Celtics Twitter told me they were getting Boogie, Love, Griffin, and KD for a 3rd round pick - tho Celtics fans think that's too much to give up for those guys - can you confirm?

Can't say I watch enough Kings to have any worthwhile opinion on Casspi. Whenever I see SAC I just marvel at Boogie. Does Casspi play any defense? I guess TJ is being mentioned in the possible exchange?

Deng and Whiteside iffy tonight. Spurs will be missing Duncan, Bonner, Ginobli. Maybe McBob, who is supposedly healthy, will actually see the floor tonight...?

I imagine Kawhi will be guarding Wade. Going to need a HUGE game from Dragic, which is do-able against Parker.

The way the Clippers were able to defend us on Sunday isn't leaving me much optimism for this one. Spurs halfcourt D is...good. Two of the best halfcourt defenses going against two offenses who are near the bottom in pace. O/U at 196.

Can't even see this game being useful as a barometer of where the Heat are at. This is going to be painful.

Am I the only one that thinks TJ for Casspi is a no-brainer? There's people on twitter that don't want to give TJ up. That's crazy to me.

I think he's been looking for a reason to fire Fisher ever since that Matt Barnes episode, that certainly wasn't a good look for a coach. I think it hurt him with the players. Phil might have to accept that the really good young coaches are not going to be that much in love with the Triangle.

Yep i too think players lost respect for Fisher ever since that Matt Barnes thing. You just dont do that, it is one thing if two people are fighting over some girl they met at a club or something.. This is Matt Barnes' ex wife mother of his two kids, girlfriend (albeit ex) since middle school.

Very different players. I guess it depends on how strongly you feel we need a backup PG.

Casspi is a much better player but I guess people might like the potential, underdog story, and spunk of Tyler.

We do, but it's more than that. Effort and execution are problems for this team. The Spurs were off and the Heat didn't take advantage. They didn't box out, they didn't hustle to the ball, and they didn't play smart.

That was sort of encouraging...in some weird ways...but also really depressing, lol. Gave up 119 to an opponent that isn't at full strength.

Spurs are really good, they're just better, it is what it is. Kawhi and LMA are fantastic basketball players. But man would I love to see some of their bench/role guys in a Heat uniform. Patty Mills, Danny Green, this Simmons kid, heck give me Boris Diaw. Those guys would make a big difference for us, imo. They've got a lot of guys who can really play. I do look forward to any series they get with OKC or GSW.

Lots to work on over this long break now...

All is good in the Hood.

The #5 seed at the all-star break, only 1.5 games from the #3 seed. Some important games coming up after the break. Riley sprinkles some fairy dust on the roster, and we will be looking good.

I can't wait to play Boston. That team is chock FULL of players you just want to punch in the face.

Right now the Heat are just another playoff team, they are very far away from the Cavs, Spurs and Warriors. Granted so is everyone else but they aren't winning a title or even seriously competing for one with this roster.

I agree that we are far away from the Spurs and Warriors, but I don't view the Cavs that highly. Lebron is obviously capable of great games so the Cavs can beat anybody, but I don't think he can do it often enough nor is the rest of the team consistent enough to be seen in the same class as the Spurs and Warriors. I wouldn't even find it all that shocking for a healthy Miami to beat the Cavs in a 7 game series. I wouldn't call it likely. The Cavs are clearly the better team, but if Miami had a couple of hot shooting nights in the series, I could see them pulling it off. I don't believe that Miami would stand a chance against the Spurs or Warriors even if Miami had a couple of hot shooting nights.

I feel like we're close, though. If we can get a shooter, I like our chances a lot to make the ECF at least. Though like Raf said, I don't think we would have much of a chance vs GSW, SAS, or even OKC.

With the break and deadline, this is the time people want to draw up crazy trade scenarios. But I don't think we need that at the moment. A little more space on the floor could really work some wonders for our offensive struggles, particularly for the Wade-Dragic combo. We have lots of individual talent; it's just flawed as a whole. But it's fix-able. A piece who can stretch the floor could help unlock the potential here.

Unless we can land Boogie, of course. In which case...DO IT.

They're just another playoff team that has two legit offensive closers and three legit defensive closers. That's important in a playoff setting.

Nobody is shaking their fist at Golden State, with any seriousness. Not even Cleveland IMO.

The GOAL was to make the ECF's and threaten the Cavs a little. I said I would be very happy with a 4-2 series loss in the ECF's. We'll worry about contending for a title next year.

Spent 20 minutes trying to convince myself that losing Ezeli was going to make them vulnerable, but couldn't do it.

Then realized his injury likely makes his extension cheaper which gives them more flexibility to sign Durant or do whatever else that'll make the NBA boring for the next 3 years.

    - Knicks had requested a meeting with Heat Top Assistant David Fizdale, way back when before they hired Mike Woodson. Heat, along with the blessing of Fizdale had told suitors that he was not interested/ready for a HC Job at that time. The Knicks will have a broad search this time, and I think his name comes up again.

    - Pat Riley has a soft spot for Carmelo Anthony, and Erik Spoelstra's offense can suit him as well. Till this day, Riley has never made an attempt to trade for him, but I am sure he will make a call this time around.

    - Justise Winslow would be traded ONLY if it nets a Great player with a long term deal. DeMarcus Cousins fits this bill. The Kings have turned down at least 4 attempts this season from teams that have made an offer for him.

    - Heat have no interest whatsoever in any Laker pieces, But the Lakers are enamored with Hassan Whiteside. Riley has a great relationship with them, but I don;t see how a deal gets done unless a third team is involved.

    - The only true untouchable players on the team are Wade and Bosh. The League as a whole knows this.

    - Wade essentially has a deal worth in the neighborhood of $40mil for 3 years waiting for him at seasons end. The number will be attractive to the Heat, because Wade gets LARGE built in bonuses activated with his LiNing contract if he plays 3 more seasons. That LiNing contract was investigated at the behest of Dan Gilbert (Yes, you read that right), due to Micky Arison's connections to the company. The NBA found no breach of the CBA in their investigation, and Gilbert was sent a formal detailed findings report. This occurred in September of 13'.

    - Cavs and Heat will go to war over Joe Johnson if he is bought out (likely). This is sad as well as intriguing.

    - For you Knicks fans, I have heard that Mike Conley and Al Horford are guys that Phil Jackson would be "In" on. Heat would have a ton of interest in Horford as well.

    - Cavs have called all over the league for a 3 and D SF. I think their best bet is Marvin Williams. Cavs have the assets to pawn off for minor pieces such as that. They will get "their man" at the deadline. Now..."their man", might not be so great...but it should improve their rotation....some.

    - Heat is feverishly working phones to dump Birdman's and McBob's contract in every deal they negotiate.

Thanks for posting that - some really interesting stuff. I imagine a package for Demarcus would have to involve Whiteside and Winslow. I love Whiteside but COusins alongside Wade and Bosh would be incredible. Still hoping we get a shooter sooner than later. This team can't shoot for ****.

I can almost guarantee that a DMac deal will also include Goran Dragic as well.

Heat have invested too much into 16' to be left out of Serious Free Agent contention. So it would be HW, Winslow, Dragic, for DMac, and probably Rondo, who they will pawn off to somebody else for space.

I wouldn't even hesitate pulling the trigger on that deal. I believe Rondo is expiring which also adds to his value (may be mistaken). Would be interesting to see who we'd pursue in FA next offseason to run the point. With DMC, Wade, and Bosh you really just need someone who can facilitate. There are a lot of pretty decent PGs that will be available, though Rondo and Conley are likely the top 2 (http://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/point-guard/). I believe Deron Williams also has a player option too. These scenarios are fun....

    Awesome stuff, as always.

I'm hoping Melo does not qualify as a player they'd move Winslow for. I know Riley wants to win now, but I'm not sure Melo puts you over the hump enough to completely mortgage the future for. That would put your window at probably 1-2 years and unless they pull off some other big move, I don't think Wade, Bosh, and Melo alone get it done in that window.

I wonder what kind of other big names they'd dangle Winslow for. I would really hope they hold onto him unless the offer is just too good to pass up. His potential is massive and could be the key piece in the next rebuild a couple years from now.

The name I'd be trying to do everything to get would be Westbrook. I know it's unlikely, but would the Thunder go all out to try and build a team that fits Durant to make a run and try to keep him? This might be the Heat's best effort:

I'd sub Waiters for Morrow. I also don't think OKC would eat $7 million in space just because. There would probably need to be a third team to move Deng to.

That isn't to say I think this is a possibility in hell. If they trade Westbrook, Durant is almost guaranteed to leave. He got to the Finals with him, no way he looks at that as a good move.

It didn't work with Morrow. I tried. Deng is an expiring deal, so I didn't think it would matter to OKC.

I don't think it's realistic at all either, but they actually might have a better chance at making a run with that unit than what they currently have. Dragic would be an excellent fit on that team, and Whiteside would give them a very good center off the bench. Deng and Winslow would make them a better defensive team. Then there's the added incentive of having Winslow long term obviously, whereas Westbrook could be gone two summers from now.
