We all know what happened last year when Miami won an emotional but meaningless game against the Dolphins. "Joe Philbin is coming back!!!"

I didn't get to see the game, but I was score peeking and watching Red Zone. I saw the shot of Stephen Ross bumbling a bunch of high fives with the equally dopey Tannenbaum. Could we be looking at another situation where Ross makes a poor decision based on an emotional meaningless win? Could Dan Campbell have just saved his job?

    Time will tell...

Absolutely, enjoy it as long as you want. Enjoy it all off season. I'm not trying to tell anyone not to be happy about the win. I'm just concerned about Stephen Ross and his decision making process.

Ross already decided Philbin was coming back before that win.

What are you supposed to do? Tell the players to lay an egg so the organization can draft better? That's the absolute wrong message to send.

I know. I worry that he could make a hasty decision. I like Campbell, but he is not ready to be a head coach. In the future, he could be could, but presently, he is not ready.

Players quit on Philbin last year. They did the complete opposite for Campbell. And that's after he got serious, in their face, and demanded better.

Head coach gets a good set of coordinators around him you want someone that can:

    -Lead men

-Make game day calls by knowing the game

-Can put egos aside and demand excellence from even the biggest stars on the team

I think Campbell does all of that. I am for him if

    IF IF IF

he can bring in strong coordinators. We saw what we could do offensivley today with giving RT the chance to throw down the field. IT was magical.

If they can get 2 good coordinators, it wouldn't be awful. Still, I'd rather get someone with a little more experience.

One question mark for me with Campbell is the relative lack of discipline (esp. the penalties). But yeah, at least he gets guys to stay competitive and yes getting coordinators that can do the X's and O's would be crucial if we retain him.

Either way, I'd still rather have a proven NFL coach or at worst a good coordinator that deserves a HC gig (personally I want Hue).

With what he had to work with, I think Anamuro should get consideration for a coordinator position.

    Here and there
How does it hurt us? We are in the 8th spot with 6 wins and we might be in the 7th spot if we lost.

I think Campbell has done enough to get himself an interview, but I don't think he gets the job permanently. I really think his next gig will be as an Asst. Head Coach where he can learn a little bit more without tarnishing his name/image by taking an awful job like Cleveland where he is destined to fail.

Interview Campbell, Hue Jackson, Mike Shula, and Adam Gase, if you can. Show the fans that you are, at least, in touch enough to warrant looking at the hot names, this offseason.

Did you see when Landry caught the pass over the middle and stood over the CB talking trash? They went to Marino who was sitting next to Desmond Howard who was next to Ross, read Marinos lips! You don't need to do that S***!

Maybe Marino will get in his ear?

I honestly think Tannenbaum has more say in the next HC than Ross does. And Tannenbaum wouldn't make such a decision so quickly, this decision means everything to him.

That said, it was a great win for campbell and I'm hoping he stays on the staff even if/when we hire someone else.

Nope, like I said in another thread, the Dolphins should have just forfeited and stayed home.

I`m pretty much on the fence with this one. I like Campbell but I hope we don't regret it come next season if he stays. Today was a great win ( regardless what the draft nuts think ), but it shouldn't cloud the judgement long term with the HC search.

I think Campbell is fine with a good staff. How many "genius" coordinators fall flat on their face as head coaches? Being an X-O guy doesn't mean you will be a strong head coach. Campbell does show some traits of being a good one and now has experience as well. I don't think he should be given the job but he should definitely be the guy to beat so to speak.

    Never happening, $$$$$$$$$.

Also, I cannot believe some people actually want Campbell to be our next head coach. After the crapshow this team has been, we need a veteran presence and that is NOT Campbell. He needs time as an OC or Assistant HC for a few years before he gets a legit offer. Come on now.

I think some in this thread are falling into the same emotional trap that Ross did last year. A big win in the last game of the season, and we are all left on a high note, instead of realizing all the bad this team put on the field in 2015. Give it a week, and I don't think we will have too many people championing for Campbell as coach. I think it's a very small minority to begin with.

FWIW, I wouldn't jump off a cliff if Campbell was hired, but only if it was after a very thorough coaching search where he was determined to be the best candidate, or, the more likely result, the better options turned Stephen Ross down due to the muddled organizational structure of the team.

Since Ross didn't go tripping to a microphone to announce anything yesterday, I think we are safe from an emotional decision. Now we get to see Ross and his merry band try not to completely **** up a coaching search.

I do not agree with this.

I think it is more of the Todd Bowles effect. There seems to be a good head coach in the making and people do not want to let go of a good coach when they have one.

This season was really bad, however Vince Lombardi's ghost couldn't have turned this team around mid-stream.

I do think Campbell would be a fine hire, IF, they were able to get really good coordinators. That is a big IF though.

Even with all of the terrible play he never lost the locker room. Players still love him. That is decently impressive.

he is not my first choice, however after all of the recent hires, I couldn't be any worse than Philbin.

I'll never understand people like you. You think you're witty. You are nothing but a wannabe armchair GM. Any true fan wants to win at anytime, regardless. It was a great win! As if we're going to know what to do with the pick anyway....

I believe Campbell is already the choice. I don't think they hire a new GM if that decision has not already been made. Most "great" coaches want to choose their own players.

I hope we find a way to keep Campbell around on staff if another coach comes in. However, I worry about the long term "undermining" effect keeping him around may have.

Its kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't...all too familiar when you look at Bowles a few years back...

I heard Ross just watched Star Wars. Think he's leaning toward Chewbacca as the lead candidate... maybe takes his private jet to that island to tempt Luke.
