The fact that we played like this against the Warriors without Bosh makes me smile.

Heat lost on TWO bad No-calls. Should have been an illegal screen call on the last two Steph Threes. That's two TO's -6..and Heat win since they gave away 6 pt.s on intentional fouls.

    Heat got robbed.

I wonder who reffed the game?

    THIS ****ING GUY:
    Tony F'N Brothers.

The Miami Heat Big Three era was pretty good huh? Well, they had a winning record vs. Every Team, and every Ref combination except for one...a Tony Brothers reffed game. 2 + 2 = 4. That guy is crooked. I have said it for 6 years now, and he reared his stupid ugly head tonight as well.

As for the game....needed Dragic to play better. Wade and Whiteside were fantastic. Winslow showed why we are giddy, and Deng continues his consistent play. Josh Richardson had a coming out party.

Looks like that #3 seed is gonna be ours. Really, only the Cavs can beat the Heat in the East if they continue to play like this.

Well done guys! Heat played hard last night. Left it all on the court. Did themselves proud.

I've also had my curiosity piqued about the moving screens. I'm going to keep my eyes open and see if this really is a Warriors issue.

Great game. Shows you what this team is capable of, playing with the elite. But you could see the lack of shooting missing at times. Just an entire dimension the defense doesn't have to defend.

And the Warriors with their screens are like the Patriot DBs of the early 2000's, grabbing receivers on every play. The refs just aren't going to call it.

Jesus those guys can shoot tho.

From 0:42 onwards you see those last two shots.

Looks like Steph Curry has got himself an offensive line! :) The Blindside 2.0.

That was a great game. I don't think people can count out Miami in the east if they continue to play like this. They could give the cavs a run.

I can. The Cavs have Love, Irving, and Smith who can light us up from deep. We don't have the firepower over 7 games to match that. Then add in LeBron being able to catch fire from anywhere on the court, and I think we can win 2 games, 3 if we have a Gerald Green stretch of fire with Bosh back.

Not it would work the same for others. The benefit for this team is Curry's shooting. An extra tenth of a second for him is massive - he's the epitome of someone who's given an inch taking a mile.

Still, the more interesting challenge is how you defend against it if the refs aren't going to call it.

The initial, immediate thought is zone defense. But that won't work in the normal way.

The problem is, we don't have the shooters to make it work, and we won't get the calls. Whiteside simply has to breathe on someone and he gets called for a foul.

In a way, I get whey they're setting so many illegal screens. You have Curry floating around like a butterfly all over the place. It's nearly impossible to stay with him and get set. But if you're an official, you have to know that and call it.

That being said, it's just crazy to watch what Curry and Thompson can do. They make contested 3's look like uncontested 5-footers. The Heat should have won that game last night the way they played. Yet those two just pull up from anywhere and drain it. I don't ever remember seeing anything like this in the NBA.

After cooling down from the missed calls, there was obviously a lot to like from Miami last night. If Josh Richardson can do anything close to what he did last night for the rest of the season, the Heat should be fine with their PG depth. He defended Curry about as well as anyone could and brought his offense as well.

Whiteside is playing like a man possessed right now. Over the past 3 games he has a legitimate argument for being the best center in the league. In the past, we've seen him have great stretches followed by little slumps. Hopefully he bucks that trend and continues this play into the playoffs.

Wade was vintage last night. He was attacking the rim like it was 2006. There's no way that sustainable for him at his age, but it was fun to watch.

Justise Winslow is another player who's hitting his stride right now. We're finally starting to see him give you a little bit on the offensive end. He's starting to go to cut more instead of trying to find space to spot up.

Gerald Green is the lone blemish the Heat have had over this stretch. He's turned into Henry Walker, except at least Walker was good for a couple of big shots from time to time. Green has been useless. The good news is, he's so streaky that he can be awful for the rest of the season, but if he gets hot in the playoffs, he can be a big asset.

Even without Bosh, this is a good 3pt shooter away from being a potential ECF team. I still don't get not trading TJ for Casspi, but hopefully they can get someone who can stretch the floor in the buyout market come March.

Gerald Green is just in a slump. His body language says it all. He's an up-and-down player, we know that. He'll be up again.

Josh Richardson has the makings of a good shooter, IMO. I'm sure he was a little bit intimidated for most of the year and that led to some bad shooting. It looks like he's starting to come on that way now. I'd explore that because I think he's a good natural shooter and it wouldn't shock me to see him bring an element we don't have. Him attacking the basket is another good thing because he gets a lot of elevation and he's got speed. He draws fouls and he's a good foul shooter (again, I think he's a naturally good shooter).

Is Luol Deng in the post really a desirable option on offense? He did that a couple of times against Livingston and it just was NOT happening, but he kept acting like it was a mismatch. He's had a great renaissance attacking the basket and rebounding, and he adds that stretch-four ability because he can shoot the three ball. But the post? Am I dumb to think that's not something he should be aiming to do?

Nets and Joe Johnson have begun buyout talks.. We need him on this team especially with TJ out. When Wade is out there is a void offensively.

39% on catch-and-shoot threes, 43% on left-right corner threes, 41% on two-point jump shots, about 37-38% on threes with an open look.

Josh Richardson by the way is 7 of 11 on left and right corner threes. I'm telling you there's meat on the bone there with him.

Joe Johnson would be a good get because I think you can put those two out there at the same time. It seems like Joe is good at making the decision to throw that one extra pass to the open player behind the arc and that could be Josh.

I could be way off on this - but moving screens seem to be one of those things - like superstar calls - that certain guys get, and others don't. Draymond follows Noah who followed KG as guys who can get away with them and never get called. Other guys will get whistled every time.

NBA always seems to have a problem with that - when a team reaches a certain level, it's like the refs let them get away with more as a reward. Which only makes them harder to beat.

Maybe so. I see Miami doing it. In the highlights of the game last night there's definitely a play where McBob and Dragic are working off one another and McBob is clearly doing it. That leads me to think we do it, just not as much as the Warriors, and not to such great effect because we don't have outside shooters.

Based on what I've seen I think Joe Johnson could find use here as a perimeter shooter, passer, and defender. He seems like he can get the ball kicked out to him behind the break and then he can quickly kick it out to the left or right corner to an open shooter for a corner three. Or if he's open enough he can shoot the three himself, or dish it back to the inside to a player in isolation.

Also on Twitter I saw something along the lines of he's already expected to go to the Cavs.

  32. CaribPhin

    CaribPhin Guest

I read somebody laying out the logic there. The Cavs are the best team in the East with the easiest road to the Finals. If he goes to OKC he has to get through the grind of both the Spurs and Warriors. As a member of the Cavs, he likely breezes into the finals and the thinking is who knows what happens there.

That has been disputed. Chris Mannix who is top notch since he moved to Yahoo says that Heat and Hawks are high on Joe Johnson's list.

Kinda big if we land him.

Could Joe Johnson follow Vince Carter and transition into a similar 2.0 version of himself? I think it would be a wise path to follow.

Broussard and Skolnik both saying Heat frontrunners for Joe Johnson.

Also - Joe Johnson has had USG rates of 17% and 20% the last 2 years. Not really sure why he's still considered ISO.

Could see him doing what JR did - upping his 3pr and being extremely efficient while defending well enough to be an asset on that end.
