Why would you just look at this year? Look at this CAREER. He's been sacked at a similar average % of dropbacks as Tannehill. Actually I think it's worse. And he has amazing scrambling ability so you'd assume his sack % could be much higher

For one, I didn't bring him up, as I don't think it's fair to compare Tannehill to the best QB in the game. That being said, I look at this year, and the drop off the best QB in the game can have when his oline sucks. Then I wonder, why people are complaining about Tannehill, in his fourth year, with a team in total turmoil, and acting like he somehow should have singlehandedly won games.

    It's kind of silly.

That's the problem. In order to normalize the playing field you are forced to shrink the sample size of the superior player to argue, "see! Seee!!!?????"

Crazy. So, the best of the best struggling for one season is meaningless to you? Given that Tannehill is not Rodgers, then we should expect him to struggle more than Rodgers, correct?

Losing your 1,500 yard receiver, exposing your slot receiver, while a 2nd year WR in Davante Adams sucks, and James Jones wasn't even resigned last year in Oakland and was cut from the Giants this year.

Meanwhile his crappy, struggling year is still a 30/7 type of year. Losing Jordy Nelson had more to do with his struggles than anything else. From 2008 and 2012 he was harassed as much as anyone, if not more than anyone. QBs occasionally have to deal with crappy olines. The best ones do. Welcome to the NFl we're not going to have good olines for his entire career.

Funny you mention Archie, because that's EXACTLY who I think about.

Difference between he and Tannehill is Archie was pretty universally loved by the saints fanbase.

Tannehill SHOULD be an easy guy to root for; came from some humble beginnings, not a big time recruit or storied college career, busts his ***, never misses a down and yet...we hate him for the most part.

Why? Because he just isn't good enough? No, there's more to it than that. Lots of guys just aren't good enough. With Tannehill it's a raging debate. One day I'll figure out why. (Maybe)

I have no idea why it is assumed that those of us who are not enamored with Tannehill, are said to hate him.

Personally I admire him for being one tough SOB. My problem with him is that I don't think he is or ever will be anything more than a very mediocre NFL QB. Yes he is better than any QB the Dolphins have had since Marino, except for the one year they had a healthy Pennington. I place him third behind these two QB's and only slightly ahead of Fiedler.

I just don't see him as a QB who has football smarts, even though he appears to be extremely intelligent off the field. I think his teammates respect him for being tough, but I question if they believe in him as their QB.

Next year he will have another head coach and a new OC. So perhaps with a new mentor he will prove to all us doubters that he can be the QB we hoped he would be when they drafted him. Right now through, to me he is still a huge question mark heading into his fifth season in the NFL next year and 2016 should and will be his make or break year, with a new regime taking over after this season.

It isn't about hating anyone. It is entirely about wanting a QB who you believe is good enough to one day lead this team to a SB win. I just continue to question if Tannehill is this QB and so far my answer after the last four years is, no he is not.

That's all fair and I agree with most of it.

Hate might be a strong word, I agree most don't mean it in the literal sense, though it's hard to scroll through twitter on game days and not see a visceral reaction.

Point is, based on recent dolphins QB play post Marino, you'd think we'd cut a guy like him more slack. I've got no problem demanding success - we should as fans - but Tannehill seems to be a small part of a larger problem. A problem that remains whether he's personally successful or not.

Those are volume stats, though, right, since he's thrown as much as Tannehill? And, he's been throwing short.

I meant yesterday when they got pummeled 38-8. They still had Rodgers but the line couldn't protect him and he sucked. Sound familiar?

I root for the guy. Elite type talent, seems to be a great guy, nothing is handed to him, and hes tough as nails. I expect him back next year and I want him to badly to succeed. But its okay for us who don't see it or doubt we will, to voice our opinion now, even though we still root for him.

Dude, if elite QBs get pummeled in games sometimes, and its a result of poor oline play, how much more is that magnified in a QB who was/is still developing?

Keep mocking the "one game" thing, but on the season, Rodgers has a sub 7 ypa, I think the lowest in his starting career, and has numbers that others mock Tannehill for because they are "volume stats."

Mentioning Rodgers is a fricking joke. But since you want to go there...

Yes, Rodgers is having a down year for his standard. His low YPA is screwed due to 1st down passing incredibly low. His offensive line is awful and he would dream to have Tannehills weapons this year. But he also has his team positioned for the playoffs, and do you know why? Because he gets it done when it matters..

    3rd down
Tannehill 74 Passer rating 3 rushing yards
Rodgers 88 Rating 154 rushing yards

    3rd and 10+ yards
    Tannehill 72.5 Rating 6.7 YPA
    Rodgers 94.2 Rating 8.9 YPA

    Tie Ball Game
    Tannehill 3 TD 2 INTs 80 Rating
    Rodgers 8 TDs 0 INTs 111 Rating

    Trailing
    Tannehill 14 TDs 9 INTs 84 Rating
    Rodgers 13 TDs 4 INTs 93 Rating

    4th Quarter
    Tannehill 81.8 Rating
    Rodgers 94.0 Rating

So please stop it. This is our argument. He doesn't get it done when its most important. Rodgers bad OL, terrible weapons, and hes having a down year in his standards, but hes still playing very well when it matters. Because great QBs elevate when its time to lift the team to a win. By the way, their #19th in total defense...

    You missed the point.

He said if an all time great QB like Rodgers can be effected this badly by things like a bad line, wouldn't those things effect a lesser QB who is still developing, even more?

    I. Didn't. Bring. Rodgers. Into. This.

I've already stated, comparing Tannehill to the best in the game is stupid. Apparently you're expecting Tannehill in his fourth year to play like Rodgers. The point is, that Rodgers suffers when he lacks protection, weapons, etc. Not as much as Tannehill, but, again, Tannehill is only in his fourth year, and had struggled against these hindrances every single year.

That's the point. No one is trying to compare Tannehill to Rodgers. The point is being made that if the greatest can have off games, even seasons, then why are people expecting a developing QB to handle it as well? These aren't new arguments. These are the same arguments since Tannehill was drafted. So, from season one, people have been complaining that Tannehill doesn't handle pressure like the games best. He doesn't elevate bad receivers like the games best. So what?

Okay. I can agree with that point. But this is Tannehills 4th full year starting. It's not longer developing. It's put up or shut up. And he simply didn't put up. I give him next year too, mostly because of his contract, but the developing tag is tired. This is the NFL. We can't be developing QBs for 5 years.

How is it no longer developing? Are you actually saying you believe the coaching staff around him developed him? Are you saying he properly developed behind this oline?

Now, if you want to argue that he's been stunted so badly that he won't develop, that is a different argument.

Dude, normal QBs, with four full years college experience, generally get at least 3 years to properly develop. Tannehill was a raw prospect, that was going to take more time.

    So yes, only four years.

Guys are always getting better in the NFL. We going to be year 10 with him still developing?

It's time to do and stop "developing to do". 4 full seasons is a lot. You want to kick aside Dallas Thomas and billy turner after 1 & 2 years in the league but Tannehill gets 5 full season, with a very good supporting cast before we can decide?

The other thing, all of this died down a ton last year, because you guys had nothing to grasp on. Tannehill had progressed nicely, despite his ****ty surroundings, for three. Now, he has basically the same season as last year, but the team isn't successful, because contrary to preseason belief, the tan is actually bad, and now the hyenas are out hunting for Tannehill again.

Ok man, it's general knowledge. People aren't judging QBs in under three seasons, as a general rule. You know, QBs that are four year starters in college, as most NFL QBs are.

But I guess act like that isn't the case, if it makes you feel better.

His surroundings on the offensive side were worse last year, that's why you didn't hear as much. That and he certainly flashed at times. But it was once again another year of him failing to come through during most important times. Year 4 comes and people are sick of it. God forbid fans actually give him time. 4 years is not too soon.

I'm not saying it's not too soon. My issue, is that I think the coaches and management bear a ton of blame for the situation we're in as fans, and that Tannehill is in. I do believe his growth has been stunted, and I think most of it stems from the oline issues. I think that the oline issues would be a problem with almost any young QB back there.

I just find the animosity and vitriol aimed at Tannehill to be unwarranted.

This is Taylor's first year starting so no.

Sanchez went to the AFC championship first two seasons in the NFL. Of course he got more time. And he wasn't a 4 year player. He was a 1 year starter in college if I remember right.

Bradford? Was a 2 year starter in college. Only had 3 years worth of starts in the NFL before his first team moved on from him.

Fitzpatrick? Seriously? He's a journey man QB? He's not even close to what you proclaimed.

These are guys who weren't punted from the league before three years are up. It's generally accepted that a QB gets three years. It's been talked about a ton on here by guys like Boomer and Ck, if I remember correctly.

Quite simply, the head coach and the quarterback are the easiest targets for fan criticism when the team isn't any good. It's the easy way out. It is plain to see that our coaching has been a serious problem. Its funny to hear the Tannehill bashers stay that stats are meaningless when you bring up the good things he has done, yet when we look at players in free agency or in the draft to evaluate them what do they use?

    I just don't understand this.

You say you agree that an oline this bad could hurt him worse than it hurts Rodgers, but then disregard that entirely and act like he should be producing more with a horrible oline for 4 years straight.

You are essentially saying, "yes, our oline is a huge detriment, and it is really handcuffs Thill....but so what? He still sucks."
