Okay, let me start by saying. He is a great LT prospect, maybe the best in the draft .... .... Is anyone forgetting we have a pro-bowl tackle? And a talented RT? So what is the plan? A. Tunsil becomes the backup for when Albert gets hurt, and there is a good chance of that. But ... still, is that the "reward" we get for a top 13 pick? Remember these picks are supposed to make us better that is the reason poor teams get them. We got an insurance policy? B. Trade Albert? I don't think there is another team pays you to take your salary dumps (as we did with maxwell). C.Play all 3 .... The consensus is that we got a starting LT with our first pick. But we didn't. There is just as much of a chance of Albert being hurt as there is he plays at Pro Bowl level for 2-3 year (taking him to 35). So, then we got 2 years of cheap labor before we have to hand him a mega contract, and I have a feeling that he wont be super amped about not getting his due for 3 years. But during that 3 years, he plays G, which he has never done before. Or RT, which again is a new position. Its not madden guys, where you just plug a LT into Guard and he's immediately better. Remember how good our Pro Bowl Center was at Gaurd. And even Tunsil plays well at RT, then James is going to happily go learn a position that pays less (When his new contract time comes up) than what he has now. I think its a foolish assumption that a guy can, and will want to play a different position than he was drafted at. I mean, that WR we drafted to play QB has great QB instincts doesn't he. Right now, our offensive line is planning on starting 3 guys who have never played the position they will be manning. Personally, I just hope we don't mess up the kids head with all of this, and I find it strange no one has brought this up while anointing him the HOF LT draft steal. And plain and simple, getting a guard at 13 is not a draft steal.
This is very timely. I look forward to your post tomorrow on whether or not we should draft Tunsil if he happens to fall all the way to 13.
The question you need to be asking is how many times has Albert stayed healthy in his career and what usually happens to our offense because his back up can't block? Additionally, what happens if one of them play Guard and cover up one of the weakest positions over the last three years?
Wow, awesome post dude. except that's not how it typically works. We have an aging LT that misses a lot of time. We have a super talented 1st rounder that has the skill set to play anywhere, fill in if/when Albert gets hurt. My assumption is that when Tunsil does step into the starting lineup, he may play so well that he stays there. It happens all the time.
Branden Albert isnt going to last three years. This was likely to be the final year he was a Dolphin at his current contract regardless.
After the last couple years are people now worried we have to much depth on the OL???? Boggles the mind.
Albert LT, Tunsil LG, Pouncey C, ? RG, James RT. That is the plan. Some time this year Albert will get hurt, unfortunate - but it always happens, at that time Tunsil will kick out to Tackle. Next year, Albert will move on and Tunsil will take over the LT spot as the permanent solution. A number of great LT's have played early on at guard - pretty common practice. Gets them playing time while they make the jump from college. Really, that is far better than throwing them to the wolves at LT from the get go. IT is a nice luxury to have. Why is this unclear?
That would be in the Club Level where most of the good posters hang out to stay away from the poor quality posting in the mains. Plenty of LT's have started at LG. It's not a huge switch compared to others. Oseleme just made serious cash as a guy drafted as a tackle, played guard and shifted into LT due to injury. Albert was a Guard in college who shifted to LT in the pro's. Pouncey failed at Guard because he came off an injury where he couldn't really work on his strength. He's a finesse guy whose strength is in pulling. You want your RG to be more of a mauler type of player. Albert has been injury prone and with his contract he's a huge target to get cut next offseason ($7.2 million cap savings) after Tunsil has spent some time getting used to the NFL playing LG for a year. You really haven't seen much then. I can easily name at least 6 since the turn of this century.
OP plays too much Madden. This was a great pick and we were lucky to have him fall right into our laps. When I was watching the draft and it was our pick and Tunsil was there, I didnt believe our organization would be smart enough to take him (I was hoping he would slide to us the whole draft) but I was wrong, Miami took him and as much crap as I give our organization, I was super proud at Pick #13. Awesome first round.
What?! Come on, it can't be. We got your boy Doughty! In all honesty, I hope he's able to be at minimum a reliable backup for us, but that's wishful thinking for a 7th rounder, who possibly could have been a UDFA if we didn't take him.
You called ? Thats my avatar. There are some very good posters in the Mains but I am sure those good posters would enjoy the level of knowledgeable conversation in the Club forum where opinions are substantiated by valid arguments . Thats why approx 80 pct of our active members are Club Level members. BTW Welcome to the hardest core Dolphin fan site on the web
Rookie left tackles tend to struggle. Let him get used to the NFL as a left guard. Plus how is replacing Dallas Thomas a waste? How in God's Green Earth is replacing Dallas Thomas a waste?
I think we should be looking at Matt Slauson too. The Bears released guard Matt Slauson last Sunday. If we have the cash for him we could actually be solidified at that position. He a vet and kind of a road grader but depth has always been lacking.
welcome to the board Rook, my opinion on this is about replacing a large contract with a potentially better player, then using that money saved after Albert leaves to upgrade another position.if Albert goes all pro on us this year than we will deal with it next year..good problem to have.. The criticism in this draft is not securing Myles jack when they had him #1 on their board..
I was telling him where the discussion was since he asked where the discussion was about Tunsil. Personally I like this draft.
apparently reading comprehension is not your strong suit. The user asked where the discussion was on the Tackle, and I replied. " I believe it is the worst draft I have ever seen one." personally I like this draft.
again I was replying to the rookies question "Can you kindly tell me in which "THE DRAFT SUCKS BALLS" thread that conversation is in?" <My response was "I believe it is the worst draft I have ever seen one." I like this draft. ookkk
Albert played left guard in college, due to Eugene Monroe I believe being the left tackle at the time. Soooo, given that I think there is a pretty simple plan in place here.
You do realize you're questioning someone else's comprehension when the sentence and bold type you are referring to is either missing a word; like 'if' so it would read "if I have ever seen one." Or there is what you've written, which taken a face value makes no sense other than to suggest you've only ever seen one draft as that is what you actually said. Pot calling the kettle black?
It's all good. As others have stated though, proper use of the English language would have helped us comprehend what you were trying to say, or perhaps quoting the post. I spent my lunch watching some Doughty videos though, I'm more pleased than I thought I would have been.
To put these hapless past 10 posts or so to rest; the discussion of Albert and Tunsil and their play at either guard or tackle has already been discussed in the thread titled, "worst draft I have ever seen" half a week ago. That's what 25 originally tried to say.

why you always fall for the trolls guys, that dude had 0 posts before starting this thread now he has 3 and hasn't replied to anything in the last few days.... /thread
you left off the "one" at the end.... I frankly enjoyed this thread... although it's Friday and I'm in a good mood.
