    Pretty good piece:

If there, I would love to for them to take. Hargreaves, but I doubt he will be here. If he is, turn in he card.

Dodd or Lawson have been other possible choices of mine. We can really use another edge rusher. Wake's health is uncertain and he's getting up there. It's definitely a need.

There ares some DBs I like who we could get later on, but there are a few very good ones we could take earlier. Tough choice.

Especially in this draft, I would love for them to trade back, but I don't like to consider trade backs because the possibilities are so unknown. Outside of a small handful of teams, most teams would like to trade back, but that;s how you build a solid contender,,,building through the draft. I would love to trade back and get some picks and take a Ragland. He could really help our porous run D from constantly getting gashed at the most inopportune times.

It's a good point about teams possibly wanting to trade up with us if Elliot is there at 13. That would be great.

    Anyway..

I don't know why trading up isn't one of the options...we got some extra picks next year, package some to move up for Ramsey or Jack.

I guess on this list moving down and drafting Jackson is the option I like best.

If a player we really want is there at 13, pick him. There's a high enough probability of a pick in that range becoming a pro-bowler so it's really worth it.

But part of me wishes we would for just one year trade back and stockpile future picks because they are usually worth 1 round more (e.g. a 2nd this year = 1st next year). Imagine if each year we traded our 2nd for a 1st the following year. Except for the year you start this strategy where you simply lose a pick, you'd always have 2 1st's and no 2nd.. forever!

Belichick has understood this principle and done it several times. It's hard to beat it value-wise as a long-term strategy and if I know I have several years to rebuild a franchise, I'd do it in a heartbeat (assuming a player you just love isn't there when you pick).

im all in for trading up for Jack..and all in for trading down if thats not gonna happen..

I would think san diego would be interested, they could still trade down and get their left tackle in stanley.

I never really like moving up unless you're one player away(in most cases you're not) or you have the option for a franchise QB. We have too many holes and needs to be giving up a 2-4 draft pick. Some of the most consistently successful teams(Packers, Patriots) trade back and acquire more picks.

As is always true, it's not about what move you elect to make in the 1st round. There are several appealing options as laid out in that article: RB, CB, LB, trade-back, etc.

The worth of a draft is really in what you do after you've pulled the trigger in the 1st round. If you go with a CB high, what are you able to do about G, LB, DE, and RB later on? Re-arrange those into any configuration you want, it's really about the sum of talent you add and what combination is best.

Ugh... not the quantity over quality argument... Read that article this morning and completely disagree. Moving back for quantity over quality was a mistake that Ireland made several times and was roasted to no end about it. We moved down from taking Earl Thomas and picked up both Jared Odrick and Koa Misi. Neither were, or has, proven to be as good as Earl Thomas. No thanks. We've already moved down from the #8 and picked up two penciled in starters with Maxwell and Alonso. Absolutely zero benefit in trying to get cute again and moving down again for an additional 3rd or 4th round pick when we already have 8 draft picks in this draft.

Also disagree with the author on taking Reggie Ragland over Hargreaves, Apple, or Alexander. Ragland is inflated in this draft due to Smith's injury. Same with Darron Lee. Neither are worth a Top 17 pick. Ragland isn’t even a Top 20 player in this draft from most pundits and analysts, nor is he as good as CJ Mosley was coming out, who was taken at #17 a couple seasons ago. Ragland lacks coverage speed, lacks vision and lacks side line speed. He is only good in short areas where he can tackle running backs mostly coming straight at him. I don't see him as enough of an upgrade over from Koa Misi to warrant the number #13 pick or even a drop to #16/17. There are quality LBs to be had in the 2nd - 4th rounds. I'd rather wait and take Brothers, Scooby, Martinez, Perry, or Fackrell.

    YMMV.

I believe two Ole Miss prospects, Nkemdiche and Treadwell, are real dark horses for that 13th pick. Dolphins assistant coaches, along with some other teams', ran Nkemdiche's drills at the Ole Miss pro day and really tried to test him. He reportedly looked pretty good, it's whether or not they want to take the gamble. Treadwell would be a nice complement to Parker and Landry, and he may be the BPA. Treadwell would also aid the ground game.

It obviously cuts both ways which is why a team might choose to diversify, particularly if they feel theyre going to overdraft based on need. If you trust your scouts have done their jobs you can build a dynasty trading back just as you can staying put.

They want DT/LB/S ahead of LT in my opinion from reading some of their forum stuff.

It's mostly been a "Bobbitt" cut for us when it's come to the Dolphins and the draft...

Chris Grier very well may break the chain of previous poor draft decisions on dropping down and taking lesser talented players while trying to find more role players, but again I'd rather not drop out of the Top 15 to roll the dice on another 4th/5th rounder. We have a enough of those already. Our best defenders are either FAs, or in Reshad Jones case, blind luck.

i don't agree here, try to find the sweet spot in the draft..take the chance on your ability to recognize players who are being a bit underrated..now of course if I love a player there's no question I take him, but to me 13 thru 25 looks pretty similar..all the blue chippers will be gone..

Mike Tannenbaum has shown a propensity in trading draft picks

    some examples are

2006-Leon Washington (acquired from KC for Herm Edwards)
Patrick Ramsey (acquired for a 2006 6th round pick)

    2007
    Darrelle Revis ( acquired for 2007 1st, 2nd and 5th rd picks)
Thomas Jones (acquired by swapping 2007 2nd rd picks)
Kevin Barlow (acquired in 2006 for 2007 4th rd pick)

    2008
Kris Jenkins (acquired for 2008 3rd and 5th round picks)

    2009
Brett Favre (acquired in 2008 for 2009 3rd rd pick)was acquired immediately prior to the 2008 season, for a 2009 pick. Thus he is listed under the 2009 draft, even though he played for the Jets in 2008
Lito Sheppard (acquired for 2009 5th rd pick)
Mark Sanchez (acquired for 2009 1st and 2nd rd picks and players Kenyon Coleman,Abram Elam, Brett Ratliff
    Shonn Greene (acquired for 2009 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th rd picks)

    2010
Braylon Edwards (acquired in 2009 for 2010 3rd and 5th rd picks and Chansi Stuckey, Jason Trusnick)
Santonio Holmes (acquired for 2010 5th rd pick)

    2011
Antonio Cromartie (acquired in 2010 for 2011 2nd rd pick)

    2012
Tim Tebow acquired for 2012 4th round pick and a swap of 2012 6th round pick for 7th round pick
Caleb Schlauderaff (acquired in 2011 for 2012 7th rd pick)

Trader Mike got that nickname for a reason and if the past is any indication
of future actions I expect more trades

Not too interested in trading up, and I do love Jack and really like Ramsey. It'd likely cost a lot to get into the top 3 for one of them. IMO we should be saving our assets and future picks for next year's draft when we may need ammo to take a QB, depending on how this season goes. I'd be more into trading back in the first for the same reason, not to mention the lack of true top-10 talent in this draft.
