Barry Jackson said that the Dolphins believe they don't need a starting OT, and I tend to believe him.

I'm personally of the opinion that you should be working out a replacement for Branden Albert ASAP

    Don't like the idea.

Deficiencies on defense far outweigh the need to find a future replacement for Albert. And picking a guard in the first, even one that in the future is our starting OT, isn't as valuable IMO as picking a starting DB or LB.

Kiper will make several selections for your team before the draft hoping you will only remember the right one .:wink2:

Yes, of course. Look what happens when he goes down, which is often. The whole line goes to s--t. I'm not saying to go with Stanley or spend a first on a LT, but it certainly has to be addressed at some point soon.

Why can't we just get some average veterans to start at guard and an average swing tackle? Why is this so hard?

It's been a problem with this franchise for far too long, and for the entire Tannehill/Philbo regime.

There's definitely a couple of FA guards to possibly be had. I assume or hope they are seriously looking into those options.

Can't hate it because Stanley is a very good prospect, and we would be lucky to have him.

Hard to judge the pick when we don't know how the picks in front of them fall.

Kiper almost never takes into account what the team is likely to do with the pick. Just where he feels a player should be taken, and if he makes any sense at all for team X. If he feels strongly that a player should go by a certain point, he'll shoehorn him in there.

If he solidified the Oline I wouldn't mind it. I'd rather we get a stud on defense but our oline is bad enough that spending another high pick to fix it isn't out of the question.

We can't pass up on a potential beast LB or CB imo, you don't have to find stud OL you just need to stop finding garbage ones. Even so, it has been shown how good coaching and scheming can mask an OL.

Impact back 7 defender. Preferably Ramsey.

That's where I'm at now. I would go Ramsey with the first and Noah Spence in the second. Spence's mojo is rising, so that doesn't look likely, but that would be a dream scenario,

I would love for them to sign a FA guard or two like Evans and maybe Reggie Nelson at S. That would be sweet.

I wouldn't hate it considering the state of the Oline, but I'd be far from loving that pick, I'd rather go CB, passrusher or MLB in the first, you can spend the rest of the draft on O, but need to land one big impact D player.

I'm all for fixing one side of the ball for next year, draft 3 OGs between 2nd and 5th rounds, bring in a couple free agents, make the Oline the absolute #1 priority, so that the real absolute #1 priority can be clearly evaluated, Tanne.

If I'm this Dolphins organization, I am dedicated to using this year to get the O fixed so that us as an organization, as well as Tanne, can get the best possible chance to see what he is as a QB, this is the year, this is transitionally important for the franchise, no mucking around, every effort to get the O fixed, with the exception of the afore mentioned 1st round pick.

It would be nice if there was a Patrick Peterson or Darrelle Reevis available at the #8 pick, unfortunately there is nobody even close in this draft. If Stanley is the best player available then you absolutely take him.

If we have a FO that is anywhere near competent there won't be any glaring holes left when the draft comes around, and the Dolphins can draft for the future like successful teams do; instead of drafting out of desperation to fill holes, reaching for a player at a certain position and effing yourself, like they did with Ju'wuan James.

I would be happy with Stanley, but I question if he's deserving of the #8 spot. You definitely want the bpa with such a high pick. Would rather gamble on an OL later on if he truly isn't worthy. Plus, we've got quite a bit of money and draft picks tied up in contracts already on the O-line.

Is there anyone worthy of the eighth spot if Ramsey and Jack are gone?

    What would Jimmy Johnson do?

I agree with your overall sentiment, I just don't think the draft will fix the oline, this year.

I think relying on rookies to play at guard or even swing tackle could be every bit as disastrous as last year or the year before. We need average vet help. That should be plenty to evaluate Thill.

I like the pick. It would definitely solidify our line, and at the same time, give us the foundation for a solid young line.

Next year, our line could be:

    LT - Albert
    LG - ?
    C - Pouncey
    RG - James
    RT - Stanley

Despite what anyone may say about picking Stanley at 8, I think we would all feel much better our line.

Not a fan of picking Staley. As Fin-D and Finster said there are other more pressing needs than OT. We:ve been putting too many picks into the Offensive side of the ball, I don't want another off season where people are seriously discussing which UDFA LBs are going to step up and become stars (note the use of the plural is intentional).

The Dolphins have had a below average offensive line for the past seven years and only a very average OL for at least a decade before that.

So obviously upgrading the OL to simply make it average again isn't as easy for them to do as you seem to think it should be.

They don't have much cap room and the average to better offensive linemen in free agency will probably sign for more money elsewhere.

Defense needs to be their priority in this years draft and I really don't see them being able to upgrade the OL much in this off season. I think they will have to try and be more effective on offense next season through the use of a better scheme. Since I think it will take a few more years before they are able to build a solid offensive line.

Man, we've been rolling with starters who probably wouldn't be in the league if they weren't on the Dolphins. It can't be that hard to find an average olineman to pick up.

No, if he was drafted, it would be...

    LT - Stanley
    LG - Albert
    C - Pouncey
    RG - (battle between Turner/Douglas)
    RT - James

Hargraves is over rated and far too many scouts feel the same and is not worth picking that high.

Dallas going QB would be great for us, that would almost guarantee an impact defender (Bosa, Ramsey, Jack)

heres the thing, whatever is available at 8 are probably all gonna be a bit over drafted because I dont feel the draft is deep, but I do think hargraves, if jack is gone, is better at his position then some guys are at theirs.

Would be nice to address a need for once in the 1st. Still dry heaving over the Jordan pick.

If Kiper says the Dolphins will select Stanley, then the one player who definitely won't be the Dolphins first round pick is Stanley. Because I don't think Kiper has ever projected the Dolphins first round pick correctly.

I hope the Dolphins select defensive players with the majority of their picks and especially their picks in the first three rounds.

Looks like others have asked the question: how accurate is Kiper, say in the top half of the 1st round?
    http://insidethehuddle.tv/draft-hq/grading-gurus-mel-kiper

According to that link, he picks 46% of the top 16 correctly (over their 5 year period) AND they say this:

"Come draft day, you can trust Kiper with predicting offensive tackles. He picks the right guy at the right spot 35% of the time and correctly guesses which teams will pick a tackle 57% of the time."

lol.. I sure hope he gets it wrong this time with us.
