan and that could explain why Hagan is getting the nod over Wilford, more so than Wilford losing anything...Don't know for sure, we'll see soon I hope...
At 1-15 we have a lot of these threads where our new picks/players are under a much more skeptical microscope than they normally would. It's human nature, but I'm more optimistic for IMPROVEMENT this TC than I've actually been in 7 years. Let the kid drop a few now, gives the coaches a heads up on the need to give him more coaching in this area of his game. All this negativity is a very good thing IMHO. Last year at this time I was SURE we were going to have a great year, Cam was going to turn around the O and we already had a good D, or so many of us thought. Then we didn't look too bad in preseason games, and POW: we went 1-15. I like this trend of stressing failure and putting the team under huge pressure in TC, so when regular season comes around, maybe we start winning some games!
Like Sparano said "make it as difficult for them as you can in training camp" that way when game time comes, they will be used to difficult situations and perhaps, it won't be difficult at all.
To be honest with you, I never understood picking him. We don't need him at FB since we have Grigsby and Mauia. We also didn't need him at RB since we selected Jalen Parmele. Maybe someone can explain it to me who does understand it.
