Bringing up Russell Wilson in a Ryan Tannehill thread is an implicit comparison.

Beyond that, there were many claiming Ryan Tannehill was a better QB than Wilson. Those claims are far less common now, but they were plentiful before the season began.

Actually, I brought it up in response to someone talking about 4th quarter comebacks. It's completely reasonable when discussing 4th quarter comebacks, to discuss the one that had just happened that day.

But, but, but, but his defense let him down in the 4th quarter allowing the Vikings to drive downfield and attempt what was close to a chip shot FG!

I think we all remember that. So if Philbin was so disenchanted with RT by 2014 why didn't our esteem media pick up on it and write this story then? That's what intrigues me about this story, why now and who is deep throat. There is probably some elements of truth to the story but there also seems to be a bit of a zig-zagging bullet as well.

There was no way they'd report that then. It would have caused mass chaos.

The defense was considered the strongest element of the Patriots in the early 2000's too, that doesn't mean the people that saw Brady as elite and an integral part of those championships were wrong. The people that turned out to be wrong are the ones that thought he was just another Jordan Speith being carried by a great team.

Anyone who is trying to argue that Speith isn't great right now is clueless about golf.

And trying to compare a player on a football team to a professional golfer is completely irrational.

So you are saying Armando sat on the story because he didn't want to cause waves for the team?

That is my speculation, yes. It wad bad enough as it was with just the mere challenge Philbin presented to Tannehill by not naming him starter in that week 4.

That whole QB situation always seemed very fragile to me based on everything we've come to know.

No offense but I'm not buying that Armando would help cover up any problems on the team. They certainly had no problem raising issues with Philbin not anointing RT the starter. IMO the local media would have been tripping over each other to get it to print.

It's not hate lol...just please stop using Wilson in any context..

Wtf does it mean when one of you all say he had a bad game? What is it your trying to prove as it relates to tannehill..tannehill has not demonstrated the ability to play the position nearly as good as Wilson..there are all kinds of mental and physical limitations your dealing with when it comes to the two...it just makes 0 sense to use Wilson as your subject when he has proven all of your theories wrong..

Did you all say he was overrated yes or no? And do you still believe that?

Did you all say that marshawn lynch was the reason Wilson was successful yes or no?, and do you still believe that?

Did you all say he was not an elite QB? And do you still believe that?

Did you all say that he wasn't that good from the pocket ?, and do you still believe that?

If you believe these things to be true you all are the ones who are the biggest haters? Or the biggest homers, or have no idea what your looking at?

I think I can say that at this point with this dudes accomplishments.

yall need to come clean on the player without caveats or buts, then maybe we could have a normal convo..but some of you all continue to try and find a singular mistake and use it to try and prove your points about tannehill.

Just so there's no misinterpretation when I talk about both RW and Tannehill,

    1) I have NEVER thought Tannehill was in the same class as RW, including today.
    2) I think RW if he continues to play like he has for another 4 or so years should be considered elite. I don't consider him elite yet ONLY because I want to see someone perform at the level he's performed at over a longer period of time where you get natural variation in surrounding casts and competition.
    3) I definitely think swapping RW and Tannehill on their respective teams does NOT produce the same result. However, I don't think the difference is more than 1-2 wins per season in favor of RW whereas it might be more with someone like Brady or Rodgers.

Hopefully that clears things up. If I use a single game as an example regarding RW and Tannehill it's best to take what I'm saying literally and not infer from that some attempt to equate the two unless I say so explicitly.

Yeah I do.. at least you know where I stand. I think longevity is important for calling someone "elite".

Maybe the only exception would've been Marino's record-breaking 2nd year. That was just so out of the ordinary I could accept that. But in general yeah longevity matters.

This year someone in the TDF claimed Wilson would be benched by now if he was drafted by the Dolphins. It is NOT a strawman and is an actual argument posted by many over the past couple years.

We heard it more at the beginning of this year when Wilson was "struggling." Struggling was in quotes because he was still playing at a high level. Then Wilson loses his running backs and goes on an unprecedented tear and those arguments have subsided for now ... maybe forever.

At this point it's inarguable that RW is good, even excellent. But you cannot ignore the fact that he has had every advantage (besides the iffy Oline at times) that a young player could have entering the league.

We witnessed the success and the praise heaped on Mark Sanchez when the Jets surrounded him with a phenomenal OLine, run game, some decent weapons in Keller and Braylon Edwards, a top notch defense and a stable coaching staff who knew their identity.

Ryan Tannehill has NEVER had any semblance of any of that. It's NOT excuses! Until this team gives our young qb a stable situation you all need to stop demanding greatness. RT has already show us his floor and it is pretty fckng impressive.

The only advantage he was afforded was a great defense. His OL has been flat out bad. His WRs have been average at best recently, and were flat out bad before this season. He's proven that almost any RB will succeed next to him.

    WTF ever praised Mark Sanchez?

First, I just said he was good to excellent so don't twist what I am saying.

Secondly, you can't minimize having that run game or THAT defense behind him, especially when being newly developed. Go ahead and try but I will not take you seriously if you do.

And don't minimize Lynch by saying any RB looks good next to Wilson. I appreciate Wilson but that's ridiculous to say after half a year....

Who praised Mark Sanchez? Pretty much everyone around the NFL and media. The Jets certainly thought they had their guy. Sanchez DID do well when surrounded by that situation. When the pieces around him fell apart you saw Mark Sanchez with all his limitations.

There were people on this very board who praised him.

We all know Ryan has limitations but we have yet to see what he can do with a stable team around him.

Dude, you might want to relax a little. LOL

Sarcasm? Yes, I suppose it's a little sarcastic, because chucking it down to a guy without a defender within like 10 or 15 yards of him isn't exactly hard. I'm impressed he got back to the ball, and was able to pick it up without simply falling on it. But, let's not get crazy about the actual throw.

I don't "hate" Wilson. I'm also not too blind to see that Wilson had the benefit of a coaching staff that schemed and called plays to his strengths, gave him a stout running game, AND gave him the best defense in the league for four years running. Those are not knocks on Wilson. Those are not me saying that Wilson isn't good. You're asking me to admit I was wrong about Wilson when I've never said that Wilson wasn't good. I've said that, at this point, I don't think Wilson should be in the elite category. I've said all along that Wilson has elite escapability.

You, however, simply refuse to ever acknowledge that Wilson was put into a much, much better situation, over all, than Ryan Tannehill. There is no denying that the Seahawks defense has had a massive impact on the way games play out for Wilson and the Seahawks.

That and Carr had a better rookie year than Tannehill. 9 more TD passes and better QBR. And he also plays for a struggling team. That's what a find funny about his post. The rookie year he is trying to take a dump on was better than what his guy Tannehill did.

Forget Wilson, cause you guys literally just shut down when his name is brought up.

    Let's say there's QB X & QB Y.

QB X has won numerous SBs on a team with a great defense.
QB Y has not won much of anything, and his team has a crap defense.

So, QB X has a horrible game and only leads his offense to 10 pts, but his defense holds the other team to 6 points.
QB Y has a great game and leads his offense to 26 points but his defense allowed the other team to score 30 points.

People will say QB X fought out a tough win and QB Y couldn't get enough points to win.

    That's wrong and not fair.

    That is the point.

I don't think you understand the skill it took to make this play. Yes, the defense didn't stick to their assignments because 99 out 100 QBs don't recover this fumble. So you go after the ball. The fact that he got to the ball, recovered it, scrambled to get away from 5+ rushers, find the open guy and hit him, is beyond anything Tannehill has even thought about, much less done, in the NFL.

#24 is a CB too who ran a 4.41. Not a heavy offensive lineman tired from running.

Minor point but the bold part I disagree with. I think the great majority of QB's recover that. However, I think 99 out of 100 that do recover it will just fall on it and take the loss. RW is absolutely impressive with what he does after the recovery, but not the recovery itself.

    Like I said.. minor point.

Y'all must be good at predictions and betting... knowing what someone would do in a situation they haven't been in before.

Maybe the ball would have bounced right up to Tannehill too... and then he completes a long pass to Landry. I don't have a shred of doubt about it. Of course we will probably never know.

I misspoke. I meant recover it while being able to try and throw it. Yeah a lot of QBs will get to it and fall on it, without kicking it away.

But I meant to slide beside the ball, pick it up and be able to see downfield like that, is amazing. The recovery is amazing because he slide beside the ball, not just on it to prevent a fumble lost.

RW never thought about just securing that ball. he was going to pick it up and throw all the way. See how he runs past the ball and slides to be in position to see downfield. That's what I'm getting at.

He's looking to make a play because he's exactly that - a PLAYMAKER. Not to mention probably has nerves of steal with the way he consistently produces plays like that.

With what we've seen from Tanny in his tenure is his safety at all costs, low-risk kind of decision making.

Well, the other side to this coin, is that guys are coached to fall on that ball. If Wilson had not been able to control it, because he didn't fall on it, and the Vikings had recovered, everyone would be talking about how Wilson should have just fallen on it. So, while it worked out for him this time, it's probably not exactly what most coaches want to see. They want guys to secure the ball.

Regardless, I SAID THE RECOVERY WAS IMPRESSIVE. I said the throw wasn't that hard.
