He was previously in negotiations with the Colts to take over for Pagano but the deal fell through. It's clear that Indy is his top choice and he's going to roll the dice on the Saints for another year in the hopes that either they'll turn it around or Pagano is gone after next season.
I am actually happy we didn't get him. Giving up precious draft picks with so many holes on this team would not have been worth it
I was all for Payton prior to the end of the season, but with the soap opera that was unfolding at the end of the season this past Sunday, I too am glad we didn't make a play for him
