According to CBSSPORTS.com's Jason La Canfora. Some strong Head Coach Candidates that the Dolphins are interested in are Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz. Really, so the only candidates that the Dolphins are interested in are failed head coaches( Besides Payton) that should really only be coordinators. And a O-coordinator in Gase who may have just been riding Peyton Manning his whole career. If they hire any of these guys besides maybe Sean Payton, that should tell you that the front office doesn't really care about winning Super Bowls. Anyway, what are ya'lls thoughts?
Its a story by La Canfora, which means I'd believe aliens will land in my backyard, kidnap me, teleport me to Hollywood where Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansen are waiting for me to start the threesome, after which Warren Buffett decides to split his fortune with me after which I'm named World Pharaoh, before I believe anything that bucket of **** wrapped in lies puts out there. La Confra is full of crap is what I'm sayin'.
rather underwhelming list. payton sounds good but how many picks will we have to give up for him, which would hold back or massive rebuilding project? would he even be interested in coaching our team?
I read that article. It was all his own opinion. No inside sources. No rumblings. Just guys he thought Miami would target. God I hope not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Man Schwartz was a disaster in Detroit, hell no no no. Gase is intriguing but what makes him anything but a hot OC? Haley ... I didn't like him in KC. Payton - I like him the most and if he is released by the Saints I would jump. But, not for a draft pick. Interesting that he did not list Shula. He is not my favorite but there is a logical connection.
He would be on the top of my list. He's working magic with Andy Dalton at QB for crying out loud. This is why the Dolphins franchise are the forever morons. Sean Payton shouldn't even be considered in any universe, unless Dolphins fans are itching to suck worse than the Aints... foorever That's good that it's not official but eventually it probably will be. It would be the Miami Dolphin thing to do to hire a Payton or Shwartz.
In WHICH universe does Payton sound "good?" He's 12-18 in the last two seasons. The Saints have 1 more win than us? You Payton guys are smoking better stuff than me.
I wouldn't read too much into any mention of Adam Gase or Todd Haley. They're going to get mentioned in connection with A LOT of teams. To be honest, both will probably get opportunities in the future to take over as HC somewhere. It's just a matter of time. Gase's name has popularity at the moment and at 37 he's a rising star. Haley is the right age AND he has experience as both a coordinator and a head coach. Owners are conservative by nature. Many like to avoid risk as much as possible. They like it immensely when someone has had experience in a certain position, regardless of what the record was. It gives them a baseline for what a "worst case" might look like. I don't necessarily think Miami is really that interested in either of those guys. I don't see any obvious reasons Miami would go after them. I don't see a way to connect them to Tannenbaum or Miami as with other coaches like Hue Jackson and Mike Shula. Sean Payton will definitely get some interest inside Miami's front office. For one, Payton is apart of the Parcells coaching tree. Ross will love that. I think Ross is a risk-averse owner in the sense that he very much wants to hire a HC he feels "has the answers." Payton has shown that he's a very competent play-caller. His having won a Super Bowl is a big factor. The fact he helped turn Drew Brees into an elite QB who has at times been virtually unstoppable is a huge selling point as well because I think Ross wants to see Miami feature an explosive offense. Hue Jackson would be great although I have to admit that I wish Vic Fangio got more talk. The lack of talk about Fangio may indicate he's either not as qualified as we think or that he's just not interested in becoming a HC. After all, Fangio has always been a defensive coach to my knowledge. As far as Jim Schwartz, I think there's more interest in him as a DC at this point than as a HC. It's no secret that Schwartz has proven himself one of the more appealing DC candidates on the market. He's probably the #1 guy in that capacity right now. Miami would be downright dumb not to be listing him as a major candidate. People only forget he's out there because he's not actually coaching right now. Ronin was kind enough to dive more into the X's and O's in a lengthy write-up he recently put together in the club forum (A GREAT READ!!!), but that only helps prove what we already know which is that Schwartz would be a very exciting coach for Miami to bring in on the defensive side. The problem with Schwartz is that he looks so solid as a DC he might garner interest as a HC. He was after all able to turn the Lions around over the short-term. His 4th and 5th seasons were the let-down years (plus his winning percentage in December was abysmal) but over the first three years he took the Lions from bad to pretty good. If Haley is worthy of another shot, I definitely think Schwartz is. The simple fact is there aren't a ton of names out there right now that don't involve some major risk. There really is no perfect candidate, only solid ones. I think I speak for many people when I say that the best case scenario right now seems like Hue Jackson as HC and Jim Schwartz as DC.
He also went 13-3, won the Super Bowl, helped make Drew Brees unstoppable and is still relatively young. It's not complicated to see why he's going to walk into another head coaching job if New Orleans lets him go.
personally i want a failed head coach. the thinking is he's had time to reflect on what went wrong the first time and he's learned from his mistakes. (belichik, don shula). additionally i want someone who has coached for several coaches as coach, coordinator and position coach. i want him to be able to adjust and you need to know several schemes to do that. This way you aren't tied to forcing your personnel into your scheme. you can tailor your scheme around your personnel. I want todd haley. when in kc, the guy had matt cassell and no receivers. it was just a running game and a 3-4 defense and he got them to a wild card. here he would have a qb, wrs and rbs and would just need to fix the oline. kc had a pretty good oline under him. we can see what he can do when he has a qb like in pittsburgh and arizona. has he learned from his mistakes. that would be what i would be trying to find out in the interview process. if i felt he learned from it he would be my number one choice. I would be fine with schwartz or payton too but under no circumstances would i give up a draft pick to get him and i have some concerns about him being able to build a defense
If he walks into the Fins coaching job I'll shove an ice pick through my brain. You got it backwards, Drew Brees made him (a name.)
Not sure what the hype is on Hue, the Bengals' scouting department deserves a ton more credit than Hue does for the way that offense operates. 3 very good receivers, a top tight end, two starting caliber running backs, a damn good quarterback, and a very solid offensive line. What do you think Hue would have done with this pile of crap we have on our offensive roster? Nothing. I'd still interview him anyways because with Ross we never get our first target.. we usually get our 4th to 6th target. Philbin wasn't our first choice (Harbaugh and Fisher were in front of him), Hickey was like the 8th choice.. Once again the top candidates will ask for some say about the quarterback situation and football operations and we're going to say no. Just wait for it.. we'll end up with Schwartz or Spagnuolo or some other lame candidate. The first target should be Mike Shula in my opinion. been talking him up since Week 6 and ever since he's been getting better and stronger week by week
It's Sean Payton or bust for me really, he's the best offensive mind in football , just get it done Ross, you've failed time and time again to hire the most coveted coaches, no excuses this time.
Let's see the man has always had an offensive line, a scheme with plug and play next man up running backs, the ability to win with average QBs, actually wanted Tannehill in the draft, and is gritty enough to clash with Ross. Please tell me which part would be the worst for you?
The worst is probably over dramatic. More wouldn't want that because of Kyle Shanahan more than anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kyle is in Atlanta now. Him and Dad ain't a package deal. I agree I don't want Kyle but Mike's track record should be welcomed in Davie.
I wouldn't doubt him being let go from ATL after this season. And if Mike got another gig, I'd bet Kyle would be right by his side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Blank and Dimitroff wait too long to make a change like Ross and Co. Kyle will stay put with Quinn. If Quinn cans him after one season, he will cut his own throat. No one of any calibre would ever work with him.
I'd be in favor of that, IF he shows he still wants to do this even though he'd be starting over. He's in his 70's after all.
Peyton Manning to the Dolphins is pretty much a done deal, only thing left is to cross the T`s and dot the I`s".....- La Canfora
I already said in another thread I think the ideal coaching staff would be Sean Payton as HC and Jim Schwartz as DC
Hope you're wrong and that Ross and the rest of the front office has learned its lessons from past mistakes, but unless Jerry Jones is hanging it up on Jason Garrett, I don't think it's going to happen. Dallas's offense is soley dependent on Romo, much like Indy's was on Manning.
Jerry is no stranger to going big and if Payton is available I cannot see him anywhere but in Texas. Unfortunately I don't see Ross being any smarter when it comes to football anytime soon.
LOL, you know I could say right back at you, but I'll just enjoy that humor, cuz it was funny, let it not be said that you have no sense of humor.
Mike Shanahan and his scheme fits the existing talent like glove. Not a complete rebuild, not a simple tweaking either.
Well I don't know much about Xs and Os, but here is what I would like to see and I will allow the other members of this forum who know more than me weigh in on whether it would make sense or not: Head Coach: Mike Shula Offensive Coordinator: Ken Dorsey Defensive Coordinator: Jim Schwartz I think Shula is ready for a HC position and may not require too much control as tannenbaum seems like he doesn't want to give too much of it up. Jim Schwartz has been discussed enough (we are aware of the + and the -). The one wildcard is Ken Dorsey. I know he will be a fan favorite down here and I hear is doing some good things in Carolina with Newton (not sure if that is all Newton or if he factors in at all to their success). But the question is: is he ready for an OC position?
Sean Payton will be the highest paid head coach in the NFL when his contract renews. He just built a house in New Orleans and his son is close by. Don't hold your breath. The reason these potential Head Coaches are on the list is because they would most likly be willing to lay it all on the line to get a HC position, ignoring how bad this team is and how many holes we have to fill. Don't be surprised when Eric Mangini's name surfaces
