...is give Gase a chance! I've never seen such pessimism towards a Dolphins hire on this board before. Hey, maybe that's a good sign since most people liked the past few hires... Gase wasn't my first choice either but after learning more about him, he's starting to grow on me. One thing I can definitely say is that he is a much better choice than the past few Dolphins HCs. Let's take a look at what he brings to the table and compare that to previous Dolphins HCs: 1) Gase is viewed in coaching circles as a cerebral X&O's type guy. That's more than we can say about Campbell, Philbin, and Sparano. 2) Gase has had experience as a scouting assistant, WR coach, QB coach, and offensive coordinator. A lot of versatility there, unlike Philbin, Campbell and Sparano who've been either OL, TEs coach or a glorified OC before being hired by the Dolphins. 3) Gase has had experience calling plays. >> Campbell, Philbin and Sparano. 4) Gase is establishing himself as somewhat of a QB whisperer. He's had some degree of success with his past three QB's. A lot of people don't want to count the Manning years but I'm not one of them. Even if all he did was just sit, listen, and learn from Peyton Manning for 3 years, that in itself is valuable. The guy worked closely with one of the best QB's to ever play the game (was his QB coach in 2012 and OC in 2013 and 2014), that is a positive to me. His QB coaching resume is probably the best we've seen the past 15+ years in a Dolphins HC hire. And before anyone brings up Philbin, no he did not ever work close with Aaron Rodgers like Gase did with Manning. 5) Gase is said to get along with everyone and has no ego. Always a positive to me. BONUS: There are reports saying that Campbell might be kept maybe as an Assistant HC or as an OC. I think this is just what the doctor ordered. Campbell already knows the locker room and has a personality that I think will complement Gase's perfectly. If Dan Campbell respects Gase (probably does, since Gase coached him in Detroit), the players will follow along, making the transition pretty smooth. What say you?
Gase is Philbin 2.0. I have serious doubts about a coach who rode Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler his whole play-calling career is a little questionable to me. Yes, these QB's speak highly of him. But Rodgers spoke very highly of Philbin and look how that turned out
This all sounds great, except it is Ross and Tannebaum I don't trust. So as long as these two are running this organization, I will continue to be pessimistic in regards to anyone they hire to coach this team.
Rode Jay Cutler? On what planet is Cutler good enough to be ridden on? I'm not talking about players speaking highly of their ex-coaches, most players do that. I'm talking about having actual experiences together. Gase actually called plays for Manning. Gase and Manning spoke so often that they had to create a rule about not texting on Friday nights to preserve their sanity. Find me a report of such similar experience that Philbin may have had with Rodgers. I'm pretty certain you won't find anything. The only thing you'll find is Aaron Rodgers commending Philbin. Actions speak louder than words.
PEYTON IS HIS OWN OC. No matter what Gase did, Peyton called his own plays. Making audibles at the line, etc. Gase did nothing with Peyton, so just take him out of the equation. Lets look at what he did with cutler. We took the 21st offense to the 20th. Whoooooopdee freakin dooooo. When he didn't have a crutch like Peyton to lean on. He showed his true colors. And those colors are shining brightly that he doesn't have enough experience yet as a OC to be getting as much recognition as he is now. All you have on Gase is what the QB'S say about him.
This is not entirely true. Peyton does make an OC's job much easier but he does have input from his OC's. And even if it was, how can you call that a negative? Even if Gase was there just for the ride, he must have learned a thing or two from Peyton that he can pass on to Ryan, don't you think? And about Chicago, they were ridden with injuries this season (especially at the WR position) an yet Cutler improved his passer rating, you don't think Gase had anything to do with that?
Passer rating means nothing if you're not winning games. Once again, without the Peyton "crutch" to lean on. Bears went 6-10. Same record as the Dolphins. Face it. Gase is just a younger Philbin
Take a look at the Bears Message boards. They don't seem all that bothered by Gase Most likely leaving. Why do you think that is? If Gase is really as respected as you think he is. Then how come a good majority of the fans are ecstatic to see Gase potentially leave?.
Why do I care what other fans think? Hell, I think most of our fans are reactionary idiots, and I doubt we're unique.
count me in. this hire feels different. i hope we get him. if don shula made a comeback this jaded fan base wouldnt be happy. by the way i understand that sentiment. we have been a dumpster fire for so long, some will think that anyone we hire will be the wrong choice, but we just wont really know till live action
There will be more discussions like this in 3 to 4 years. This guy has very little experience. Hopefully he learned something from Peyton. 7-9 next year...
No matter who we hired someone on this board and within the fanbase would be bashing it. I'm fine with Gase and willing to see what he can do with Tannehill and who will he be bringing in for his defensive coordinator.
I just can't believe that this team continues to hire losers. TC is a great coach and they should have hired him for just a few years. Let DC be his assistant and learn from him while TC turned Miami into a real team instead of a vacation destination for players.
The Broncos were awesome this year, with a terrible Manning. No one "rides" Jay Cutler. Crazy talk abounds around this hire.
Is he going to bring the backbone it takes? That's my main question, and I have serious doubts, Xs & Os are not what makes a good HC, ability to impose your will is the key factor, he has more of a Philbin like meek quality if you ask me.
He wasn't part of the Broncos this year, so not sure how that matters, and the Bears were 6-10 so no, he didn't ride Cutler to anything.
I'm guessing he's attributing Manning's dropoff partly to the loss of Gase. And the "riding Cutler" comment was in response to what J. Keller said before that Gase rode Manning and Cutler to success or whatnot.
Give him a chance? Like Saban, Cameron, Sparano and Philbin? How any dolphins fan can have any optimism any more is beyond me. They might as well have kept Campbell. Of course there are gonna be the same guys on here that love this guy and say the rest of us aren't really fans. And when we are right yet again and this guy fails and gets fired those same guys will be in love with the next nobody the dolphins higher as well. I can honestly say that I don't think this team will ever be good again.
Actually thats not what our Club members are saying. There was a poll taken before we knew who would be chosen and Gase was the third favorite choice after Jackson and Shanahan .There is general contentment with the choice. And we are learning now that he was the top choice of this regime all along. When was the last time we were able to land our top choice under Ross. Here are some quotes from players and coaches that know him. “He’s a good guy. He knows the game up and down, back and forth. He’s a great football mind" -Andre Caldwell "He’s a coach you want to play hard for, treats you w respect. Makes it fun coming to work and he’s brilliant at what he does” -B. Osweiler "He had the respect of everyone on that offense. It didn't matter how old he was. He made everyone better." -Jon Kitna "We’re fired up when we hear the play call because it’s on our shoulders to get these guys some openings. That’s Adam Gase.” -Kyle Long "He was like 25, here's this kid didn't play football, I was overwhelmed by his knowledge & passion for the game, how smart he was" -Martz "It was a conceptual thing w Adam. He just understood how things worked, and he was willing to work and he started from ground zero" -Saban "Worked hard, got along great w the players, very bright, had sort of a natural instinct for football, picking up on things" -Nick Saban "Fiery dude, has a way of getting his point across, whether he has to be silent or take a different approach, he gets it across" -J. Bushrod "Just the personality, gets along w/ guys and he's kind of a player's coach. Straightforward, doesn't feed them a line of B.S." -Bear Pascoe "I love the fast pace. The defense gets its hands on their knees, get confused, get tired. That’s when big plays happen." -K. Carey on Gase, Despite his overall lack of experience, Gase has been praised as a “master of innovation” by Fox, “the smartest guy I know” by Peyton Manning and a “genius” by John Elway. Now the hot discussion in the Club forum is who will be the DC and assistant coaches .There are some surprising and interesting names being mentioned.
This team has been castrated by the weenies in charge by getting rid of the "alpha male" component of the roster because they were too difficult for those weenies in charge to deal with. Incognito, Davis, Marshall, Dansby left a void on the roster that have been filled in by betas. Until that problem gets fixed, I expect the same results regardless of who's sitting in the HC's chair.
I really don't care what people say about him. The fact is, he has very little experience. Peyton Manning has more experience than this guy. Hell, let's wait until the playoffs are over and Peyton retires and hire Peyton Manning.
I see a lot about his ability on offense. What about defense? That was the stinkiest part of this team the last couple of seasons IMO
The only way to get HC experience is to actually, you know, be a head coach. Which coach that we aren't signing was a guarantee to turn this team around? People need to relax.
It will be funny if after all the *****ing about him, Gase drives us to a winning record, and all the complainers are singing his praises. Now, I'm not predicting he will be the answer, because there is no way of knowing. Just like no one can know if he will be a failure.
Miami was turned into a destination for first time coaches. Our last 3 coaches didn't have prior HC experience...how well did that work out.
A lot of us thought he would be the fallback choice if the Jackson and Gase pursuit didnt work out. It would have been a good match IMO .
Huge factor in our success going forward IMO. My close buddy who's been a Broncos fan forever keeps telling me he thinks it will be Dennis Allen because of their familiarity in Denver. He also expressed frustration with him when he was in Denver for lack of in-game adjustments and his run, run, pass, punt play calling while there. He could be talking out of his buns, this is just fan talk......but I think the DC hire will be of utmost importance based on how our defense was smacked around by this division....that and getting a stud or 2 in the OL, LB and CB positions
Like I said in another thread last night...when your team is bad, you cannot expect to be pulling in the premiere coaches, who want to go to a team they can win the Super Bowl with. You have to take chances on unproven guys, and build your team. Anyone who is predicting anything is wrong. Again, what candidate that we aren't hiring was guaranteed to have a winning record next year?
