Feels good to have this much positivity about Miami football again. We still have to see the results on the field, but it's nice to see that they got their guy and arguably the best guy on the board.

I'm more excited about Richt being the playcaller and involved with the offense than anything else.

I think the elite coaches are competing for BCS titles, not just conference titles. The point I was trying to make, you made yourself:

Richt is a good bridge. He'll get UM to a perrenial ACC contender, and consistently among the top-15 in the nation.

Ultimately someone like Chip Kelly was not in the cards for Miami this time. He costs more than the admin is willing to pay for a football coach right now. I hope that in a few years, after Miami turns things around, the admin is more open to going after someone like Kelly.

Best coach UM has had since ____? At the least Butch Davis, maybe since JJ.

Your attempt at making that point was unnecessary. Who exactly here is talking about championships? This isn't the 2010 NBA free agent thread. Richt is not being treated like LeBron. UM took a major step towards competence. Why exactly do you feel the need to moderate a thread that's already moderate?

Mark Richt just got a $1 million raise. He's reportedly making $4m a year at UM. He was making $3m a year at Georgia. So UM is already paying SEC level money for a head coach. Richt is now being paid more than Gus Malzahn and Jim McElwain, roughly equivalent to Steve Spurrier, and almost as much as Les Miles. In the ACC! So you can drop the narrative about UM needing to pay more money. They just did.

Probably JJ. The hire is very unique. You don't see many coaches jump teams after spending time at a school the way Richt did. Mack Brown is the only one that comes to mind.

Richt is a fine hire. Best winning percentage at UGA of the past 90 years in an SEC conference that might be at its most competitive point. If ESPN weren't so preoccupied with hyping their beloved $EC darling child ad nauseam, beginning with inflating the SEC's recruiting rankings each year in order to boost perceived value of the conference which leads to preseason polls habitually gifting 8 SEC teams into the Top 25, Richt might still have his job. Same thing is happening to Les Miles. ESPN and the rest of the media responsible for undeservingly placing the SEC on a pedestal have created an expectation level that's virtually impossible to meet.

Robert Smith hates the :theu: . Several years ago (way before the Ponzi scheme incident) I was watching him and the other analysts on ESPN, and when they started talking about Miami, he said, "it's been proven that they've put together the best teams that money can buy." The other guys looked at him for a second with a "You really want to go there?" expression on their faces, and he just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Hey, it is what it is," and they changed the subject. What a tool.

Richt just hired Mizzou's former DL coach who apparently had a great track record at Mizzou. Huge hire.

Kevin Beard is not expected to be retained either. Really hope this is it for Kehoe too. Gotta get somebody fresh coaching this young o-line.

Kehoe was always a CYA hire by Golden to ingratiate himself with the fanbase. It's just not working.

Hurlie Brown and Kevin Beard gone. The only 2 coaches I liked.

Latest rumors include Dave Aranda (Wisconsin DC) as DC and Corey Raymond (LSU DB Coach) as DB coach. Both are among the best in CFB at their positions. Both would be homerun hires.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much but if we hired an elite coach like Kool, then maybe this school actually is serious about football for once, and we're about to unleash the savagery again.

Happy we got Richt but I would of really loved to grab Tom Herman. Somebody is going to get a homerun hire in him. Shocked that Texas hasn't ****canned Strong yet and done everything humanly possible to get him.

Super aggressive 4-3. Has been pretty decent everywhere except one year at Texas. I think his defense will work here. Certainly not my top choice but I'm not mad about it. Apparently Miami offered Arranda $1 million to be the DC. That would of been a home run but hard to outbid LSU.

Stacy Coley coming back for his senior year. It's the right decision for him, and HUGE for Miami. If he can stay healthy, with better coaching, and with a seasoned Kaaya, he could be a star this year.

We're rolling at the end of the season, so far. On top of the ACC with Notre Dame and VT left in the regular season. I like what Coach Larranaga told Senior Angel Rodriguez in the last quarter of that game against Louisville, the first time we've beaten them since 1963, btw: "You need to show everybody in this arena how hard you're willing to play to win this game." :theu:
