This was the list coming into today's games, and Ryan has now passed Luck and Palmer moving into third on the list. I was a bit surprised that they didn't mention it during the game, since both player's teams were going head to head and its a very interesting stat. RT now has an almost 300 yard lead on Luck, so even if Luck were to play in Week 17, Ryan likely has 3rd on the list locked up now. Cool that numbers 2 and 3 on the list are both Dolphins.

Honestly, I think it would be a mistake for this front office to get rid of him. He isn't perfect, but he has put up good numbers in spite of the sorry teams he has had around him. If we can get some competent coaching and an O-Line, I would feel comfortable running him out there any week.

He's also third on the list of "who's been sacked the most" during the same time period. And despite today's game, it would take a meltdown impressive even by our OLs standards to move up on that one :shifty:

I ignore Cash, because of comments like that one, but look at a few other "losers" team records during their first four seasons:

    Peyton Manning: 32-32
    Carson Palmer: 32-29
    Cam Newton: 30-31-1
    Jim Kelly: 28-29
    Warren Moon: 19-38
    Boomer Esiason: 23-23
    Sam Bradford: 18-30-1
    Troy Aikman: 27-27

Those guys all sucked and went on to accomplish absolutely nothing.

I wouldn't put the cart before the horse...I can google crappy records of crappy QBs and post it with a great big "HA" and not look any less sillier.

Jury is out, but its not looking good. He will be our QB going forward, but still with a lot to prove.

The constant manner his offensive line let's him down is part of the reason why I watch the games...

THill has been productive for us, especially if you look at both his OL and Wr corps, now one place where these stats are not telling the whole story is where the D has given up 4th qtr leads, forcing him to throw more.

To me, he is becoming something of Archie Manning

I just threw Bradford in there as a contemporary. He's also someone who, even Philly doesn't resign him, will be in demand make money as a free agent this offseason. Ryan would too if he were to be let go.

More a product of high volume, lots of attempts (unusually high). He's done this rather inefficiently. Health pending, more and more qbs of this era will join this group as the years go.

Staying healthy and getting back up after the hits are something to be admired. He also has one of the lowest interception percentages of any of the players in the top 40 on the list as well. 3rd most passing attempts, but the 36th most picks thrown.

Taking hits is fine, but it doesn't mean you're a good qb.

He's behind the others here in ypa and TD rate, despite playing in an era that's friendlier to passers. Both those categories are more important than total yards.

Then again, finally got some good talent on the Wr corps

Real THill problem is, 3 downs, inside the 5 yd line, Td to win..was not even close to that happening

Easy to blame Douglas, if that were an Elite Qb, or a good one, chances are good that Td happens before down #4

No he didn't. CIF wasn't basing his opinion on Ryans career win/loss record, he is basing it on that HE doesn't believe he see's anything more than an average QB. That may not be what people want to hear, but he is no wronger in that belief in anyone else is in their's.

It's just more information. It doesn't invalidate; it's just more facts to consider.

If Tannehill had the # of attempts that Luck or Palmer had...he would not be on this list. It's that simple. He does not do as much on a per-pass basis as these other QBs. The sheer number of throws he's tried is a very big reason he's in this top 5.

And that's to say nothing about points. Palmer threw a TD on every 19.6 attempts. Tannehill at every 25.6. Efficiency matters.

You can't argue that the volume is not significant?? This whole new era of BS rule changes to enhance the game has watered down numerous stats. That goes way beyond Ryan too, Marino's records are falling further and further by guys who couldn't lick his taint.

Damm look at dans y/a 7.89 in an era when you could play defence. He was so good that is why its hard for me to see tannehill in anyway near the same light.I am a spoiled fan that longs to see greatness once again but will probally will not happen again in my lifetime.

He seems to feel like a franchise QB should be doing more to win games ecspecially in clutch situations (3rd down 4th qtr)....do I agree with how harsh he is on Tanny in general? No. But at this point he doesn't sound any less reasonable than "a former scout" who came in these threads this summer telling us we had a top 6 QB in the NFL.

Both are examples of ridiculous extremes, but who knows who is truly closer to being correct?

Yea, I think this is a good point because a lot of Dolphins fans (like CIF) judge a great QB in comparison to Marino. Which is A.) Not really fair to Ryan or anyone we draft afterwards. B.) A pipe dream, Dan Marino's ability will not be replicated very often...and we aren't a lucky enough franchise to find him.

It seems odd to me, the Dolphins drafted Tannehill, knowing he was a raw prospect who needed developing, and then they saddled him with a terrible oline for four seasons, bad receivers for most of his career, and a coaching staff that didn't do him any favors as far as scheme goes.

Then four years in, fans everywhere are complaining about Tannehill.

Its kind of like buying a fixer upper house that may need some new floors put in and maybe some wallpaper a little touch up here and there and its ready to be the home of your dreams, only you hire the three stooges to do the repairs, then after letting them loose on the house for a couple of years you start *****ing that the house sucks and was never worth it, in reality if you had good workers the house would have turned into that dream house.

Really its Jeff Ireland and Joe Phiblins fault...and in a way Jon Martin's for being a mentally unstable chick. That had the makings of a solid OL with Incognito playing G at a high level. Many laughable factors have lead to us being a lost franchise who once again will be starting from scratch.

I simply pointed out something worthwhile statistically. Others ran with it. I do, however, feel that for those who insist on talking about RT and the team's won/loss record, its worth noting that a lot of great QBs were around .500 or worse during their first four years in the NFL, and that some of them had much better players around them than Tannehill has.

Heck, even if you throw out the Cowboys 1-15 during his rookie season, Troy Aikman's record as a starter in 1990-91 was only 14-13, and he had Emmit Smith, Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek, Daryl Johnston, Nate Newton, Mark Stepnowski & Mark Tuinei on offense with him! Not to mention the 10th and 17th ranked defenses those years, and a coaching staff who knew what the Hell they were doing.

I'm just saying that there's a big picture to look at, and the never ending blaming of one player who's leaving his guts out on the field every week doesn't make much sense.

Like Ryan Tannehill. The Dunkin dunk will do that for you.

Now take a look at the touchdowns Marino put up compared to what Ryan has. Marino had 60 plus more TDs. that translates into points folks and points equals winning

One side is right, the other is wrong. Should tannehill ever get a competent offensive line, the matter will be decided and proved, once and for all

Marino was a first ballot HOFer. One of the greatest to ever play the game. Most franchises have never had a player of his calibre at QB. There can be a middle ground between him and someone who you throw on the junk heap. If "as good as Dan Marino" is your standard, you'll never be content.
