I agree. I think he was getting a bit overhyped because of what he did last year but I think he'll end up being a good/solid player.
Apparently, Cliff Lee, who hasn't pitched in the last year and a half and is 37 years old, is only willing to sign for 6-8 mil guaranteed and no one is interested in that. Sounds to me like he's not all that interested in playing again, because if he were being realistic, he'd take a minor league deal with incentives should he make a MLB roster. No way a team takes that kind of risk.
6-8 million a year, is ridiculous. Had he said something like 2-3 million I can see teams lining up taking a chance.. but not at that price.
Where would Bruce play? Plus the last two years he's a .222/.288/.406/.695 with an OPS+ of 90 in 1194 PA. No thanks.
My guess? LF. Its not like the Red Sox have much faith in Castillo or heck Bradley for that matter. Lets face it this late in the offseason there wont be a perfect match. Why the Reds are not waiting for the trade deadline is beyond me.
Both are part of their starting OF, along with Betts, I wouldn't say the Sox don't have faith in them. They're just kind of a question mark right now as to what type of players they are. It's not like Bruce would be that much of an upgrade, if at all. Reds are probably just trying to save money at this point.
Could be i mean they did mention the Angels giving up prospects towards the deal..... And there farm system is pathetic.
Yeah, Bruce's trade value is next to nothing and the Reds just want to wipe the 25 plus million from their books.
Lol The redsox absolutely must have confidence in Bradley because Bradleys confidence the last two months went up and he started producing.
No, it has nothing to do with that.....as stated by Commish Office, regardless of LAW or COURTROOM we as MLB have the incentive and right to punish anyone affiliated with the league/game (based on the behavior) that embarrasses MLB off the field. Everything from temporary leave suspensions to permanent bans. We see this in all aspects of PROFESSIONAL SPORTS more and more, where the image of the league is as important when it comes to the STATS put up during game action, and actually in many ways what could be viewed as more important is the OFF FIELD actions and embarrassing situations. Its not waiting for the courts anymore...its establishing control based on the situation and events that are in the control of the player at all times. Act a fool, be a fool...Act with class, be class! And all fans should be fine with that....play the game the right way, and act the right way on and off the field!
Yeah, there are plenty of times that a person who everyone knows is factually guilty isn't convicted of anything. I'm glad that the leagues have some power to at least hit those guys in the wallet.
Agree completely. Glad the MLB acted somewhat quickly and laid down a solid punishment, hopefully it sends a message to other players so they will think more in the future. Jose Reyes is up next.
About one more month until the Mets begin their road to winning the World Series. Thor, deGrom, Harvey, Matz, Colon, Wheeler. I can't wait!
And we get Montero back. Dont be surprised if he wins some kind of role. And another year or so until Amed Rosario and/or Cecchini is ready! Maybe, just maybe, TDA will actually catch 125 games behind the plate and Wright can play 130 at 3B.
I'm not sure Wright will be able to play that many games, especially if we're on a path to making the playoffs, you'd want to give him rest as much as you can. Thankfully, I believe Wilmer Flores can fill in anywhere along the infield, especially at 3rd. As for d'Arnaud, yeah, he's developed the stigma of being injury prone, unfortunately. Hopefully he has better luck this year. I think Michael Conforto is going to break out this season. I can see him putting up some really good numbers, especially with guys like Duda and Cespedes hitting in front of him. He should have a lot of opportunities to drive in runs.
Funny thing is, we were DOMINATED by the NL Central last season. Completely wrecked. Until we met the Cubs in the NLCS and made them look like little leaguers.
Yeah, first season sweep by the Cubs of the Mets ever. Then our bats fell asleep in the NLCS. Hopefully with Heyward and Zobrist on board, and with everyone having more experience, things can be different this time. Still, last year was the best year for the Cubs in decades, so I'm not complaining.
You guys have a really good, young team. A lot of fire power on offense, and I think Joe Maddon is one of the best managers in the game. You should be excited for what the future holds.
http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/which-locations-make-the-most-sense-for-mlb-expansion-022816 Article about potential MLB expansion over the next decade. I found it interesting, and agree that Montreal is probably going to be the first city to get another team, be it expansion of moving the Rays there and rebranding them to the Expos. However, I don't really see the rest of their list as likely. I think that Vancouver, despite being a very large city, is pretty much Marniers territory, and they aren't overflowing with fans as it is. I don't like Austin, since Texas already has two teams, and the idea of a team in Mexico or Latin America seems to have tons of holes due to travel, economics, and safety. I think that their other suggestions of Charlotte and Nashville are both feasable, though you run into the issue of both areas being full of Braves fans. I'm not sure why Portland, the 19th biggest market in the US was left off. It seems like a great candidate. And before the Nationals moved to DC, the southeastern Virginia area was talked about. Between Virginia Beach/Norfolk (1.8 million #37), and Richmond (1.2 million #49), if you were to build a stadium around Williamsburg, you'd have around 3 million people within about an hour's drive, which is similar to St Louis, San Diego, Tampa, Pittsburgh or Denver.
Population-wise, Texas can support 3 maybe 4 teams quite easily. San Antonio seems more logical than Austin though. We have lots of transplants (like Florida) here, versus more homegrown in SA. Plus, SA also has experience with pro teams in the Spurs. A SA team can draw fans from Austin pretty easily. However, all 4 big Texas cities will likely be top 10 cities in the nation next census.
