If we traded him we would at least get something, if we get to TC and he can't get past anyone, he will be cut, that is the reality of the NFL, and it sends the message that if you can't produce, you don't get paid, and that is the NFL message, not just Miami, it sends a much worse message to players, coaches and fans if you keep a washed up player, because then where is your commitment to winning? Zach Thomas was cut, Marino did not have his option picked up, if it can happen to those guys, then it can happen to Wake.

I am a huge Wake fan, but when it's over, it's over, even if he wasn't coming off the worst injury a guy like him can get, he's a smallish, speed reliant passrusher, and he's 34, so regardless, his career is coming to a close, and this achilles may have effectively ended his career, as it has ended many athlete's careers.

The world keeps on turning, as the old saying goes.

PS, congrats on your new baby.

In order to qualify for the comp equation, a player must have been a true Unrestricted Free Agent whose contract had expired or was voided after the previous season (i.e., he cannot have been released by his old team); he must sign during the UFA signing period (which ended July 27 last year); if he signs after June 1, he must have been tendered a June 1 qualifying offer by his old team; his compensatory value or contract value must be above a specific minimum amount; and he cannot have been permanently released by his new team before a certain point in the season (which seems to be after Week 10) or, possibly, before getting a certain amount of playing time, unless he was claimed off waivers by another team.

I know what the reality is, im really just holding out hope because I dont think he's done and I still think hes got quite a bit left in the tank as a pass rushing specialist. He's a rare specimen. The team has stated they dont want him going anywhere else and they want him to retire here, that could just be contract nego speak, but who really knows. I just firmly believe itd be more beneficial to keep him. We'll see how it plays out.

    ps. Thanks :)

While I'm not really all that excited about bringing in Norman, I've been seeing some comments about Carolina's pass rush being great and that's why he benefitted from being on that team... lest we forget we have arguably the best pass rushing DT in the league, an All- Pro DE when motivated, one of the best pass rushing DE's in the NFL when healthy, and a damn good pass rushing specialist in Jim Washburn to boot.

Let's not pretend we have a crap DL... if we get our **** together with good coaching and a little bit of luck with injuries (knock on wood), I still believe we can have a top 5 DL in the league.

PS: This post is not directed at you dullfandan, it's more of a general comment towards people who are dismissing our DL as if it is way below the Panthers'.

Lets say we don't get him. And one of the others in front of our draft status does. That means that they no longer have that need and will draft a different player. Someone we want might now fall to us at 13. Maybe

Come on, man! Do you really think Hargreaves, Apple, or Jackson is on the same level as Norman? Trust me, the corner class is not very good this year. This IS the year for defensive ends. If you are drafting a corner at 13, you are reaching, period.

As for this 3rd round compensatory pick that some of you liken to the Hope Diamond, let it go. First of all, Mike Tannenbaum AKA Lil' Draft Killa will be the guy making the pick, so don't expect much from it. Second of all, if the Carolina Panther-Cats called and said you can have Norman for a 3rd, we should jump on it.

I feel like I am riding the Crazy Train with some of the people on this board.

he did a lot with draft picks in the past, it might also be needed to have some ammo to trade up in this years draft, since we can offer our original picks in the rounds we expect to get compensated to get a player we covet

If we could somehow sign Norman, and Elliot falls to us at 13, that is a game changer and would make me way more optimistic about this upcoming season.

NFL players all know it is a business first. Miller, Vernon, and Matthews had no issue with leaving the team that drafted them for teams willing to pay them more money.

Wake was a great player before he started playing with injuries. Last year he was basically a situational type player prior to his season ending injury. As great as Wake has been, he's no Jason Taylor and the Dolphins had no problem trading Taylor when he was younger and wasn't coming off a serious injury.

By the time the Dolphins become a legitimate playoff contender, Wake will be retired. If they can get a fourth or fifth round pick for him, they should make the trade. Unfortunately Because of his age and the injury, the best they could probably get for him is probably a sixth or seventh round pick

I really don't see Norman coming to Miami. Several teams have far more cap room and are closer to being a playoff team than the Dolphins. Yet if they could sign him and that meant they had to trade or possibly cut Wake to have the cap space to sign Norman, I would have no problem with this move at all.

Personally I think players on the Dolphins and around the league would understand signing one of the top CB's in the league, even if it meant Wake had to go.

I've already addressed or echoed most of this in my subsequent posts. All im saying is regardless of how you feel about Norman, signing him and straight up cutting/trading Wake are not mutually exclusive, and the team has publicly stated they want Wake to stay. So idk. And if you don't think Wake has more value to this team than a late round pick (very late) then nothing more needs to be said because I'll never agree with it.

Norman is not worth 15-16 million... no way, no how. He is also not a young player.

I don't think it is a good idea to pay him the kind of money he is asking for.

He hasn't been elite for long enough, and he isn't a 1:1 scheme fit.

Josh Norman’s deal, when complete, expected be between $14 to $15 MIL per year, per sources. 5-year deals being discussed with Wash and SF.

We are out of it. Its between SF and Wash.

Obviously being in California wasn't that high on his priory list, once the Redskins opened up their checkbook.

If you're not in JJ Watt's league, hell even Revis before his knee injury was considered the best defensive player in the league.. I'd pay that version of revis that kind of money... But Josh Norman... 50 million guaranteed? That's just stupid and irresponsible. He's a very good corner but he's not a game changer like JJ Watt is or like Revis was.

I would have been good with giving him a contract similar to the one Vontae got, and he would have considered that lowballing but oh well, I've only seen one very good season from him so far.

Based on the reported numbers, I think the Panthers made the right decision to let Norman walk. He is a decent corner, probably a top ten corner, but he's certainly not a top five corner and I wouldn't have made him the best paid corner in the league. I guess we'll see exactly how good he is on the Redskins defense because that is nowhere near the level that the Panthers was at last season, and a great front seven like the Panthers can help make the secondary appear better than they are - for example, Kurt Coleman leading them with 7 INTs last season.

For me, he's a good player but the Redskins have paid a hefty price and I am glad our Dolphins are now supposedly a more frugal and sensible football team! :huh1:

I predict that Washington loses a couple games because of Norman... either him getting burned or getting in a fight and being suspended. Washington better have a decent pass rush for him to earn that kind of money.

He is not anywhere close to as good as he thinks he is. Remember Cam had to knock him up side his head last year in pre-season.

Idk, I also remember him doing a real good job on Beckham, to the point where he made ODB crack, a game that ODB should have been kicked out of, and was subsequently fined.

Norman can play with the best of them.
