Toronto might be finding itself here. The Heat are going to have to get a hold of the series.

Odd that Winslow was a DNP. He's struggled this series but at least you give Lowry a different look

Also, Dragic not playing much down the stretch was dumb

Gutted for Whiteside though. Hopefully nothing torn but I have no issues with him sitting out the rest of the season. Too much at stake to risk on a non-contender

Dreadful offense early in the shot clock. Stagnant, lifeless. That seems to be the most obvious tweak for game 4. Have to pick up the pace a little and get into actions quicker as we cross halfcourt. Maybe that can happen more easily with McBob or even Deng at the 5. More minutes with Dragic and JRich together, maybe Spo is ready to try TJ? It'd help if Joe could start doing what we brought him here to do. Dude is 19/52 from the field and hasn't hit a 3 yet...brutal.

Depending on Valanciunas's health maybe we could roll out some lineups that could switch better. I disagree with benching Winslow tonight, thought he was at least worth a shot, but whatever...that's not the reason we lost. Disagreed with sitting Dragic too...that I just don't get at all. Spo made some interesting decisions. But ultimately Wade is the only guy who did anything worth a damn on offense.

It's sad that one of these two struggling/hurting teams will be the one to challenge Cleveland. Yeesh.

Did not see a second of the game, but judging by the score???? The officiating must have been HORRIBLE!!

That was weak^ and no the officiating had little impact, else there would be complaints about it. They made more plays, our offense has been pretty bad and we have resorted to watching Wade do everything instead of sharing the ball and making that extra pass.

From what Whiteside said after the game, i think its safe to say his season is over. And so is the series barring a collapse by Toronto.

I dont understand the Winslow and Amare DNP's. Baffling really.

This felt like I was watching the 2009 version of the Miami Heat. It was Dwyane Wade surrounded by a bunch of stiffs.

It's really frustrating to watch this offense struggle like it does in spurts. There's way too much talent for that to happen. If Whiteside is gone and Valanciunas is back, this is going to be a difficult series to win. That's why it is so important to win the games you have in control (game 2). I'm hoping Spo can figure something out to neutralize Valanciunas, but I'm not optimistic. Without Whiteside and Bosh, the Heat lack the size and athleticism to keep him off the boards.

I love Spo and I know people attack him for little reason so I'm not coming in doing that -

But did he explain the Winslow DNP and Dragic sitting down the stretch when they needed offense?

I like Spo too and its unexplainable... A complete brainfart at a time we need Another player that can attack the basket.

Joe Johnson has been dreadful finishing in the paint, he throws up these wild shots when he attacks the basket. Dude just fingerroll it in, why are u forcefully hitting the rim with the ball.. Just lay it in...

There was other missed opportunities, like a point blank layup missed by Wade.. Three point attempts that should have been two point attempts.

Lowry and Derozan scoring highly contested shots..

They didnt have their big man but we didnt either. They expect to have him back next game though and we are likely not getting Hassan back.

All we can do now is get into another grind it out defensive game, we have to take away derozan or valenciunus out, with the injury valenciunus has, you focus double teams on Derozan and hope it doesnt burn you. Valenciunus would win the matchuo against Haslem, but maybe that injury slows him down..

This is obviously a big deal. With him in the lineup, I don't think Miami had much of a chance. It's a bit more even now. If Whiteside can come back, that would be an even bigger deal.

Same. He's fine against Biyombo, and he gives you the ability to score from that position, which you don't really get from Haslem or McBob.

With Valcuncinias out the rest of the way we might stand a chance. Amare couldn't do much against him but against their other bigs he has a chance.

I wonder if our friend Section has any more info on the injury. It seems like it could be just a few days, or months. Deron Williams only missed one game with a sprained MCL. John Wall didn't miss a game. We all know Steph has been out longer. If Miami can get this to game 7 and Hassan comes back without Valanciunas for Toronto, that would give Miami a huge edge.

You know a sprain is a tear, right? 1st degree - micro, 2nd degree - macro, 3rd degree - complete rupture. Sprains are tears of ligaments - Strains are tears of muscles.

MCL is one of the most painful injuries. Your MCL keeps your leg from buckling inward on every step, so basically, it takes the brunt of what basketball players do. Steph curry's injury is a 2nd degree and he not only has a ton of pain, he has weakness too. If whiteside's is a 1st degree and it's only really painful, he can use a brace to help that. If there is any sign of instability, there is no way he plays.

I'm told, they think on a time basis alone...you can hope for Whiteside to return for game 3 of the ECF's, (if they are there of course). It is not bad, but he does have pain, and he plays a high impact game.

With JV out, The paint opens up a bit, so we should see a stronger focus on P&R's that end up at the rim. Biyombo is really good, but he does foul...a lot.

Wade was magnificent on Saturday, but that's not our team. Now that we are gonna be more small ball oriented, it might open up the offense.

I think Amare starts, and then you might see Deng at the #5 ad Winslow at the #4, and see us play a Up Tempo Fast paced game.

If we get past Toronto, Heat will struggle to win 1 game vs. the Cavs with Whiteside out. Hassan was the the huge mismatch vs. Cleveland. They are at their best with Bron at the #4, and Lue likes Love at the #5. Heat would have been able to play a tricky switching defense, while going right at Love repeatedly with Wade/Hassan P&R's or Dragic/Deng...etc...The Cavs would have had a hard time guarding that.

I think with Whiteside in, you would have seen a LOT less of Love in that series. Without Hassan, the Cavs can just play their best lineups without fear of exposing the rim, and just play matched up.

This injury sucks for a whole host of reasons, but mainly because his market will be much more difficult to judge come the offseason.

Obviously the injury sucks and is at the worst time ever - but is there a silver lining where he stays in MIA for a discount due to injury uncertainty?

Whiteside out 1 to 2 weeks.

3 days of treatment..then a stability test. can play as soon as 6 days from now..or 14 days from now.

With both of the big guys out, Heat probably have the better personnel to play small, right? Losing Whiteside is bad, but as long as Toronto loses JV as well, it balances in your favor?

I still have a blind belief that Miami beats Toronto but I'm not sure what the point would be if they just get blowed out by the Cavs. You don't hang a banner that says you were in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Getting to the ECF two years post LeBron, without Bosh, is a big accomplishment and helps us pitch to free agents.

    You want to get there.

And if Whiteside gets back and can be effective, we could at least hang a loss on them unlike Detroit or Atlanta

Ethan confirmed Grade 1 sprain. Will give it a few days then do structural test, and if the knee isn't loose it comes down to pain tolerance

So if we can get to Game 7 or the ECF, I imagine he plays

You should be right, but the Heat need to get back to moving the ball. As great as Wade has been, you can't just get into " stand around and watch Wade do his thing" mode. Amin Elhassan was on the radio today and said that Toronto is a plus 60-something with JV on the floor, and a minus 40-something with him off. Sometimes +/- can be misleading, but that sounds about right. Hopefully we get back to seeing good Miami and take advantage of that.

This is like a whole different series now...hate injuries. I still worry about Biyombo on the boards and making his presence felt as a rim protector. He's a really solid player, and we don't have a guy to turn to who can really match that. Hopefully we can play faster smallball groups and find some better looks. I would think that Winslow will get some minutes, probably at the 4, given the defense and rebounding ability. Though I never expected Spo to totally bench him last game, so I guess you never know.

The main thing to me is that we need Joe Johnson to show up now. He seems to be arriving late to this series...but hopefully he does get here. He's been pretty awful on both ends even as Spo keeps trusting him with key minutes. These scoring guards Toronto has are giving him issues, and Carroll is outplaying him too when they match up. Sluggish on defense and shooting poorly on offense...just bad. If he can turn it around I think we'll be okay.

    I expect a win.

Back to the starting lineup that actually got us looking like the Dubs for 25 games or so....problem is..no Whiteside to come in with the 2nd unit and look like Wilt.

Spo's going to have to earn his check, he's made some questionable decisions late in games. Obviously the guy can coach but he might over coach a bit with the lineup sometimes in the games I've seen.
