Yeah, I know, which was why I said earlier, this wasn't really an opinion piece. They had stats on deep balls last season, comparing Bridgewater and Flacco.

I can't believe no one else saw it. I'm flabbergasted.

I'm sure there are certain QBs who are slightly more accurate than others when throwing really deep down the field, but the small sample sizes and the year to year unpredictability of how things shake out lead to questions about whether or not those rankings are useful.

I think WRs have a bigger impact in whether or not teams can be successful simply based on how good they are making the catch and getting open down the field. I don't think Mike Wallace was particularly good at either of those despite his immense vertical speed.

I also think Head Coaches and Offensive Coordinators play a significant role in how aggressive a QB is allowed (or pushed) to be. Some offenses seem to include the "big play" as a critical means of creating offense while others tend to play more conservatively and consider low-percentage plays as unnecessarily risky.

I did find it interesting that Devante Parker was able to help make the big play a more reliable option in Miami's offense towards the end of last year. After the coaches left, it seemed that Tannehill become more willing to push the ball downfield to all of his receivers, particularly Stills and Parker.

While Miami's future looks to be brightening, Wallace is now on his 3rd team since leaving the Steelers. On that note, the Steelers with Ben Roethlisberger seem to have no problem making vertical WRs looks great.

On that note, I'd concur with Philip J. Fry.

Thanks for that link, cbrad, unfortunately, the segment from SportsCenter isn't in there. Just the one from NFL Insiders, which didn't include the same stats and commentary.

At the end of the day, flacco is streaky but when he's on, he's one of the best deep passers in the league. His 2012 and 2014 are fantastic. He's a better deep thrower with a rocket arm. He will have a whole year where he sucks at everything. Then he will have a year where he's pretty good.

We've been told a lot of stupid things in this very forum. It's not even newsworthy anymore.
