Miami Dolphins Head Coaches since Dave Wannstedt resigned:
2004: Jim Bates, former defensive coordinator, Record: 3-4
2005-06: Nick Saban, college football head coach, Record: 15-17

2007: Cam Cameron, former offensive coordinator, Record 1-15
2008-11: Tony Sporano, former assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, Record: 29-32
2011: Todd Bowles, former assistant head coach and secondary coach, Record: 2-1
2012-15: Joe Philbin, former offensive coordinator, Record: 24-28
2015: Dan Campbell: former TE coach, Record: 5-7

If you are excited about the hiring of Adam Gase youre delusional. Look at the Dolphins unbelievable track record of never hiring people with NFL Head Coaching experience, and instead choosing coordinators. Even if you throw out the interim coaches, you're left with a combined record of 69-92

If you are excited that Gase is the "QB whisperer" and will make Tannehill great, you're even more delusional. When was the last time you heard of a former WR become a playoff winning QB?

I'm still a loyal fan, but it gets harder to be one every year.

While I agree it isn't my money. Signing someone to a contract for that amount of money might just make a different if he proves to be a complete failure.

Let's just say in two years it is shown that he isn't qualified to be an NFL head coach. Is Ross just going to fire him and eat the the remaining $28 million he is owed or is he going to keep him around just because he is still owed $28 million?

Hopefully he is still around in six years and it's because he has proven to be a successful head coach. I just think if the reports are true and he was given $42 million for six years. This is an absurd amount of money to give to someone who has never been anything but a fairly competent OC in the NFL and never been a head coach anywhere.

It appears Ross didn't want to be seen hiring his third or fourth choice as has happened previously. So instead, he grossly overpaid for a first time head coach who obviously hasn't proved he is worth half this dollar amount at this time.

If this is about thill then I hate it lol. He's a mediocre QB imo. I think I've made that known. But from little I know about Gase he seems to be an intelligent, strategic guy. Which is nothing like the failed coaches before him. I'm not going to assume he sucks based on him not having ready been hired and fired as a nfl coach. Guy is 37, he has to get a start somewhere. Might as well be with a clueless franchise. Maybe the fins get lucky. The offense can't possibly be any worse than we ve seen out of the previous coaches. Coughlin would've been my choice but even he would need a much better team than mia currently has. Gase success will be tied to tbaum and the scouts. That's the scary part but this team has been **** for over a decade. It's not gonna get any worse.

Based on what you've seen from Ross, including this hire, you really think he cares that much about losing $28 million when he's chasing the next hot potato?

The two seemingly have nothing in common and Philbin wasn't being interviewed or courted by other teams. Philbin had no credentials. Gase at least called plays and has been praised much more than Philbin was. Of course nobody says anything bad about any former employer publicly but Gase has gotten more endorsements than Philbin. If this guy adapts to the little bit of talent he has instead of trading them for next to nothing like Philbin did, that's a big difference there.

I was just drawing parallels to the surface level "he's respected around the league" comment. It literally means nothing, as it's a generalized comment you see about a lot of guys in the league.

I do agree that at least Gase called plays.

Look at the QB in that time frame. Bowles was a DC and I bet you'd consider him a solid hc now. To dislike a guy just because he hasn't already failed as a hc is a silly reason. Philbin was a coordinator in name only.

My view is that Tannehill will be on another roster in 2017. Hopefully if nothing else, Gase will be able to convince the FO that they need to start looking for a long term answer at the QB position, as soon as this years draft.

What was the Bears offense ranked 23rd last year? My god this is like Mularkey from Buffalo all over again except they are making this guy the coach!? What a nightmare. I'd rather have stuck with Campbell.

That whoosh over your head was my point. We won't know how anyone will do as the head coach until they do it. My issue is that there is little substance to many of the negative posts. There is reason for optimism with Gase as a Head Coach now. The next two seasons aren't over yet.

For example, one nugget that CK pointed out. Remember the game against Denver last year? Manning audibled into that run that gashed us and ended our chances? Gase was the one that called the audible in to Manning. He was far more envolved with that monster offensive year that Denver had than most here are giving him credit for.

I think that the more that is found out about Gase, the better people will feel. Except those that only feel good when they feel bad. You know who you are.

FWIW, a couple of the more knowledgeable Dolphin fans seem to really like this hire. CK and Boomer (Simon) both have been raving about Gase on twitter for quite a while. I don't remember their opinions on the last few HC hires, but I do remember that CK did not like the Philbin hire. Also saw just now that Ian Wharton does not have a strong opinion on Gase but that he sees him as much better than Philbin.

Then why didn't he stay as Denver's OC? He went on to take a worse OC position?(And do a much worse job) Well then he must have been fired in Denver?

With what Ross is investing in Gase, he will most likely be coach for the next 6 seasons. We better to get used to him, for better or worse.

Agree with this. Respected around the league means nothing but it's the innovative, genius type comments that make me optimistic. I'm far from a fan boy, I think you probably know this. I hated the sparano and Philbin signings. I don't hate this signing. I think Gase has a chance to be good but it'll be up to the front office to give him a legitimate chance to succeed. No hc in the league would win with the offense we have had lately. All I'm saying is I'm willing to give him a chance based on what little I do know as opposed to hating to hire from day 1 like I did the Sparano and Philbin hires.

I'm done getting used to things. The Dolphins have 1 season to at least get back to .500 or I'm finding another team. Football is supposed to be enjoyable. After 20 years the Dolphins have consistently made football miserable for me almost as an annual event.

Some of you guys are so dramatic.
It's the state of any fanbase unless you're the Pats.
People want the best for their team.

Were all on the outside looking in and have to speculate based on info. we see.
Problem is that it has seemed the fan base has had better ideas than the actual franchise when it comes to decisions in recent history.

    We shall see.
As stated before I hope this guy is the real deal.

Which shows how clueless you are in this manner. You'd prefer a te coach who already proved to be in over his head than take a chance on a new guy based on the fact he didn't turn a poor offense into a top unit. You're only as good as the talent around you. You'd be the same guy who would hate Belicheck signing based on cle not winning anything in his time there. So who did u want? You think Coughlin would've had the Bears offense a top 10 unit? Gotten the fins into the postseason this year? Don't even know why I'm wasting my time when you said Gase would get a maximum of 2 yrs. You clearly have no clue. Ross gives everybody 2 yrs more than they deserve and u think Gase will be fired after a season or max of 2 despite a 5-6 yr deal. Just wow bro

Not quite. For instance, Eagles fans wanted Gase and are sad they couldn't get him.

I'm not saying he'll succeed or anything of that sort, but the whining and pessimism going on right now is very stupid.

Neither experience nor lack of it guarantees success. People need to get a grip and let things unfold and THEN pass judgement.
