I really think that he is going to play a Darren Sproles type role for us.

Think about this. Do you really want him running deep with RT's deep accuracy and his small frame? Probably not.

Buuuuuuuutttt.. Would you want this guy catching the ball near the line of scrimmage or running the ball? Absolutely. If Gase tries to get him the ball with space to run, he could be a RAC machine. I would have a very limited route tree with this kid and plan around him. Slants and screens for days.

3rd dwn RB/returner seems to have been a high priority, since they doubled up on that position.

I could see Jakeem creating mismatches all over the field.

He's just so unique. I haven't seen moves even close to his since Eric Metcalf.

Gase has a very unique talent on his hands.

The NFL fans are gonna fall in love with this kid.

I actually like him more as the third down back than Drake. Drake really didn't have a very productive career at Alabama. He was constantly injured throughout his career and he had a problem holding onto the ball when he was in the game.

Of all the offensive players drafted by the Dolphins, Drake is the player I am not impressed with at all. I think they could have waited and drafted a better RB later in the draft.

I think we'll use him like Tavon Austin, on 3rd & long, and on pure passing downs when the defense is spread out.

Yeah, the Kenyan Drake pick is the one that bothers me the most. There were tons of every-down bellcow RBs available. If Jay Ajayi gets injured, our RB situation is going to be a mess.

    Play that starts at 6:09

That move was so nasty had Grant done that to two players in a hallway, Nick Saban would have stopped to help them.

If Philbin was still our coach, then Grant would have been a wasted pick, but I can totally see Gase utilizing this kid's skill set to the fullest.
Here's to hoping our offense is as fun to watch as anything we've seen in a long time

I watched some tape on him, he's electric, he's similar to Maclin, not polished, but has a natural ability to run in space, combined with rare speed-quickness-acceleration ratio, great value where they got him.

Size is the only concern, and seeing as how he was a 6th round pick, it's not much of a concern, if he's able to get by with his size, great, if not, no biggie, but an amazing little speed machine.

We might not get the everydown RB this draft. Some positions might not have been adequately addressed this year. Maybe next year. Hopefully, we have solved OL, CB, WR, in the draft...and next year all we need to focus on is RB and LB. Next year is a great year to be in position to pick a RB. Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffery...there are some great prospects at RB in 2017. I feel good about our position going forward.

I don't know...he actually had the biggest play in the biggest game that secured Bama a NC. And it wasn't like "who is this guy?"...It was the kind of plays Bama expected him to make. I think he's actually better than what some people are crediting him.

I agree. And on certain "running" plays, you could have him just running motion across the field...that alone will keep a S occupied for a split second to ensure it wasn't a play action pitch to this guy. I like the Darren Sproles comparison.

Grant is the type of guy the Patriots always draft or pick up and we always end up saying "Why don't we ever get guys like that who are just special?" Great pick. I'm so tired of this team trying to win with a 30 year old philosophy.

He is so shifty and has so much balance and body control, you may not see him get hit with anything more than a glancing blow. Probably what's kept him healthy to this point.

This pick is so good on a number of levels.

    1) Keeps Landry from being our KR/PR. Need to keep him healthy and have stop making him take unnecessary hits.
    2) Adds a truly electric playmaker at WR/KR/PR/RB, guarantee Gase will find a way to get him the ball.
    3) Takes the speed emphasis off of Landry. By giving RT a faster target opposite Landry, teams can't keep their fastest defender on him.
    4) Opens up a wide variety of quick hitting/trick plays. The trick play with him hiding behind the OL was genius, and should only work better with the size of OL in the NFL.

Couple things about the kid, he did not return punts in college..all four years..he did return most kick offs..but actually drake has a lil better average on kick offs with about half the sample size..also he's not a third down back..he's a receiver who had more catches the Crabtree and welker at tech..CK made a good point..it's on Ryan to be able to get the guy the ball..his radius is not big so Ryan will have to be accurate..which is a positive because I do think Ryan has intrinsic accuracy.

It will take work, however I do believe he can learn to be a punt returner.

His acceleration and quickness is perfect for the position.

its an interesting topic Dup, not one discussed very much, that ball is coming in at different angles and spin on punt return..much more pressure..need better technique and hands..there's got to be a reason why they kept him off it college..I think punt return ability before the ball is secured is a unique talent..

also, jmo, but return ability is not based in some of the unique talents that grant has...of course it helps but anticipation, vision and seeing the field in angles is just as important..it's not about jump start ability or even lateral quickness it's about going full speed and zig zagging your way thru the defense..the best returners like Devin Hester just cut the field up into three or four moves to the endzone..I love the kid and had him as a targeted player but Im always trying to find the weakness of all our players..don't know if that's one because we have no sample size to look at but there are times on kickoff returns where I see him making it happen on the talents that you spoke of...I don't think that will fly at the next level..he's gonna be a good kick returner but I want him to be the best

I would imagine the reason they kept him off it in college is because it is a dangerous position for the returner and he is their #1 receiver.

I think there is a lot of thought and awareness that goes into punt return ability. It would take a lot of work for him to be able to do it really well. Not to take that big hit. Know when to let the ball go and when to take it.

Honestly, I never thought Landry was that good at that part. I do not think he is a good punt returner. Wasn't close to OJ McDuffie.

It is a very underrated skill to develop.

He was used quite a bit in the style of a 3rd down RB, so that is why he is projected there, especially for us, since he wont be taking Landry's job as the slot WR.

You make a good point about him not being a punt returner, size might have something to do with that as there is a much greater chance of getting blown up on punts than kicks, and Drake's sample size is so small(19 KRs) it's hard to make any determination on that, but it does seem as though Landry will be keeping his PR duties unless someone else pops up.

His potential is very exciting, it is all on if he can take the NFL hits, the one thing I like regarding that is his compact body, most guys his size are slighter, and he will be able to avoid a lot of "direct" hits.

His moves in the open field are amazing, top speed, acceleration, and change of direction are all on a new chart, cuz he's off the charts we know about, lol.

I just like hanging out in this thread and talking about this dude..lol

I think what happened amongst the scouts this year as it pertained to the ''the dream'' is something that I've been noticing for a while, and that is confusing size measurables with frame..

This kid lacks height..but the frame is good and solid..

they made the same mistake on wilson..made the same mistake on a linebacker named aaron maybin..both players I had the right evals on, one was gonna be a star, and one a bust..same with Mingo.

I too was very high on Austin..the talent was just undeniable and if he stayed with it he was destined to be a star..Tavon has good hands and gets upfield a bit differently..only if jakeems hands are as good as Tavon will he have similar successs sceeter.

    shall we pray?

The reason I like Grant better that Tavon, is draft value, I think we get a very comparable player in the 6th round, where Tavon was a 1st round selection, top 10 no less, and the problem is that the vast majority of these small fast guys don't work out, Austin himself has so far been a disappointment, for a top 10 pick, if we get the same production from Grant as a 6th round pick, we're all ecstatic.

Honestly, gauging the overall speed-acceleration-quickness combo, I think Grant is actually better by a smidge, he's got game speed, he can visibly accelerate from an already high speed, and accelerate after a juke to top speed in a heartbeat, it's just rare.
