Reggie Wayne was the one I wanted.

How do they pick a guy who not only had a very relevant 2015 campaign, but also had some moments of success with the Dolphins over Dion Jordan, Yatil Green, etc. The guy won a game against the Jets by himself. That should not land him on any all time Dolphin bust list.

As I recall, Wayne was the guy everyone was high on back then. And look how that worked out for Indy. Considering Wanny coached at UM, its a shame how many good-great players we missed out on that came out at the U in the early 2000s. We missed out on a bunch of guys who played on one of the best college teams ever assembled.

Also, IMO, WR was a bigger need that season. They had Chambers and a few decent players.

I also really wanted Todd Heap. He would have been a good pick.

Just because no one knew whether or not Brees would become what he did, is irrelevant. As a prospect, Brees was absolutely considered 1st round talent. I don't where the "noodle arm" thing is coming from, nobody believed that. Drew was small, and didn't throw a great deep ball. Those were his biggest knocks. And Miami needed a QB, especially after Fiedler's regular season and playoff appearance. Nobody outside of Miami's front office thought Fiedler should of/could of been a legitimate starting QB. Damon Huard was the best QB on Miami's roster, at the time...

And Brees was very much in the discussion for Miami. Many in the media believed Miami was one of the teams who would and should target Brees should he fall to 26. Obviously the front office felt different, but that's why we're having this discussion. Jay Fiedler was bad during the regular season and unbelievably terrible in playoffs. Everyone thought QB was a need, except for Wannstedt.

As far as Fletcher is concerned, he was in the same boat as Brees. He lasted to 26 too. And regardless of whatever he did in college, he had no chance to supplant two all-pro CB's ahead of him. He was drafted to play nickle CB, in a scheme that was wasn't suited to his ability. There was no justifiable reason to draft him.

Was Randall Hill a bust? I bet if you ask Cardinal fans, they'd say yes... they traded a first round pick to Miami for him a year after he was drafted. If you ask us Dolfans, we'd say who.. then we'd say no.

Which led to the Ricky trade, which led to the Ricky retirement due to ongoing issues in the offense. The failure to upgrade at QB and add weapons in addition to Ricky, Chambers and McMike caused so many other things to happen which led to the downfall of this team and hasn't recovered from since. Sad I know.

I agree, I remember being really upset after the Fletcher pick. I wanted Brees.

Yeah but there has been some good insight on this thread. I've enjoyed reading it. Never really considered Jamar Fletcher as #1 bust but people made a good case.

Whoever said it was unfair to list Yatil Green because he got hurt is right, I think. I'm sorry I mentioned him.
