So today Miami finally made a move on the Offensive side of the ball and signed Center / Guard Kraig Urbik.

No terms but looks like Foxy might be replaced Thank Heaven!! Solid Player nothing outstanding but better than that trash we roll out there. Hopefully we get another starter in the draft.

Urbik joins Jermon Bushrod as new additions to the Dolphins offensive line and both of them are expected to be in the mix for jobs at guard. The Dolphins have Billy Turner, Dallas Thomas and Jamil Douglas back from last year’s team, although their work was widely seen as falling short of the level needed for a successful offense in Miami.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/03/22/dolphins-sign-kraig-urbik/

I honest don't want any of those three back in 2016, turner, thomas or Douglas all of these are weak links.

So the Dolphins attempt at fixing the guard position is....Jermon Bushrod and Kraig Urbik?

Why does every name have to be widely known to constitute a " good" signing??? How much do any of us really know about the potential of these players? I guess you want Jake Grove and Justin Smiley again?. Those 2 big names worked out great. Please.

This is not a big move. It's another cheap option to create competition in hopes that someone pulls something unexpected.

Keep in mind that if Bushrod is truly Miami's LG, the team is simply looking for a RG and now can pick the best of Douglas, Turner, Urbik and Thomas.

The starting lineup today would probably be:
    Albert - Bushrod - Pouncey - Douglas - James

That means that Turner, Urbik and Thomas are back-up Guards barring anything crazy.

Point is, the O-line already looks better and we haven't even seen the draft. Whether or not Miami goes after any of the remaining free agent Guards everyone's talking about will tell us a lot about their draft strategy I think.

idk if you're talking about Jason Fox but Sam Young will probably be our swing tackle. I believe Urbik is more of an interior lineman.

ahhh a voice of reason with all these downers in here, how can anyone argue that this team is not better depth wise at the OL with a little FA and draft to go, personally i would switch Douglas with Turner though

People crying we haven't done anything to address the O line situation, soon as they do with him and Bushrod.....people cry again.

Such a happy little bunch here these days. Miss the old times to be honest.

I just wish we would have gone after Matthis this offseason. I mean we wanted him last year but went cheap and he wne to Denver. We had a chance to fix that for a nice 2-3 stop gap and we didnt even try in free agency.

He played 16 games last year and ranked 48th out of 81 qualifying guards. That's a lot better than what like 77th and 81st that Thomas and Turner were or something like that. We need to be competent at guard, we don't need all-pros. Good signing

When all he has to do is at least know his assignment, probably an upgrade.

I do still like turner and douglas but goodness cannot have ppl out there who do not know what they are seeing on stunts and twists etc

Only so much that we can do in one offseason. Unless the brass wants to do something creative like trade for a player, but what do we have to give up!? I think we will draft at least 2 offensilve linemen in this years draft as well. It's going to take 2-3 years to fix all the holes.

i wish we had a few more of these types of signings to shore up depth. cheap average OG which is an improvement over last year's guards. hopefully douglas improves his second year and if not hopefully bushrod can transition to guard. hargreaves or stanley in the first

Its better to add veteran lineman even if they are not that great than relying on rookies like last year. I hope we add more.

Well, very pleased with the Urbik signing...Between him and Bushrod we now have proper depth on the offensive line. I still think we need to draft a mainstay at one of the guard positions, but Urbik especially gives us comfort in case of injury (which usually seems to happen). In fact, we've had injuries to key offensive lineman as far back as I can remember on a yearly basis, so Bushrod and Urbik provide some proven insurance for when that does happen.

From my pov, we are making the classic "modern" Dolphins mistakes over and over again

Basically, Wanny forward we have been held hostage by high draft picks that suck, to be blunt. Recall Belicheat cutting a slew of high draft picks for a couple of yrs? That was the reason, for all of the hype about draft picks "being given time to develop" Both Shula and Belicheat never bought into that, maybe two real shots if you did not pan out the player was gone no matter the draft position they came to franchise riding upon.

From that pov, Dallas Thomas gets another shot at LG starting time, as will Taylor at Cb, and in true win the battle lose the war fashion, both with be FAs after this season. "Thanks for the training and belief guys, now gonna get paid..see ya".

    Id actually prefer a UDFA

The past two years, there were questions about why the Dolphins weren't doing anything to shore up the oline, and then the folks jumped on the naysayers, saying you're so negative wait until the draft and FA. Then, wait until the games. Then, wait until next year.

After two years the naysayers have evidence and history on their side. The oline has been horrible, and should be our #1 priority. Maybe it was coaching, and Gase and staff will take care of it. But I wouldn't wag my finger at the people skeptical of the organization because of what's happened in recent history. This isn't as bad, but if Cleveland Brown fans are asking what the plan is at QB, you wouldn't tell them, "you wait until the season starts, you'll see!!!"

Problems that can be seen from here, basically the high draft choices showed..they really cannot play well, the Vet options to replace them..also have questions.

Personally believe the #13 should be used on a Guard, and Thomas should be waived and Turner and Douglas duke it out for back up roles if Bushrod does not pan out at LG. Though to me plain as day they privately believe he is Jason Fox with more talent, swing tackle/backup guy. Meaning they hope Turner/Douglas/Thomas win the starting job at LG.

My ideal line up in this situation

James/Urbik/Pouncey/#13/Albert Bushrod is the backup swing tackle, Douglas the back up C/G. INOW the most resources poured into the OL since either Groves first yr in Miami, or JJ's old OL's

Using #13 on a guard is insane to me, even with the line troubles we have had. Just cannot be blowing such a valuable pick on such a low impact position. Must get playmakers or impact defenders out of those picks, just have to.

All due respect Padre, but I don't see any way that 13 won't be a defensive player. BPA at any one of DL, CB, and LB in that order based on how most boards are stacked right now. Actually, I believe those will be top our 3 picks based on BPA for the 1-3. We need youth at all 3 in the worst way. We could argue all day about what is a higher priority, getting RT killed yet again, or shore up the other side of the ball.

Whether or not the Kubrik and Bushrod signings will help the struggling Miami offensive line woes remains to be seen but to all of the down in the dump naysayers, I have but one question. WHO is actually out there that the Dolphins have a legitimate chance of getting that will make that immediate impact on the offensive line?

    I mean seriously, who?

Billy Turner is serviceable. I'm not certain why people are comparing the two. Turner had less than half the pressures than Thomas.

Tuner is a backup and shouldnt be ever considered a starter. We need better protection plain and simple. We been trying to coach these guys up for years with no luck move on already!

I absolutely agree taking a guard at #13 would be nuts. So my question is, should we take a guard at 13?

Yes - We need to protect RT. When RT has had time to throw the ball, he looks really, really good. You have invested a considerable amount into RT, and common sense tells us that we need to protect that investment. Time and time again, this organization has shown an inability to find guards later in the draft. Despite our new additions to the o-line, I think even the most optimistic fans should at least be a little nervous. There are people in the draft who are tackles that could be long term replacements for Albert while playing guard early on in their careers. If any of our starters get hurt in training camp, our new offensive line will go back to not looking so hot.

No - It is a guard with the 13th pick! I have always felt that when given a top 10 pick (which we have and we are still close to having), you need to draft game-changers. When I think game-changers, I think people who score touchdowns, get turnovers, or get sacks. In no way does guard check this box. Additionally, guards can be found much later in the draft. Many people often say, you can find position x in later rounds. The thing is, that really is the norm for interior linemen (the problem is, we haven't been able to do this as an organization).

So Texanphinatic, I walk away agreeing with you that it would be insane to draft a guard at 13. You are 100% correct. But I ask you, should we draft a guard at 13?

at 13 if there is a high rated player available we go CB or RB IMHO, Guard in 2nd 3rd round.
