My 11 year old son has finally caught the football bug. This coming fall he is going to join youth football. We are going to spend the spring and summer practicing to give him the best chance to succeed come the fall. I never played youth football..always pickup games..played Soccer in school instead What are some good concepts that we can practice and drill before fall to really give him a good foundation. Its important to me that he learn the proper techniques...since hes just starting he hasnt developed any bad habits so want him to learn right the first time. Any ideas...reference materials..anything at all that you feel are good for a beginning youth football player would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
USA football is an awesome site, and most coaches use that for teachings! Videos and all that... http://usafootball.com/
Lol...I know it sounds simple, right? But I really want to teach him the right technique for both...so he does it properly right from the start. We watched a Peyton Manning training video...and then repeated the mechanics over and over. Simple things likr making sure this is space between the webbing of your thumb and index finger when gripping the ball. And then catching using hands not body..
Not sure if hes really picked one yet. More trying to just get fundementals down first before worrying about a position.
If you don't want him in pads yet sign him up for some flag-football. Watching games on TV still makes me want to play at age 51.
