You wonder if I'm stupid, but you can't tell the difference between a question and a statement. Interesting.
With the players her boss has gotten her to sign, she did a really good job of minimizing the effect of their really bad job of choosing players. It is IMPOSSIBLE to sign a high priced player and not have dead money. No player who has a high market value is going to take a contract with no guaranteed money.
Yes it is. I wanted ireland to get 3 years before we judged him. In the end, he was a decent talent evaluator and poor team builder. That wasn't wrong. I defended Philbin which was stupid and have admitted numerous times. Other than that, I was against Parcells, Sparano and his entire staff. I wanted Coyle, Lazor gone. I'm glad Campbell is gone as he is extremely overrated by this fanbase. I've been indifferent on Hickey and Tbaum. I don't dislike the Gase hire, but I clearly would have preferred Shula and I would have preferred Shanahan. But one of us has a real rep for being on the extreme end of the scale and it ain't me, Sport. That's not true.
Who cares? Why do you? There's no report it even came to that. All that's out there is Marvez retracting his original report it was happening. Looks more like he got a bad bit of leaked info, probably on purpose. Carry on..
. Is it the cap situation which will be fine this year but a mess in '17? I don't know. I do know Ross has a history of throwing money at problems. Gace made the comment in interviews that one of the main reasons he came here was because of the front office. Knowing history of the alignment of power previously to oust Ireland is she now unhappy with Tannenbaum. He obviously is in charge and the real GM. She reports to him???? Sure I care. There is something going on. You don't just interview for another job unless you don't like your current one She did interview in Detroit and yes she was going to leave. After "mulling it over" she decided to stay. You don't honestly believe conversations were not had during that time with Ross and Tannenbaum ?? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/01/28/new-report-aponte-staying-with-dolphins/ Carry on Soldier...........
I have absolutely no clue what input Aponte can have, she seems to be pretty high up in the FO, but can she say to anyone "we can't afford Suh, yes I could get him under the cap, but it will screw our cap up in the future." Do they even ask her, can she make suggestions? I have no clue, but I do know that they can override her even if she did, so the lousy FA hirings this team has made can't be pinned on her, the Fins had the most dead money in the league last year, but that's because of all the bad FAs that were hired, and overpaid, and then had to be cut. I think Aponte is just doing what she's told, so I don't think she can be blamed, it's the GMs and probably owner that have made the mistakes that have led us here.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It really wont matter, either way. She will be the escape goat at some point. Obviously she is unhappy or she wouldnt have interviewed in Detroit.
Those penalties don't look to have affected the Broncos much as they won 2 superbowls. "In the 1990s, the Broncos won Super Bowl trophies in 1997 and 1998 with the assistance of salary-cap violations from 1996 through 1998. Denver eventually lost a third-round pick, paid a whopping $950,000 fine, and a still-unnamed agent and a player donated $100,000 to charity."
It really begs to ask what does she really do? If she is just doing what she is told many could do that.
That is the question, right? Is she unhappy because she had a powerful position that now with the addition of Tannenbaum has been neutralized? Nothing wrong with wanting to be listened to, however if this is the case it could be the reason she interviewed in Detroit. Maybe it was a message to Ross and Tannenbaum. I guess the real test of her abilities comes in the next 2 years. We will see soon enough. I hope it doesn't come down to Gace being the chef and not being able to pick the groceries. Because if it does it certainly will undermine his potential success. We already know Philbin wanted to replace Tannehill and there are reports of Saban wanting Brees instead of Culpepper.
She is the teams mathematician, and yes, I think any number of math centric persons could do the job, like Brad for instance, but the same could be said of many jobs within the organization, but if you have someone that does the job well, without mistakes, you hang on to that person if you can.
I don't believe that. He overrode the medical staff when they didn't endorse Jason Allen after his hip dislocation. Told them if they pass on him and he tears it up for another team, that heads will be rolling all over Davie.
Story updated. She is not leaving. Marvez stated on twitter he was mistaken. Thread title has been changed
People see the same reports you see, and it's been reported multiple times she has stabbeb more than one GM in the back. It has nothing to do with sex. if it were a guy, he'd be a back stabber too. It's been my experience sexist call out sexism first just a racist call out racism first...it's what they always look for first in every argument. Every team has dead money.
Who did she stab in the back? There was a power struggle and she chose a side. That is pretty normal in businesses. I also disagree that it has nothing to do with sex. I do not believe she would be talked about 1/10th of the time she is if she was a man. I also love your turn around that it is the racists who call out racism. Like the poor lady in my hometown who owns a cosignment store that a person dropped off a KKK hood in their box is a racist because she called out racism?
Seriously you are really saying this in a thread about a story written then retracted due to it being inaccurate ? The irony lol.
I actually agree with a lot of this except for the Parcells/Sparano part. I thought those guys had a decent chance of turning things around and they crashed and burned.
She didn't just choose a side, she snitched out Ireland to Philbin. She also attempted to stab Philbin in the back last year as well.
Stab in the back? She made good business decisions and backed the right horse. Ireland and Philbin were having problems, she isn't the cause.
Generally my experience in corporate life has been that people who get involved in power struggles do so because they are more interested in their own benefits than the good of the organization. However, in this case (1) Ireland was backstabbing Philbin, so she should have gone to Philbin considering the power structure at the time. The fact that Philbin and Ireland carried on like middle school girls doesn't negate that Dawn did the appropriate thing in the situation. And on a scale of who was worse Philbin, or Ireland I`d say Ireland was worse. (2) Philbin getting axed was Tbaums job, and Dawn didn`t do anything to cause that to happen. Getting rid of Philbin was long overdue and was plain to the fanbase long before the axe fell. The real problem is that Ross is an absentee owner, and in power vacuums people play politics all the time because their ineterests are what is best for themselves, not what is best for the organization.
What was retracted is she is leaving. She did in fact interview in Detroit. Was going to leave. Thought about it for 3 days and changed her
It is. People in NFL teams get criticized. It comes with the territory. Trying to say it's sexism in this case because it's a woman is you being sexist.
No. Men in the NFL get criticized for their performance. They criticize men on personality when we have actual examples of that person being a problem. She's being criticized for things all women with power get accused of. I'm sure its a merely a coincidence in your mind. Again, none of you know the first damn thing about her or if the power struggles that happened are typical in the NFL, but you pass judgements that you wouldn't pass on men.
Byroan is absolutely correct. She has done an exceptional job of creating team friendly deals. The problem is the powers-that-be have consistently misevaluated talent. Think about it this way: If our free agent signings/draft picks were constantly hitting, we would have a pretty solid team right now with a certain degree of wiggle room in free agency this year. The problem is, the personnel department has been horrendous at evaluating talent, and it is making her look foolish. As for he jockeying position to keep her job, I am fairly empathetic towards her. I think that it is human instinct to want to keep your job. Working for the Dolphins has to be 'complicated' to say the least. On one hand, I suspect that being an employee for Stephen Ross has its perks. The man certainly is loyal, and unfortunately for us, he is loyal to a fault. History shows that he should have pulled the plug on Ireland and Philbin much sooner than what he did. On the other hand, organizationally, the team has been in disfunction for some time. I think that many employees likely find themselves in a precarious situation. In a sense, you are working for the people who are currently employed by the Miami Dolphins, but in another sense, you have to be keenly aware of the fact you may be working for someone else fairly soon. Like anyone in her situation, I suspect she was trying to read the inner office tea leaves and was trying to align herself with her next boss instead of her current boss. I think if most of us were in her situation, we would do the same thing.
