Dolphins interviewed Doug Marrone and Bills running backs coach Anthony Lynn today.

After Marrone completely screwed over the Bills. I dont see how he could be a HC candidate for any team

    Well away from here
He has a high opinion of himself, but I do think he is a good coach. He was likely humbled and he may have a chip on his shoulder to prove tht was an aberration rather than the norm.

I really don't see how he screwed over the Bills. He signed on to be the head coach under a different ownership. He had a right to leave once the new ownership took over and for his own reasons he decided to opt out of his contract, which he was entitled to do.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with an individual deciding to leave his job if a new ownership comes in and he doesn't feel comfortable working for the new owner.

Players leave teams all the time for more money or because they don't like the head coach or the area the team is located. Coaches should and do have the same rights as the players.

The only way he might have screwed over the Bills is that by leaving, the new ownership hired Ryan as the new head coach. I can certainly see how some Bills fans might think they got the short end of the stick in that head coaching swap.

My first choice for the Dolphins next head coach is Hue Jackson, but Marrone is a close second. There is no other coach on their interview list even close to these two, IMO.

Shanahan would have been a great hire 10 years ago, but now I prefer a younger coach who has previous head coaching experience in the NFL. Those coaches are Jackson and Marrone.

He may or may not be a good HC, the jury is still out, and he had the right as you say, but a lot of the players thought he "quit" on the team, Fred Jackson was pretty vocal about it, he said when he heard the news it felt like he got punched in the stomach, and called him a quitter.

You could certainly make the case that he just took the money and ran, because he was paid in full by the Bills for 2015 while also collecting a check from the Jags.

Just remember how before the season everyone was babbling on about how Rex Ryan would make the Bills great, but despite Rex Ryan having a much better QB in Tyrod Taylor than Marrone ever had, and consequently much better offense, Rex went backwards on Marrone's record. In a large part because Ryan's D wasn't as capable as Marrone's.

I'd be cool with Marrone. Always kinda liked him, and the product on the field generally seemed to surpass expectations, even going back to Syracuse. That ending with Buffalo was not a good look, though.

Doug Marrone wanted a contact extension for himself and his staff with the Bills. It was only AFTER he didn't get that extension that he opted out. Took the money and ran. $4 million, taking advantage of a clause in the contract. If he hated it in Buffalo so badly or was less than satisfied with the new ownership, then why was he jockeying for an extension? It's documented that he did this, so perhaps you are unaware of it. He screwed over the Bills alright...ask the people he left behind there. Pulled the rug right out from underneath, thinking only of himself. Lots of people supposedly in the know came out of the woodwork with less than flattering things to say about the man after the fact.

Ryan didn't really go backward on Marrone's record...not really. The Patriots rested their starters in week 17 against the Bills, as they had nothing to play for. To me, the Bills had the same record this year as they did last year: 8-8. Jim Schwartz ran that defense (not Marrone), and he was more responsible for whatever success the Bills had than Marrone by a country mile. Marrone also benefited from a healthy team last year, while Rex had horrible injuries this year. I think half the starters were out for the last game...literally..and they still managed to send the Jets packing home. Old habits die hard? Rex still helping the Jets lose?

Marrone is supposed to be some sort of offensive-line guru, but the line regressed badly under him...just like the defense did with Rex this year.

I get wanting to be optimistic about the new guy, but I wouldn't be optimistic about Saint Doug. As a Bills fan, I hope the Dolphins hire him. It'll give me all the more reason to hate you guys again. ;)

Good points. I don't follow the Bills very closely. Over the years Rex Ryans name has been linked to the Dolphins a couple of times and every time I look at him I come away not as impressed as other people, so it made me happy that the Bills went backwards yet the Jets improved this year.

I suppose its a bit like Nick Saban. When his name comes up for NFL jobs we Dolphins fans can tell other fanbases to not get their hopes up because he is a poison chalice for an NFL team.

There are more than a few knowledgeable Bills fans who long for Marrone after seeing a season of Rex. He did pretty well with pretty mediocre talent and garbage at QB. He did, of course, have Jim Schwartz.

Doug Marrone would be a very bad coach for our football team, but on the plus side, he would definitely get Mike Tannenbaum fired by 2020.

Any Bills fan who misses Marrone isn't knowledgeable. The defense was all Schwartz and he just oversaw an offense that was terrible. His specialty is being an OL coach and that was by FAR the worst unit on the team.

As a Bills fan I HOPE you guys hire him. He's awful.

And I just realized the other guy pretty much said the exact same thing as me. The "urgency" video is the epitome of that jackass.

If it was in his contract that he could leave once a new owner took over, I still don't see how he screwed over anyone by leaving.
The fact he asked for more money for himself and his staff and didn't get it may be the reason he felt he couldn't work with the new owner and therefore he used the clause in his contract to take the money and run.

This is no different than what Bill Parcells did with the Dolphins. He had a clause in his contract that he could leave if a new owner took over the team and he would receive his entire salary for five years. He left the team two and a half years into his contract and he received payment for the entire term of his contract.

If there were clauses in the contracts of Parcells and Marrone which allowed them to leave if a new owner purchased the team. They obviously wanted this as part of their contract because they felt they wanted to make the decision if they wanted to work with the new owner or not.

New owners frequently buy the team and fire everyone and no one says the owner screwed anyone. They simply say it is his team and he can do as he pleases. In this case, Marrone wasn't obligated to work under the new owner per his contract and he decided to walk. I see absolutely wrong in what he did.

You don't get it. He quit on Buffalo. HE didn't even tell his players that he was leaving, they found out by ESPN!. And he's even disliked in Jacksonville rumors say. Do you really want a guy like that as a HC.

No, you don't seem to get it. His contract allowed him to walk if he didn't want to work with the new owner. Obviously he didn't want to work under this new owner and he only did what his contract allowed him to do.

As far as your unsubstantiated rumors of him not being liked in Jacksonville is concerned. If that is actually the truth, why is he still a member of the Jaguars coaching staff? Obviously the head coach in Jacksonville has no problem with Marrone if he hasn't fired him because of this rumor of him being disliked.

My preference for the Dolphins next head coach is Hue Jackson. Yet I would prefer Marrone over any of the other candidates who have no head coaching experience and that includes Gase.

    I don't want Marrone.

However, I think its funny that Bills fans think he sucks but are also upset he left. That makes no sense.

Oh, Okay. So just because the Head Coach likes him and has the final say means everyone else automatically has to like him?. That's why he's still on the team. ONLY THE HC appears to like him. I've done some snooping on Jags forums. And Marrone kept coming up. He's very disliked in Jacksonville.

And clause in you're contract or not. HE DIDN'T EVEN GIVE THE NEW OWNERS A TRY!.YOU DONT' JUST QUIT ON THE TEAM. He didn't even tell his players. Fred Jackson even called him a quitter. His ego is too big for even himself to handle. And to want a HC like that is taking 2 steps back.

But unfortunately, it's going to be Gase. This second meeting today. They're not going to let him leave the building.

Obviously Marrone must have killed your dog or something. Because your dislike of him is quite apparent. What he did in Buffalo just doesn't bother me. I have seen too many new owners of sport franchises come in and fire the head coach and nobody is upset about that.

In this case, he fired the new owner and I'm okay with that.

As as you state though. It appears Gase will be the next head coach and that should upset you more than the possible hiring of Marrone. I really don't understand why Gase is such a hot candidate and the fact they are once again possibly hiring another head coach with no head coaching experience really upsets me. It is just damn frustrating. Especially when you have a much better candidate in Hue Jackson who is still out there waiting to be a head coach again.

I also think Marrone is a better candidate and I would prefer keeping Campbell over the hiring of Gase.

They cancelled the interview with Hue Jackson. And Adam Gase cancelled his 2nd interview with the Eagles. I'd say it's pretty much a sure thing that he will be our next head coach. Ross is making another mistake. I have a problem with a OC who got famous off of Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler. As should you.

What I find interesting is there have been comments on this forum that Bear fans are upset about losing Gase.
So I went onto their forums to see what the Bear fans are saying about him. While there are a few fans who appear to be upset he might leave. The vast majority of the fans don't seem upset at all. They are merely discussing who the next OC should be.

In fact I saw a couple of comments which referred to Gase as another Philbin. As most of the fans point out. The Bears certainly weren't a top offense this past season and they had the same record as the Dolphins.

As I stated earlier, I see this hiring as a power play by Tannebaum and I see another head coaching search, a new GM and a new head of football operations hiring taking place within 3 years if Gase is the next Dolphins head coach.

That doesn't surprise me in the least. Gase is Philbin 2.0
