I'm a huge Wake fan so I'm not gonna hate on it, but I hope they're right about his leg, or the 10 mil in guaranteed money will sting a bit.

If anyone can beat the odds, it's Wake, I know DJ will be happy about this.

    Slightly left of center
Good for him. He earned it. Even if he doesn't play to his previous over achieving level I think this very young team is better with him in the locker room. And on the field.

Sounds like a Win-Win for both Wake and the team. I have to think them seeing him already recovered from the Achilles injury made this deal possible (he does seem to be a freak of nature). Now, we just need to get this man into the playoffs!

Great to hear, after the season ended I thought for sure he wasn't coming back. One of my favorites.

Fine...I will be that guy who thinks that this is a bad contract. Emotionally, it is nice to have Wake here longer. But from a talent standpoint, the Dolphins need to get younger and faster..not older and slower.

And yes, I am 100% hoping that Wake proves me wrong.

I've been debating a lot of folks all winter who came to the conclusion that because of his age and this particular injury they were looking for his replacement so he could be a ''situational pass rusher''

when this particular body type meets this type of very unique work ethic combined with that age and discipline you don't bet against the body,

Well considering he was going to be on the books for almost $10 million this year as it was. All it sounds like is they guaranteed it and spread out the money. Probably covers this year and next.

I don't know, other than Marino I haven't really kept track of what it's like to come back from one, i.e. the potential of it becoming a nagging injury despite it being fully healed ala a high ankle sprain. Reaggraviting it and all.

I really didn't like the pass rushing prospects coming out in the draft either. Floyd had potential as a natural bender, but I'm kinda glad they didn't aggressively go after the DE or RB positions because of this.

Better to keep him and have at the very least a feel good moment than to jettison him and run the risk of having his replacement underperform while he possibly thrives somewhere else, all the while looking like an unloyal, unappreciative organization. That's what I would call suffering in both worlds.

Very little, if any, of what you said has any physiological basis for what Wake has experienced. An Achilles tear isn't like an A/M/PCL tear. It's not a matter of a simple arthroscopic procedure, a little rest, followed by proper and dedicated rehab. An Achilles injury is an entirely different animal from surgical technique, healing time, and rehab work. Achilles ruptures are the most devastating in sports and the achillies will never return full strength following a rupture. Given its importance to the human body, specially in regards to athleticism, it's always a game changer. For the worse... Cam Wake is in his mid 30's, has had numerous injuries over the last several seasons, and now has suffered the most devastating injury in sports. Cam Wake that we all know and love, is gone. I'd put money on that. Giving him an extension and more guaranteed money is insane. Love the guy, but business is business.

That's fair, Sam. I think they will get younger and faster next year, when there is a deeper DE class in the draft. A lot of the DEs that will be coming out next year can do the most important thing, and that's rush the passer. This year's crop was just okay at that. Wake coming off a partial Achilles tear would probably be more productive than 90% of the rookies that got drafted this year. Hell, Dolphins may double up next year considering Williams' age too. Then with the remainder of his and Wake's contracts they can show the rookie or rookies how to play the position.

Yes indeed, I was one of those guys, Sam and Clark have a very valid point, Wake's career may for all intents and purposes, be over already.

If he has lost a step, he's not going to get to the QB, so he wouldn't even be very useful as a situational guy, his game is reliant on speed and explosion, if he loses that, he basically loses everything.

I think there's a real possibility that Wake retires this year, because if he can't get it done, I think he's the type of guy that will just retire, but like I was saying I am a huge Wake fan, so I won't hate on the move, Wake will retire a Dolphin.

I wonder if the role and profile for Dolphins' DE is changing with holding the edge and having height to disrupt quick slants becoming more important. With press coverage and Jim Washburn '9s', the speed rush may come from blitzing DBs or subs that line up as 9s (Wake & McCain).

There are more athletically-gifted DTs in the NFL today and more teams use them to penetrate rather than protect LBs. This trend may mean that it's easier to find a pressure DT than it is to develop a 250 lb edge player into a well-rounded DE.

I would like to think that the teams medical dept would have given a thumbs up. Cam wake is not a normal physiologically healing person. He is a Fuc*ing legend.

I'm a big Wake fan so I would hate to bet against him, even if I know the Fins will lose, I don't bet against them, and regardless of points, when I'm doing a football pool I will always take the Fins, so Wake being in my top 10 all time Dolphins, I really wouldn't feel right betting against him.

What I will do though, is celebrate you being right by adding something to my sig,, like DJPHINFAN WAKE FAITH, or some such.

So what would be the bar in your opinion, were you thinking a sack total?

so you think he will retire when he cant get it done...ok...yeah sure I would agree with that, but thats goes for a lot of players..

I'm betting on the guy looking like the player we know.

Exactly need to spend an early pick on a DE next year so Wake can groom his replacement for us
