My coaches: HC Mike Shula and DC Chuck Pagano. These guys would choose their own staff. The GM is going to be a puppet so...whatever. Pagano would run a base 3-4 defense.

The Salary Cap projection to be used will be the high estimate of 158 million because it always seems to be the high estimate. The NFL has enormous amounts of money coming in and the players have a strong union.

Cuts and trades: What players have trade value? Tannehill? Pouncey? Grimes? Misi? Mitchell? Tannehill was highly thought of last year but this year has been abysmal. Doubt the team could get enough compensation to be worth the dead money.
Seeing as how I see a great need to completely revamp this OL I would indeed trade the perenial pro bowler Mike Pouncey. Pouncey is obviously a talented guy but as a leader I think he is worthless, and he IS the de facto leader of this abomination. I firmly believe that it would really benefit the team to trade him. 4 mil dead but we do clear 6 mil as well. His value? Probably a mid to late first but if the Rams offered both of their mid 2nd round picks I would do the deal and even send them Walt Aikens and a 7th. Don't sneer at Walt Aikens, he was possibly our best ST's player this year, as far as coverage.

Grimes is going to go somewhere. Where can you take baggage like Miko? Look, I too believe that Grimes has lost a step but I don't think he is as bad as some of us made out this year. 18 passes defensed and 4 interceptions is nothing to sneeze at.I think he would fit right in with the Raiders, and Raiders fans might even like Miko.
Raiders have a ridiculous amount of cap space, probably over 70 mil when they are done with cuts. If they like Grimes they would have no problem signing him to a new deal. A little more dead money(3 mil) but we clear 6.5 mil. A 6th

Too bad about Misi's durability issues, he is a quality player but he will just have to be released. Clear 3.8

I trade Earl Mitchell and Billy Turner to the Vikings for Cordarrelle Patterson. IMO, Billy Turner should be competing at RT somewhere and we screwed that pooch by spending a 1st round pick on a RT only. Dolphins clear 3 mil and acquire the best KR in the NFL. Dolphins teach Patterson how to block and convert him into a RB in the mold of Eric Dickerson or more realistically James Starks. It has become obvious to everyone that Cordarrelle is never going to run routes 30 yards downfield and make catches under duress.

Bryce McCain? Is he worth a 7th to anybody? Nah..Greg Jennings,Jason Fox,Quentin Coples and b. McCain cut. Clear 16 mil

Dolphins extend and restructure both Reshad Jones and Jordan Cameron. Jordan takes a pay cut but gets a 4 year deal and Jones gets a big raise and we lock him up until he is 33. Dawn Aponte earns her money right here by working these two deals so the cap hit in 2016 is drastically reduced for both players and they get their money in 17 and 18 when we have very little on the books. clear 12 mil

Of course the Dolphins exercise the option in Suh's contract and drop his cap number in 2016 by about 13 mil if I remember right.

No idea what they will do with Cam Wake's contract but I think it would be safe to say they will want to keep him around and they will find a way to drop that cap number a few mil at least.

These moves clear about 60 million after dead money. Bring back Miller and Rishard Matthews. I'm a Hazel believer and Stills is just 23 but if Matthews doesn't ask too much.

FA's: Donald Penn LT top tier Iron Man! PFF's #7 LT just never misses games, will be 33 next year 2 yr deal? Trumaine Johnson CB mid tier, thinking the Rams keep Janorris Jenkins but Johnson had a monster year 7 int......Haloti Gnata DE mid tier, Gnata will be a good stopgap and mentor for a couple years.....Derrick Johnson ILB mid tier, had a really great year, fits perfect for a new 3-4 defense.....Reggie Nelson mid tier, could be expensive because of the 8 interceptions but his age should keep the price out of top tier range. Ryan Wendell OG/Center insurance vet backup bottom tier, Leon Hall CB veteran depth, possible nickel, might stay healthy, bottom tier

Draft: Trade down from the 6th to the 13th with the Lions seeking one of the top two LT's and garner a 2nd
1st....Carson Wentz QB Wentz is Batman! FCS National champion,6'5" 235 will probably run at least a 4.6, elite character and leader, brilliant 4.0 GPA engineering graduate, all the throws with a lightening quick release, super pocket awarenes and elusivity

3rd.....James Cowser OLB Another academic all american..http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...et-the-prospect-southern-utah-de-james-cowser

    4th...Adam Gotsis DE
    5th.....Miles Killibrew SS/Will LB A Missile
    6th......Cole Toner OT/OG/Center Harvard man
    6th (from Raiders).....Tanner McAvoy...Safety/OLB/QB
    7th......joe Dahl OT/OG
FA....Zach Vraa WR Wentz's favorite target
    Adairius Barnes CB elite speed
    Ian Wells CB/Safety
    LaQuan McGowan TE kinda big

Roster/DC...Brandon Albert moves inside to LG, maybe he can stay healthy there
QB.....Tannehill,Wentz...at least to start the season
    RB.....Miller,Ajayi,Williams,Patterson
    TE....Jordan Cameron,Dion Simms,Jake Stoneburner,McGowan
    WR...Landry,Parker,Matthews,Stills,Hazel,Herron,Vraa
    OT....Donald Penn,Juwuan James, Joe Haeg,Joe Dahl
    Center/OG...Ryan Kelly,Brandon Albert,Spencer Drango,Wendell,Cole Toner,Dallas Thomas?

NT...Jordan Phillips, DeAndre Coleman,Robert Thomas ll I think if Coleman bulked up 0-tech might be his best position
    DE...Suh,Gnata,Kaufusi,Fede,Adam Gotsis
    ILB...Derrick Johnson,Jelani Jenkins,Zach Vigil,Miles Killibrew
    OLB...No order, up for grabs...James Cowser,Damontre Moore,Wake,Chris Mcain,Dion Jordan
    Safety...Jones,Nelson,Sean Davis,Michael Thomas,Ian Wells
    CB.....Trumaine Johnson,Tony Lippett,Leon Hall,Bobby McCain,Jamar Taylor,Adairius Barnes

In 2017 the Dolphins cut Tannehill and Albert and sign free agents ILB Donta Hightower and Edge rusher Chandler Jones away from the rival Patriots and David DeCastro to replace Brandon Albert at LG as well as backup QB Tyrod Taylor

In the 2017 draft trade up and draft edge rusher Myles Garrett and Jake Butt TE and ILB Riley Bullough

I will not be happy if we trade down in the 1st. We are at a sweet spot where we should be able to pick a potentially great player at one of LB, CB or FS. Even this FO can't miss if we pick at #6.

Yeah.. though technically that wasn't THIS front office :wink2:

Yeah.. this is closer to proving what I said wrong. In any case, I still think we're very likely to draft a real playmaker if we don't trade down.

I have no interest in seeing the Dolphins trade down in the first round. Especially so they can draft a QB who will likely not be as good as Tannehill in the NFL.

If they are going to trade their first round draft pick, they should trade up in the draft in an effort to pick Goff or Lynch. Those are the only two QB's in the entire draft who have a chance of becoming quality starters in the NFL, IMO.

Matthews will not be coming back to the Dolphins. He didn't want to come back this season, but he was under contract. So now that he is going to be free agent, he will sign with a team where he can get paid as a
#2 WR. On the Dolphins, the best he could sign for is as a third WR on the roster.

I will be very surprised if Cameron agrees to redo his contract. I think he can go elsewhere and probably receive more money and be a bigger part of the offense. I think he would be a great TE in the Patriots offense. With him and Gronk, they would finally have their replacement for Hernandez. I just don't know if the Patriots have the cap space or the desire to sign Cameron.

The Dolphins have one player on the roster who made the pro bowl, Pouncey, and you want to trade him. He isn't the problem on the OL. The two guards and Fox having to play the majority of the season at RT is the problem with the OL.

All trading Pouncey accomplishes is creating another huge hole on the offensive line.

I don't see the Dolphins having all the draft picks you show in your scenario. I think when the draft is over, they will end up picking 6 players. They will probably trade a couple of their late round picks to move up and get a player in the 4th or 5th round.

I think it is going to take at least three years before the Dolphins are a legitimate playoff contender and that will only happen if they have solid drafts the next three years. Their free agent signings over the coming years also need to have more of an impact than the majority of the free agents have had in Miami the last several years.

I do agree Tannehill will no longer be a Dolphin after next year, but I don't see Wentz as the long term answer for the Dolphins at that position. I think it will be Lynch, Goff, or a QB drafted in the first round of the 2017 draft.

Actually I think trading down in the first and garning a 2nd rounder while still drafting a future HOF QB is the piece de resistance of the whole post; I love the move. Anyone who hasn't seen the greatness of Carson Wentz.....just hasn't looked.

I really don't care about Rishard Matthews, I don't like the guy and I think he is overrated. Like I said, I believe in Hazel, and Stills is only 23 years old.

You want to send our TE who is 6'5" 255 and runs a 4.53 and runs great routes and has great hands, is smart with high character, and still kinda young, has been to a pro bowl......you want to send him to the Patriots????? Who the eff are you??

As far as Pouncey goes, he is an degenerate idiot, albeit a talented center. This OL is an abomination and it needs to be rebuilt with sound and strong leadership by smart guys with excellent character. I would love to get Bronson Kaufusi, Spencer Drango, and 6 mil in cap room to sign one of the best safeties in the NFL who has 8 interceptions this year instead of the idiot Pouncey. I think Drango will have a better career than Pouncey in the long run anyway.

You want to trade up in the mid-rounds???? Ya, that has worked really well in the past, hasn't it. You want another Walt Aikens or Will Davis, is that it??

Three years to get to the playoffs with Goff or Lynch or a mystery guy in 2017. That is just really dismal and depressing. But....when you have bad leadership with bad ideas even the three year plan is a stretch.

I like my plan much better. Wentz takes over mid-season next year and we beat out our division rivals and go to the playoffs next year, and then in 2017 we cut Tannehill and Albert and proceed to pillage the Patriots and sign a couple of their best defenders and win the SB while the Patriots and Jets sit home.

However, Ross remains on the throne, but I digress; there IS hope for the Dolphins and an aggressive and ruthless off-season plan could work.

I don't get it? We don't even have a bona fide kick returner and you wouldn't want to trade for the consensus best kick returner in the NFL?? Why not?

Not to mention the fact that the guy is an extraordinary athlete and if he could learn to be a decent blocker may have future value on offensive snaps, but that would just be a bonus.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Personally I don't see Wentz as anything more than a career backup in the NFL, but obviously you like him more than I do. I just don't see the Dolphins drafting him. So I guess we both will see how he works out with another team.

I like Cameron and would love to see him restructure his contract and remain with the Dolphins. I just don't see it happening. I certainly don't want to trade him to the Patriots. I merely mentioned him as a great fit for their offense because they are much better at getting their TE's involved in the offense than the Dolphins are.
Perhaps that will change under the next HC, but we will have to wait and see.

As far as the Dolphins trading late round picks to move up a few rounds is concerned. Again this isn't what I would do, but based on the fact Tannebaum is running the team and trading late picks to move up is what was done in the draft last year, this is what I expect will happen in this years draft.

I would love to have all the picks you list, but it isn't going to happen, IMO. I don't see them trading down in the first round and I certainly don't see them trading Pouncey.

So without those moves, they won't have four picks in the second round.

As I stated, you are entitled to your opinion. My opinion is just different and we will see how things work out in the draft and with Wentz over the coming years, when he is playing for another NFL team.

I still see this as a minimum three year rebuilding program. While I agree it is depressing to once again have to go through another blowup of the roster, it is what it is.
