Dude, we had Thurman Freaking Thomas on the squad! One of my least favourites of all time. But with the player movement you gotta grin and bear it. Once he throws his first 2 min drill TD to win a game, most everyone will love him to pieces.

And to be honest, if healthy, Pennington is a quality QB who can help groom our young'uns. Seriously, would you rather have McCown as the veteran teacher for Beck/Henne, or Pennington? I know my answer.

I for one, am a fan of this potential deal, assuming the cap hit isn't to bad (not sure there).

Better than McCown in terms of leadership, which is something we need.

Still would make me sick seeing noodlearm in a Fins uni.

it's not just 2.5M... according to the latest figures, McCown's 2008 cap hit is $3.25M (not sure if that includes the signing bonuses paid out - even for the second year in advance?)

    http://www.sportscity.com/NFL/Miami-Dolphins-Salaries

i don't see us cutting a guy we just paid $3.25M or more to without playing a snap for us, do you guys?

There is -0- chance that we would cut John Beck, he has trade value at the very least, and even then, Beck's potential vs McCown's 6 million?

That would be the decision, I think if CP comes in, Henne and Beck duel it out for who is #2 Qb.

Only if Pennington will start, think of it as swapping 3.25 million for Pennington.

If CP is our Starting Qb, that would easily be worth it.

its not "swapping" because we've already paid McCown.

not to mention pennington will command a higher salary than McCown.
his salary in 2007 was $4M all said & done. i'm guessing he would require that much (if not more).

you guys are also forgetting he won't hit the waiver wire, so its not a "first dibs" thing. there will most surely be a bidding war for his services. you guys think we're going to offer serious dough to this guy? like MORE than $4M/year? i'm sure there are other teams that would offer more.

He had a higher YPC average then strong armed Cleo Lemon.

He is smart, knows the offense, has no injuries, and he has won more games then any other Qb on our roster.

I'm all for it...just as long as the contract is short. 2 years, maybe a 3rd option year, but that's max.

Henne is the long term solution but I don't feel throwing him behind the not so good pass blocking this line has been providing would be beneficial at this point. Once they have gelled and the depth has been set then we can turn to the future.

Same thing I am trying to figure out. We'll settle for a fifteen yard curl and then let Ginn attempt to take it to the house. We'll call that our own little grand slam.

    A) we haven't had them yet anyway, who's to say we'd have them this year
    B) Pennington HAS thrown deeper balls and HAS beaten us before with said deep balls.

his arm strength isn't the best, but he's done it before. and frankly, that's that many more times than any of our other QBs have done it.

the last successful deep ball any QB has thrown for a TD here was Sage Rosenfels against the ravens to Chris Chambers, last game of the year in what... 2006?

YAC, Ginn will have to make do with running after the catch, that is where his kick returning background would come into play.

    haha, sorry i should elaborate.

i would love to bring pennington here. i think he isn't the answer, but he's a better option than the vet we have now.

that said, given our situation, the $$ involved, and the FA play that pennington will get, i don't see him coming here. better? :)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. It should help that he has built up more upper body strength now.

Exactly. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I read somewhere that we are in danger of NOT meeting the required Cap expenditure. In other words, we have TOO MUCH Cap space left for this year! Per rule, we're required to spend at least 80% of the Cap limit, and I believe we're a bit under that, I may be wrong, but that's just what I remember reading from somewhere. If anyone else is more up on our Cap situation, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Pennington is not the answer to a our Franchise QB, but he would give us the best chance to Win. Something I think none of our QBs have right now.

Yeah, I'm in agreement... I want either Beck or Henne to win the job...but if not, Pennington is a good plan B...kind of hedging my bets... some people call if fence sitting... i prefer to call it, thinking outside the box... :pointlol:

in my eyes camp is the one place you shouldn't see dropped balls(atleast not as many as we are seeing). theres no real pressure whatsoever right now in camp. and with all the talk of how accurate john beck is plus add the comments sporano said about most of these recievers catching balls since they were 6.

when you are a "professional" reciever drops shouldn't be allowed anywhere period. does it happen yes but not as consistantly as i've read but yes you are correct i really can't make that statement not only because it is still camp but also because i have not been to camp and can't see all the factors that are going into the drops. so far it seems a lack of concentration and mental errors by the recievers.

It really wouldnt be an even swap, it would be double. Wed still be on the hook for McCown, while still paying Pennington. Pennington would get somewhere around 4-5 mil i would think.. So wed be on the hook for roughly 8 mil at 1 position... Unless of course Chad played for us for free  the you could consider it a swap

More along the lines of we paid 3 million to bring Pennington in, then we would have to sign him.

8 million for 1 position? We are far under the cap, so far under we need to spend money to reach the league minimum...live a little...
