It's not just "prerogative", it's the culture that's been established.

As far as your not understanding, that's fine - more power to you if you like to bury your head in the sand based on clearly what you think is real fanhood.

The search started with a large pool of candidates from both the pros and college, and they whittled it down over the months to who they really wanted to interview, and from that bunch Gase was chosen. Coughlin was looked at but they decided he didn't have a good year last year, and didn't want to have a 3 year stopgap.

I love the Miami Dolphins, and always will, and the point of being a sports fan is to take joy when they do well. It shouldn't ever be a drain, or a burden. I also feel firmly that with the right moves and some luck, that any of the 32 franchises could become a champion in just a few years.

..... and there's nothing wrong with your approach. Yet, we're all different in that regard.

I do agree that with how the NFL is today, turnaround stories don't take quite as long.

The thing is, at the end of the day, he's not a good writer. I like Dave Hyde at the Sun Sentinel, but Omar Kelly is a reason not to go to their site or buy their paper. His prose is weak and his opinions, like Armando's, are not terribly compelling. Both pale in comparison to Hyde, and the hands down best Dolphins writer in soFla is Barry Jackson at the Miami Herald with his Sports Buzz column. No one better, not even close. Omar somehow thinks that being rude, opinionated and controversial makes him relevant and a good writer. All they make him is a jerk. If he wants to leave, then please leave and let a real sports journalist take his place. Turning himself into an a** clown isn't driving me to the Sun Sentinel website, not one bit. They haven't been the same since Bernie Lincicome bolted town decades ago anyway.

People who have a mostly negative cognitive bias will always, always seem to hold the correct path in evaluation and prediction. There are only 53 out of 90+ that make the active roster. There are 22 starters of those with role-players as relief or situational play. There are 12 teams that make the playoffs and 4 or more back in or are otherwise helped by scheduling. 4 are eliminated the first week, down to 2 in the SB and one Champion. Each of these losers can reward those with a negative bias as winners, so when the team loses in their warped mind they win. And if we learned anything from Charlie Sheen, winning is good. When a coach fails, or a player doesn't play at elite levels, the naybobs win. The catch is that they are really fans of the team, so if the team does overcome the odds and make the playoffs and even a SB, well the naybobs are there with their team, winning. So in reality having a negative cognitive bias is the easy road to winning.

Maybe I'm wrong, but Omar never seems to break any news.

Supposedly he's tight with some players. And obviously he's tight with Mouth of the South Miko Grimes. Then again, she's also a "journalist" (her words) so she probably keeps the scoop for herself.

He's been there awhile, I just wonder if that's the extent of it. Dave Hyde, Armando, Beasley, Barry Jackson.... they all break stuff. Even Lebatard still breaks things occasionally, tho he's much more plugged in with the Heat the last several years.

These guys write 10% of the dirt they actually see and hear. So perhaps that's all Omar gets?

This is exactly on point. I've noticed over the years and coaching changes, draft, FA, and team issues (bully gate, fired coaches etc...) Omar and his ilk can do no more than comment on stuff the national guys report. Absolutely never, ever have they done any actual journalistic work. Specifically with Omar you'll pick up that disgruntled players or their family will communicate to him. His reporting will always be tinged with vague animosity and innuendo and will also be invariably incorrect (though the hate IS real). Which is probably why he has become so popular, which proves the proverb true
