First Dolphins QB since Dan to throw for over 4000 yards in back to back seasons.

    The future is so bright....

    You know the rest!

You got me man, there are plenty of worse QBs.

Oh well, luckily none of them are in charge!

That's the thing right there. When he has decent protection he makes plays so that's the number one reason I never gave up on him. At times he frustrated all of us , but he`s proved to be effective when the pocket allows him to read the defense and react and move around. Its hard to be a playmaker when you`re knocked on your *** before you even have a chance to see the routes develop. I know ,I know, one game does not a season make but Tannehill has proved in the past that he can move the offense when players around him do their job as well.

Yeah, I'm not yet sold on Tannehill. I see games where I think he can be our franchise QB, and I see games where I think we need to get rid of him.

But the TD/INT ratio, yards and very importantly the increase in Y/A to 7.2 (first time he crossed 7) shows that overall he didn't regress from last year, even though he didn't improve anywhere as much as most hoped he would.

So I guess we'll see how he does in the 2016 season! The most important improvements I want to see are much better pocket awareness (shift to avoid pressure, and know when to run), clutch performance when trailing in the 4th, and consistency.

With the OL being so bad for so long, we simply don't really know what we have in Tannehill.

There is this myth out there that great qbs can overcome horrific oline play. Look at Brady and when the latest injuries to the oline turned his oline unto our oline. 2-3 over that period. Brees, rivers, etc...tannehill is a top ten QB playing behind an abomination of an online. If our front office ever builds an even average oline for the guy we will have the stats that meet his talent

True, his deep ball improved, clearly, felt like he sort of stepped back in a couple of other areas

When I hear he is "the 25th Qb in the league" find it absurd, he has a lot to work with and keep in mind the Staff was chaos this season, he maintained, good in a way, not great in another way. The mantra in the NFL is "great players make great plays", which he did not consistently do this year

People like to think that Ryan Tannehill is hard to figure out. I disagree. It's not a coincidence that he plays his best games when the offensive line actually gives him decent time to scan the field. We saw it against the Giants, and we saw it against the Patriots. That New England defense is no slouch either.

I saw a lot of comments today about Tannehill along the lines of "why can't he play like this all the time?"

That's simple, because most of the time the offensive line is dog ****, and when they decide to not be dog ****, look what happens. Big, clutch throws throughout the game.

Ryan has things he needs to improve upon without a doubt, but it's games like this that show you why people still believe in him. He's perfectly capable of winning games, the rest of the offense just needs to do their part. Add in a coaching staff that actually knows what they're doing and we have something cooking.

It was the same offensive line it has been lately. The difference was he made a couple plays with his feet and FINALLY decided to throw the ball down the field (and yes those throws have been open all year)

Yep when the Pats OL got injured and couldnt protect Brady they decided to play safe ball and still got Brady hammered. This since it was done by Bellichek is another "Genius" move by him.

Tannehil has been playing with a similar OL for years.

Yes they played Brady and Gronk all but 5 mins BUT if they truly were just trying to protect players and "play it safe" Brady wouldnt have played past the first couple of hits and Gronk wouldnt have played at all.

One good game still hasn't sold me on him. This title could have easily been "Tannehill with another first"...........win in the last game of the season.

EDIT: Remember...this weeks game was the first TD pass he threw in a few games too.

I disagree. I think that its clear that we have a good QB who's tough as nails, and in spite of being handcuffed by the OL play and poor play design and calls, has played something like the 12th best QB in the league over the last two seasons. A guy who threw exactly one INT in the last five games of the season, and only 3 over the last nine games, vs 11 TD passes in that time frame.

I'm totally confidant that we have a QB who is already proven to be good. He may even become great, when not handicapped by the nonsense and garbage he's been surrounded by.

The blocking WAS better yesterday. The run game WAS better yesterday. Tannehill WAS better yesterday. The Defense WAS better yesterday. It was evident of what we have when all the pieces are playing together. For the team.

RT is not the biggest issue that needs addressed. In fact I think he has shown he can be a weapon given the proper TEAM around him. Hopeful that the new coach agrees and that they spend some time/money fixing the OL this offseason and that RT really starts to shine.

With Tanne it's all about clutch, I've said it time and again, I'd be happy with Tanne IF he was clutch.

1 good game after a string of bad games hasn't changed my opinion of Tanne, but like most people I'd love to see a good Oline here, I thought they should have spent 2-3 picks on Oline last year.

He still hasn't shown me all that I'd like to see, but his YPA has improved, and that's with a lower completion % meaning shots further down the field are being completed. He's going nowhere for 2016 and if he stinks up the joint, will still get part of 2017 to compete with whoever. He's no Russell Wilson but he's what we got, and his ceiling isn't that high but high enough.

This post pretty much sums up my thoughts on Tannehill and the Tannehill related debates that have and will continue to rage on. Until this organization places a premium on protecting Tannehill, something this organization hasn't done in 4 years, I'm going to stand firm on my belief that Tannehill is and should continue to be the starting QB of the Dolphins. There's too much evidence to suggest that Tannehill is capable of great things when he's got time to drop back, read the field, and deliver the ball.

And there's overwhelming evidence of how important pass protection is in general, in relation to how well a QB performs. Whether it's the fall from grace that Andrew Luck experienced in the eyes of media/fans in 2015, to the rise of Dalton and Newton (7th and 4th best pass protecting offensive lines) in the eyes of media/fans. You can't turn on a sports related TV/radio show today without hearing about Rodgers and Brady's inability to succeed in the face over constant and overwhelming pressure. Yet, nobody seems to care that Tannehill has dealt with those same offensive line limitations his entire career. Sacks, hits, pressures, etc... Tannehill has never had a season without that kind of tremendous adversity.

Last year he finished with a 93 qb rating, this year 89. He's limited his INT's to 12 in back to back years, which is a pretty strong number. Only twice did he have multiple INT games in 2015. Set a franchise record for most att. w/o an INT (He almost accomplished that as a rookie, BTW, so that isn't a fluke). Set an NFL record for consecutive competitions, besting McNabb. At one point in 2015, he was trailing only Tom Brady for most consecutive games with multiple TD passes... Last year, he became the first QB since Vick to have 4 straight games of 40+ yards rushing (5 yards away from 5 straight). I'm not saying he's Brady, Marino, Vick, McNabb, whoever else. I'm not saying he's elite. My thoughts on Tannehill are summed up, like this...

Tannehill at his worst, has shown over the last 3 seasons, he's a high floor QB. He's going to throw 20+ TD's, 4,000 yards, 60% completion, and limit his INT's to around 12-14ish. He isn't going to make a ton of mistakes. He's not going to make a ton bad reads and bad throws. And he can/does flash high ceiling ability. Now that we know his floor, the question is now, what's his ceiling? I can't give anyone a definitive answer to that question. We'll never know until this organization invests various resources into their franchise QB.

I will say, it's encouraging to see guys like Andy Dalton and Cam Newton step up in the way they have. Cam is kind of a different animal than anyone else in the league, so he's hard to compare anyone with... That being said, both QB's have top offensive line production/pass protection in 2015, something which neither have had previously. And Both QB's took huge leaps in their passing game. On the flip side, Andrew Luck's fall from grace is also encouraging, in another way. With an offensive line that's as bad as Miami's, Luck produced 17 TD's, 15 INT's, 55% completion, and 6.4 YPA. Fix the offensive line and I feel good about Miami's offense and Tannehill.

Exactly. They were good. Not great. Same as Tannehill, who also has been good the past few years. If you go strictly by the numbers, Tannehill had better numbers in all of their 3rd and 4th years in the league.

Cam, is a different animal than anything we've ever seen at QB. It's so hard to compare him against anyone. Having said that, despite being more dynamic, many did believe Tannehill was a better passer. From Peter King, Greg Cosell, etc... Those type of thoughts were echoed by many people here too. And just like Tannehill, there were people questioning if he had "earned" his new contract. *For the record, I've been on Cam's bandwagon all along. I think he's a special player in every way.

With Dalton, especially after his 2014 season, the narrative over the course of the off-season was that he could lose his job to AJ McCarron. In fact, some people thought McCarron had a stronger camp than Dalton and it was only a matter of time before he took over. Those thoughts were washed away when Dalton started slinging at an elite level. But they did exist at one point and for good reason. Dalton didn't consistently play at a high level and was a turnover prone with 3 consecutive seasons with 16+ INT.

The comparison of Cam and Dalton to Tannehill is fair. Both QB's had question marks, as neither had ever had "elite seasons." Both teams have top 10 offensive lines in 2015 and both took huge leaps in their passing ability. If Miami were to invest in their franchise QB, I could just as easily see Tannehill having similar success as he's already demonstrated he's a high floor QB w/poor offenses.

What am I making up exactly? That was the quote, that Dalton and Newton have risen, when they have been good all along. It is not like they were bad QB's before this year and I would have taken either of those over Tannehill in any year. But, if you want to twist the truth go ahead.

I would love to know just how some of 'you' - not you specifically, but any of those who assert such claims - guys who claim to know that the routes are open for such and such a play or over any quantifiable and capable of visual justification period coinciding with the moment just as Tannehill happens to scan that portion of the field while also keeping part of his conscious mental processes open to notice which of the 'offensive' linemen have managed to allow some very large red-eyed, slobbering monster loosed headed in his direction, are so ****-eyed sure that the routes are open from Tannehill's perspective? If you do have that information, could you please share it with the rest of us poor peons who are only able to watch the games on ordinary television sets, maybe slightly enhanced by having purchased the NFL network so we can watch the network broadcast?

I have not seen anywhere on any of those channels past and present for a number of years (51 right now) any qualified commentator break down the plays sufficiently to show that those routes are open as consistently as I read those assertions on these boards from those who choose to base the failure of the entire offense on the most visible target - the quarterback. Do you have the coaches tape and the coaches credentials to make such statements? Or, are 'you' - not you specifically, but any of those who assert such claims - able to speak to the question?

    Dear Rev,

You are stepping on a dog crap land mine that's on a trap door which leads to a dungeon that has a trail of redundancy that goes down a steep hill slicked up with stupid at the end of which is a brick wall of spin. If you continue down this path, and by all means someone of your stature and maturity level should absolutely not...but if you do, you should not make this decent into forum hell alone. Bring an experienced guide.

So, let me get this straight you watch the games, yet you think in every other game that Tannehill has played in the WR's have always been completely defensed except for this last game? You have never heard an announcer say, that receiver was wide open, he shoulda gone there. You've never SEEN a receiver run open only to have Tannehill stay locked onto the one guy who was not and take the sack? IF that is what you think I really cannot discuss this further with you.

When Tannehill is getting sacked quickly, which is usually the case, it's not really being "locked onto" a receiver. It's about not having time to go through progressions.

But keep on with your drivel about how bad he is.

The whole "Tannehill always locks onto receivers" narrative is bull**** anyway.

Anyone remember that 3rd and 12 completion along the sideline to Parker on Sunday?

Tannehill took the snap. Looked left. Then looked middle. Then looked right and threw a strike.

And once again, it proves that Tannehill looks like what a good quarterback is supposed to look like when he actually has time to scan the field.

This is why I laugh at people (like Omar) who think blaming the offensive line is an excuse. It's a LEGIT problem. A BIG problem.

DeVante Parker is nominated for Rookie of the week.

    http://www.nfl.com/voting/rookies/2015/REG/17?campaign=tw-nf-sf18064686-sf18064686

Next to his name there is a highlight package for him. Click and watch the first play. It's the one I referenced.

Tannehill scans the field from left to right because he actually has time to. This isn't rocket science, fellas.

    Also, Tannehill is nominate for:

Clutch performer of the week: http://www.nfl.com/voting/clutch-performer/2015/REG/17?campaign=tw-nf-sf18065546-sf18065546

And QB of the week: http://www.nfl.com/voting/players-air-and-ground/2015/REG/17?campaign=tw-nf-sf18065539-sf18065539

Ryan being nominated for clutch performer of the week is weird, because I was told that he could never come through in the 4th quarter. I was also told he couldn't play well against division foes. Double weird.
