I totally get that. All of Miller, Matthews and Shelby are replaceable but it sucks to see all of them go.

I think losing Matthews means we lost at least the 2nd best WR on the roster. He was the best WR on the roster last year before
his injury and I think he will prove in Tennessee that the Dolphins made a huge mistake letting him leave in free agency.

I don't see the upgrade at LB you do. What the Dolphins traded for was a LB who has been injured the past two years and was only mediocre in the few games he played for the Eagles last year.

He had one very good season three years ago and that's it. I think LB, CB, and now RB are the three biggest needs on this team. The OL is also a huge need, but based on previous years I imagine this will be overlooked again by the FO.

I would rather have Grimes than Maxwell, even if that means another year of Miko.

Like I said yesterday, I love your positive attitude when it comes to the Dolphins, but I need some of whatever your smoking to be anything but depressed about this off season so far.

We had two average LBs in Misi and Jenkins. Adding Kiko makes us better.

Matthews was going to be the 4th WR this year. Nothing more. He's not better than Landry and not better than Parker but he'd fill the role those two do. It would be a luxury to keep him.

Grimes has been average for 1.5 years now. We lost nothing from swapping him for Maxwell.

I don't get why you hold Kiko's last year (in a miscast role) against him but not Grimes' last year and half against him.

I agree we still have needs to fill. But Omar just tweeted that we've offered CJ Anderson a contract. If he signs, he'd produce quicker in Gase's offense then Miller would, since he not only already knows it, but did quite well in it.

Add CJ and a solidly average G or two and I am OK with the offseason. Another G, a DE for the run opposite Mario and another OK CB would be a good offseason. Then we can have some choice for the draft. Wrecking DT, pass rush, another CB, line or a wild card like Zeke Elliot.

Right, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll cost more than we offered Miller.

If you want to root for certain players, root for certain players. If you want to root for a certain team, root for a certain team. You can't have it both ways though and you can't get mad at the rules of the game knowing what they are. Moreover, I'll remind you guys that while it's fun to fall in love with a player once they become a Dolphin it only makes sense that at some point you have to live with seeing that player move on.

As far as the big picture goes, I see a lot of money flying around NFL free agency but I also see a lot of starving teams reaching. My first impression of this year’s signings is somewhat pessimistic as I’m just not sure how many of these deals will pay off.

I see Tennessee, Houston, Tampa, Jacksonville and the NYJ giving up big money for RBs. Those 5 teams are a combined 33-47. One can only surmise that they are signing these high-profile RBs to offset the limitations of their young and inexperienced QBs. I do not think Miami is in the same position. Miami ought to be able to build around their weapons in the passing game and btw, a RB won't mean anything until the Oline issues are resolved. It makes no sense to get envious of these RB signings.

Additionally I see Houston, desperate as they are for a QB, gambling big money on an unproven guy. I’m not really a fan of that move. I see Oakland, Jacksonville and the NYG reaching hard for defensive talent. Of those, I question what the NYG are thinking given what they’ve spent. I see Atlanta going after a veteran to help them continue fixing their O-line which has been a primary focus there for going on 3 years.

Ultimately, I see teams fixing holes and very few of these deals are cost efficient. In fact, I see more risk this year than I can remember in a while. We Miami fans understand well that filling holes with premium free agents usually only sets the team back.

Miami needs to build its roster with DBs, LBs, as well as Lineman on both sides. Therefore, I would hardly say Miami is in a position to over-extend at RB and WR where depth is already present or can be easily added.

Losing Miller and Matthews doesn’t sting much considering the team still has Ajayi, Cameron, Parker, Landry and Stills. An additional cost-efficient RB can easily be found in the mid-rounds so ultimately Miami was probably wise not to waste money where it wasn’t needed. This frees up Miami to approach the draft looking primarily at defense with an eye towards the O-line.

With Suh, Wake, Williams and Phillips under contract, I think Miami has its core D-line set. This allows Miami to add a LB, DB and/or DL should the draft fall that way.

No, I didn't. All of the issues regarding the Suh contract don't match up with his performance, and just because someone else ridiculously overpaid for our FA's doesn't mean that we're at fault. Again, the only move that I didn't like was having Miller go, but if Anderson comes on board that goes a long way to making up for that.

I obviously have a higher opinion of Matthews than you do. I think he should have been signed and been the #2 WR on the roster. Landry is more a slot receiver and while Parket appeared to be coming on last year, I still rate Matthews as being the better WR at this time. Over the next few years I think Parker will be the better WR, but a WR threesome of Matthews, Landry, and Parker is much better than one consisting of Stills, Landry and Parker.

I just think he will prove to be a big loss for the Dolphins and the Titans are fortunate to get him, IMO.

I would take Miller over CJ Anderson any day of the week. Anderson isn't the breakaway threat Miller was. Anderson wasn't as good behind a much better OL in Denver than Miller was behind a bad OL in Miami. Again, I think the Texans got a steal by signing a Miller and his departure is a big blow to the Dolphins offense, IMO.

I don't believe that finding a quality RB is that easy. Because if they were, Shula would have been able to find them while Marino was the Dolphins QB, but he never could.

In the last 20 plus years, Miller was better than every RB the Dolphins have had except Ricky Williams.

My view of Grimes is that because of the other lousy CB's on the roster, this made him the best CB they had. I realize he wasn't the same player last year he was when he first signed with the Dolphins. I'm not upset they cut him. I just don't think Maxwell is an upgrade over Grimes. I think he is an average CB at best and maybe no better than below average.

I think the Dolphins still need to sign or draft two solid starting CB's before the season begins.

If the Dolphins had traded for Kiko after his rookie season, I would be on here saying it was a great trade. Unfortunately he had two major knee surgeries the past two seasons and I just don't see him being anymore than a shell of the player he was as a Bills rookie.

I was hoping that they would cut Misi, not restructure his contract. He is hurt and unable to play all the time. He can't cover the pass and he is just okay against the run. The fact he was kept while other more talented players were just allowed to leave via free agency is mind boggling to me.

At this time, I think the two weakest units on the Dolphins are the OL and the LB Corp. The secondary is right up there as a huge area of concern too.

I understand the loss of Vernon, because there is no way he is worth the money the Giants are paying him. While it would have been great to see him remain a Dolphin, they were smart to not match the ridiculous money the Giants are paying him.

Right now I just see the 2016 season as a season when the new coaching staff takes a year to see which players they want to built the future around and whether or not Tannehill is the QB they want for the long term.

I think we are looking at another 6-10 record at best and a 4 or 5 win season won't surprise me in the least. Since I have predicted all along that it will be at least 2019 before this team is a legitimate playoff contender, I will just view this next season as the beginning of the rebuilding process and wait to see who they draft in the top 5 of the 2017 draft.

Actually he did miss games last year with the Eagles after suffering a leg injury. In fact over his playing career, college and the NFL, he has missed nearly a third of those games because of injury.

He was a very productive player for the Bills during his rookie season, but he is going into his 4th NFL season this year and we just don't know if he can hold up or not.

If they had traded a 7th round pick for Maxwell and Alonso, I would understand taking the chance on them. I just don't agree with moving down from 8 to 13 in the first round to take a chance on a very mediocre CB and a LB with the injury history Alonso has.

I think they will miss out on a possible impact player by trading down. This isn't a real strong draft and trading down only makes it more possible they could end up with a mediocre player in the first round instead of possibly a top CB, LB, or offensive lineman who might still be there at 8, but most likely will be gone by the time they draft at 13.

To me the Eagles were the big winner in this trade. They moved up in the draft to get a better player and they got rid of two players who weren't in their plans for the 2016 season anyway.

Tannebaum was probably the only person who would be dumb enough to make this trade. I still think with him in charge, the Dolphins are headed for disaster. I thought it was bad when Ireland was in charge. Yet Ross somehow found a way to hire someone worse.

I guess this was Ross's way of showing the fans that we shouldn't have demanded he fire Ireland.

You are a clown...Landry is going to be one of the best slot receivers in the NFL for years. Bess Hartline 2.0 lol you have no idea what your talking about. Parker will breakout this year and Stills is a fine number 3 receiver and will actually be probably 5th on the teams in targets. I like Matthews but you cant be paying your 3rd WR 5 mil plus a year it is just not practical

No one said they plan to lose. I merely stated that based on the players they have signed in free agency and traded for so far. When you compare those players to the players they lost in free agency and cut because of limited cap space, I don't see where they have upgraded the team at all.

I am sure when they signed Suh last year, they didn't sign him because they expected to go 6-10 and have a worse defense than they had the previous year, but that's what happened.

I believe Tannebuam believes what he has done so far in the off season to the roster has improved the overall team. I just don't have any faith in Tannebaum's abilities in building a football team. Therefore I am not convinced the team today, as it is constructed is even as talented as last years team, which wasn't very talented at all.

He still has the rest of free agency and the draft to upgrade this roster, but right now I see a roster which might win 5-6 games at most in the 2016 season.

We brought in a proven pass rusher, we just signed C.J. Anderson, and we have two back up Tackles worth a dang. Plus, if Kiko stays healthy and Byron's last year is just a down year and not an indicator, we got ourselves two good players.

Has nothing to do with my opinion of Matthews. Its the team's if they planned on him being the #2 WR he would have been retained.

I prefer Miller, but its not a huge difference. Their important numbers are pretty similar. The biggest difference is that between the two is that Miller is faster and CJ is more a bruiser. Also, again, CJ knows our new offense.

As I said with Grimes and Maxwell, its a wash. Grimes played poorly for 1.5 years here. Maxwell is average.

I agree on needing more players.

Even as a shell, Kiko is at minimum better depth then we've had which is a net gain.

Let me try and understand this offseason so far .....

    - We let two clear-cut up and coming offensive players walk for absolutely nothing, players who this franchise PURPOSELY didn't give the ball enough
    - We trade for a DB with an inflated contract who posted some of the worse ratings in the league for that position and a LB who hasn't been able to stay healthy the last two years
    - We sign an aging DE as a stop-gap for letting OV walk, meanwhile Shelby just left and Wake is coming off an achilles tear. Who's setting the edge? Where's the youth? How many snaps you think these old guys are going to hold down? LOL
    - We sign a RB who's flashed one season in his career, can't stay healthy, and was part of a RB by committee philosophy

I can't comment on the safety and OT we signed. Don't know much about'em tbh. Clearly they're for depth and yet guys like Turner and Thomas are still on the roster.

    Oh yeah, so exciting.

    Slightly left of center
We had the youngest roster and the youngest coach in the league. I was excited about that. I thought... two more good drafts, let the kids play together and get on the coaches side and we would be ready to compete. And then four of our exciting young players bail. And not just for$$$. The culture this organization represents is depressing. I've been a fan for all 50yrs and I don't know who my team is anymore. We have no identity beyond being the patsies fluff girls on the way to another money shot. I don't have any idea why we got so focused on change for the sake of change but it really feels like there is no one with the stones to take over and lead at ANY level. What the flip is the plan? Right now, and for the last decade I just feel like ownership, GM's, Coaches and all are just going thru the motions, punching the clock. Its like the Dolphins have become the Postal Service.

Time for another drink I think :pity:

This board is unbearable sometimes. Miller was not staying in miami. Period. He made that obvious. It wasnt about paying him. We offered him a GOOD deal and he bailed for the first non dolphins offer he got. Also please stop acting like OV walking is a negative. The guy is now the highest paid defensive end in history. HISTORY. OLIVIER F***ING VERNON. Keeping vernon for anything near his current contract would be the mistake. Not the other way around. The Giants are in for a surprise. Losing matthews sucks but at the end of the day he was our WR#4. WE'LL LIVE.

2 days into FA complaining about no youth before the draft is even here. Uhhhh. Hello?? Considering our entire defense was swiss cheese, getting two starters for a drop back of 5 spots is huge. Obviously the FO feels their guy will be there at 13 or they wouldn't have done it. Quit complaining just to complain. And no the safety we signed wasnt just for depth, IAQ was listed as one of the biggest steals/sleepers of FA this year. Would be surprised if he wasn't a starter. Played out of position and once it was fixed he proved he could ball. We were almost to the point where signing guys off the street would be defensive upgrades for us, now we're complaining about taking risks on people like DROTY in Kiko who has a huge ceiling if he can stay healthy.

Yeah no. Easy to say before they take a snap. If Kiko stays healthy, the eagles got hosed. And thats regardless of maxwell. If maxwell is serviceable on top of that, even better. We needed a big for our division. Also It's comedic that you assume the FO isnt atleast somewhat comfortable that 'their' guy will be there at 13.

Lmao 'perspective'. Wake had 7 tackles last year. Guess he's garbage too. Watch some 2013 tape and come back. If you dont think he is an upgrade you are delusional.

And apparently the only metric that measures if a RB is good or not is by how many 1k yard seasons they have now?

Assuming their 'guy' will be there at 13, we just picked up 2 defensive starters for the two weakest parts of our team for nothing. But that's negative right? In case you have amnesia, We had to replace almost half our defense this offseason, remember?

So naturally if every spot isnt filled with a hall of famer or a 1st round pick guaranteed a probowl spot, its a bad move.

Yeah they are gambling on kiko staying healthy, because if he does we hit the jackpot, unless youre blind. Thats why they just extended him so we can possibly have the same guy who was DROTY for a mere 2 mil a season. High risk ultra high reward. Smart move. Wont hurt too much if he doesnt pan out.

We need bodies at DB. Badly. So him being a low rated DB means he will be one of the worst still while he's a dolphin too? And that has a zero percent chance of changing? You do realize youre a fan of the team that let davis go for almost nothing right? When he wasn't doing much for us, Howd that work out for Indy again? Sick logic.

id love to see what youd do to build half a defense from scratch in an offseason, starting off with near no cap space.

You will complain about every single move this team makes. Book it.

You do realize that telling anyone to review the film from 2013 is laughable? This is 2016 and the fact you have to look at how a player performed 3 years ago is actually hilarious.

I guess we should all go back to the 2004 tapes of Zack Thomas and Jason Taylor and conclude that they would upgrade this defense too.

This is a "what have you done lately" league and lately Alonso hasn't done much but spend a lot of time injured.

Personally I have no problem with trading for Maxwell and Alonso, if the Dolphins had traded a 7th round pick for them. I just think giving up 5 positions in the first round for two question mark players was Not the right move by Tannebaum.

I hate the trade because I would rather have stayed at 8 instead of moving down to 13. That is my objection to adding Maxwell and Alonso to this roster.

What? They didn't go after him for his work and his numbers last year when he got hurt again .... so obviously the year he played 16 games and won DROTY is relevant here, because that's what they are gambling on. That Kiko. That's not laughable that should be common sense. He didn't do much for philly at all, so any coach worth a damn who wants to plug him into a system where he can be successful will go back to 2013 when he had that monstrous rookie season and try to see what worked for him, what he did well, what didn't work, etc, and go with that. Hell our new coaches mantra is pretty much 'play to players strengths', something we have been harping about here for a long time.

Now if you want to talk about laughable, calling the move from 8 to 13 'not the right move' when you have no idea who they are targeting with that pick, AND neither player has played a single snap yet, THAT'S laughable. If they get their man at 13 then it was a good deal. If both starters play decently as well, then it was an absolute steal for them. 'You' hate the move. That doesn't mean it's the wrong move. You literally haven't the slightest idea who they are going after with their first pick. If you can land your man 5 spots back how is that not a win? You're so jaded that being negative is embedded into your DNA. It's too early for this.
