If you go back and look at the "2 AFC title games" in a row. you would see that in 2009 the jets were a wild card at 9-7 and barely got by the Chargers 17-14 and then promptly got spanked by the Colts the following week in the AFC title game 31-17. That was the year Ryan gave the finger to the Dolphins fans who spit on him (allegedly). 2010 the Jets started out the season 9-2 and then Played NE in game 12 who spanked their a$$ 45-3. They ended up 11-5 and squeaked by the 3rd seed Colts 17-16 to replay NE , who they beat 28-21. They played Pittsburgh who dominated them most of the game winning 24-19.

As you probably can tell not a Rex Ryan fan. IMO he is one of the most over rated coaches in the league. Those teams that he had were the result of Mangini being there and getting who and what he wanted from Tannenbaum. Mangini had a large input into building those teams although he doesn't get credit for it. The defense your referring to was a shadow of itself after the second year Ryan got there and as Tbaum continued to tinker with the roster - so went the Jets - right down the toilet - where, by the way - they belong ---LOL

    .

I think both teams walked away from this trade thinking they improved their team. There is an element of risk to this trade no doubt. You have a player who seemingly was a round peg in a square hole and another who has been plagued with injuries. I think it's worth the risk for moving down 5 spots for the potential of getting 2-3 starters with one pick.

MLB: I agree. Moving down for two players that fill positions of need is a potential great move. This is still dependent on how they play and who they chose in the draft. They need to pick up another CB, LB, and OL. If they do this then the trade was successful.

I see your point but not quite sure that I totally agree. First, the team fills two positions of need by trading down 5 spots. I think that you are correct in that the true success of the trade is dependent on the players actual performance (duh!!!) but also on who they take in the draft. If they get their targeted player and assuming it's in a position of need, then the trade is successful. As far as losing Miller, hated to see it but I still think and building a great O-line, which should be a focus of this team, will always make the RB and therefore Miller becomes expendible.

I give free agency at this time of the year the same grade I do every year...

I, for incomplete. Let's at least put the pads on before deciding it was a bust. Ask me in January.

Technically you can't use what happens later to determine what decisions are best right now.

Stating something after you already know how things worked out is just being Captain Hindsight.

    And the circle continues.

regardless of what happens none of these players have been to the ultimate prize - the super-bowl.

We will never build a super-bowl culture until they bring in a few players who know what that culture looks like - to start the ball rolling.

It will be hard to say if the two new guys are better then Grimes and Misi because you can't put them on identical teams in identical situations to adequately compare them. Nor will they have the same coaches or same schemes.

    over there
I would assume that free agent grades can only be determined after the season is played?
