Nah. I didn't know much of him and so I waited and see that he wasn't the coach for us. Not have a silly hot take of him but keep on going all over this board saying he's a failure with one day on the job and comparing him to Philbin because you know nothing about Gase and won't look up how he's really different from Philbin.
No he just isn't a pessimist. Comparing Philbin to Gase is idiotic at best. You have made no effort to read up and be objective. You are a troll.
Okay, so you're basically saying his resume and past accomplishments don't mean anything. How would you go about choosing a Head Coach then? What would your criteria be?
Here is the glaring difference Philbin: Career assistant who no-one EVER considered giving a chance before us. Not considered a football genius, not considered particularly great at much aside from organizing things. Gase: Young up and comer who has been on the radar for a couple years, is considered a high football IQ guy with many coaching strengths. Does that mean Gase is going to be successful? No. He isn't Philbin however, people should take their heads from their asses and stop being lazy with comparisons.
Yeah, I have looked him up and don't see any accomplishments. Peyton Manning would had mabe Philbin look great with the talant that Denver had. You will see when the Dolphins go another 4 years without a playoff game. There were several candidates that were proven.
really like who? Shannan has done nothing without Elway Shula is a failed head coach Coughlin has four straight losing seasons and is 70
I really hope this works out and the Dolphins are in the playoffs again. However, with Ross as the owner and the past results, I have my doubts.
Most of the people who are fighting over this hire are trying to convince the folks who think Gase is already a bust and he's basically Philbin 2.0. We don't know what he can do with running a franchise or being a head coach but in my eyes he has the potential to do it well and he's really more qualified than Philbin, Cameron, and Sparano to do it well imo. But in the end of all of this we just have to wait and see.
In a thread a while back I said I wanted Gase or Campbell...no-one else. So I'm obviously fine with this hire. People are acting like there were coaches available with over 200 wins on their resume, and extreme rebuilding projects that had been successful. The reality any coach we hired was going to have the experience of Gase unless we went with a tired out dinosaur.
What Gase doesn't have is control over the draft or free agency- having control over who comes in the door is way more important that having control over who is shown the door, imo.
I've been a Dolphin fan for longer than most. Just because I'm not a Gase or Philbin fanboy doesn't mean that I'm not.
Sorry but only people who lack linguistic skills have to resort to such extreme name calling. For the record, I believe you are wrong. However I would fully respect your opinion if you had even a drop of tact or class in the ocean that is your self. Unfortunately it seems you'd rather just put everyone who disagrees down...reported.
I have to say something... who on this board has said Gase will be a sure successful head coach like you're saying Gase will be a sure failure of a head coach? Cause FYI defending Gase from blind hate or misguided pessimism about him doesn't make you a fanboy.
No one is saying it does show that. It does show that he can exceed the expectations of the talent level by adapting to that talents skill level. And THAT is an important trait of a HC.
This yr, sure, Ross has went with the experimental HC hire, again, may work out that no one knows. Do think it was not the proper move, to me would have went with a retread simply to offer stability to a moribund franchise.
VERY interesting! I guess we should compare Carr's future progress with Tannehill's to better judge Philbin (won't change my mind about him being a bad coach but if he got the QB evaluation right that says a lot). The article below the one you quoted is also interesting given the discussions here about Gase's role with Manning. It says this: "Manning also shared that the offense the Broncos ran when Gase was there was primarily his offense." Anyway, I think it's unjustified to dismiss Gase before giving him a fair shot, especially given how much of a crapshoot finding a good HC is. But it's a stretch to say Gase was a major reason for Manning's better stats in Denver. Manning is IMO the closest we've seen to a QB that is his own OC. Also wouldn't explain why the record-breaking stats occurred only during the first year Gase was an OC there and not the 2nd (where he performed similarly to the first year he was at Denver where Gase was not the OC).
There's no stability because there is no patience. No one is gonna be given the time to create stability in the long term.
Hey we finally are agreeing with something. Cut players, clear cap and let Gase run it his way. And let that build for a few years.
How is that disingenuous? Lol... I'm not high on the Gase hire either, but I'm not going to hope my team crashes and burns because of it. I'd rather be wrong about Gase... naturally. I'd rather be wrong about Tannehill too. But he's not clutch, nor will he ever be as far as I can tell. But damn I'd be glad if he turned into a pro bowler next season by some miracle.
Not thrilled with the Gase hire. I really wanted a veteran coach to come in and not have to learn 'on the job' as Gase will do. There are a thousand little and big decisions that a head coach has to deal with, that Gase will be learning. Does he already know how to manage the clock at the end of games? Or will he make snap decisions in the moment? Will he allow gum wrappers on the field? We just don't know yet. That said, I will be hopeful. He certainly seems more qualified than Philbin or Sparano (faint praise I know) but the learning curve is there, so 2016 is probably another 8-8 type season. That is depressing.
I dunno if it was just a poor choice of words but why would you want to stabilise a moribund franchise? Surely you want to spark life in to it? I'd rather swing at a 5 year project with a 38 year old than a 70 year old on a retirement plan. If both work out then who are you gonna get more from?
All you've done for the past 24 hours is whine and moan and slate Gase with absolutely zero evidence. Don't pretend you haven't made your mind up already. I've seen your posts all across the threads. You've already decided this is a failure. You've no interest in giving him time. You even stated he had a year or you were going to find a new team. Don't take the year. Go now. There is 31 others out there desperate for your fandom. Don't pretend you are gonna give him any form of chance. Be more honest.
Someone needs to give these potential coaches jobs or they'll all just stay as potential coaches. You ever applied for a job and been told you needed experience? Bet you walked out of the interview cursing the firm cos of their cowardice. Wondering how you were gonna get experience without someone giving you a job. I'd rather someone with his references learned with us than with someone else.
