be a better leader ryan, hold the players accountable, don't think just cause their men and professionals they dont want to be lead, because they do, they want to believe in their leaders, and if you cannot provide them with that you will not succeed....find your game lad.. as far as needing to improve in redone, 3rd down, and 4th quarter, its all about one thing...situational awareness and when to know when to bail on a play and make a play yourself...if you cant improvise beyond the system, I'm not sure your ever gonna be a champ qb.. someone needs to smack him in the face and say hey man, if your first and 2nd read is not there, then do something son..make a friggin play..which absolutely applies when you have a trash offensive line, so please dont go there in this thread. make a play on your own is what it comes down to..build a great defense, get him a top notch run game and lets do this.
I think this is his year to prove that he is the real deal. Even though he has made his share of mistakes, I think he is a quarterback that no one knows other than himself what he is capable of doing. This is the year he shows everyone what he wasn't able to do in the past: be an elite quarterback. He hasn't been properly developed or groomed to be a quarterback in this league. Now he has his chance. I'm sure he will take advantage of this opportunity. If they protect him up front and trust him to make plays at all times, I think we will see a different, better Ryan Tannehill. I may be in the minority in this but I believe he is real deal and I stand by it.
So next year what happens when we go 8-8? Do they let him go? This team has been struggling at QB since Dan retired. Ryan while not perfect has been the best QB save the one year Pennigton went off. I dont think he will magically turn into Manning / or Brady and Im not sure what QB would flourish under that Oline. Crap sandwiches still taste like crap even with new cheese.
Pennington went off with the help of the Wildcat formation, did he not? We had an incredible ground game driving that offense. Then we got blasted in the playoffs.
This is true, and if he can't be clutch in the regular season, then it would seem very unlikely that he'll ever become clutch in the playoffs. OJ is right, a coach can't teach that, it's a personal trait.
Flacco was eh in the playoffs and went ham. Eli too. It can happen. But need a solid squad around them that also goes ham if they're not elite
Now I understand that Alex Smith has gone to the playoffs at this point in his career and has won a couple games. And I understand the point being made that Tannehill can "become a Pro Bowler" or whatever, but to compare the first 4 or 5 years of Smith's career to Tannehill's is something I don't understand. And I've seen it over and over again. Tannehill has thrown for 24+ TDs in 3 straight years, Smith has never done that once. Not arguing that Smith hasn't had more team success or even individual success....but Tannehill is discussed as if he is this dumpster fire of a QB in both online forums and on TV and radio. He's basically a Matt Ryan-level guy at this point. We had a huge amount of fans, even with banners and chants, all about trading for Kyle Orton. Remember that? Now we have a guy with 3 STRAIGHT years better than or equal to any year that Orton put together...ever. If you could tell your 2010 self you could have a consistent 25 TD, 2:1 TD/INT, 4000+ yards on a long-term contract...would you have gone for it? We put the guy in bad positions, really long 3rd and 4th downs, had him throwing all the time with no run-game balance, and an O-Line getting destroyed every week....and then coaches threw him under the bus. Hard to be a leader in those conditions. Pretty sad that one of Tannehill's first comments was that he happy to have the support of the new coach.
I don't think that he thought he was allowed to improvise with the say so of the coach. I think he would run but he might have felt some hesitation for doing so. I don't he felt confident to be himself on the field.
lol You already know the answer. Kyle Orton haha but there's better. My fav is still how some people said, "we'd be better off w Manziel bc he'd bring in more respectable FAs." Top that one.
Haha you don't even want to know. I don't really want to put them on blast but we'll say a well-respected member on this board.
Late bloomer lmao, what a crock of ****... Ryan came outta the gates a smart savvy QB that gets hit more than anyone since David Carr. The headline should read: Dolphins hope they can begin to protect QB before they destroy Tannehill
That's what I'm hoping for. I have high expectations for him with all that is going to be given him to make him better -- from coaches to offensive line to additional players who will step up this year. There is no excuse for not getting double digit wins this year plus a playoff appearance.
Almost every turnaround in recent history has coincided with a QB change, its not a coincidence. Tannehill is tainted goods within the lockerroom. It would behoove both Tannehill and the Dolphins to trade him and get a fresh start for both parties. Even if you traded him for another QB at his level like Stafford or Bradford we would have a much greater chance at success just because he's different.
What? Like when? Peyton? You get to work on that trade. The Eagles would give some bullion for that deal.
"Late bloomer" is accurate because he's never been a top performer at the position. Here's how he stacked up while at Texas A+M: 2010: 44th in passer rating, 65th in ypa 2011: 56th in passer rating, 66th in ypa He's been pretty consistently middle-of-the-pack for 6 years. We do need him to become something better.
