I hope he gets his **** together too and turns himself into LT 2.0......I'm just not buying it right now.

Wasn't like he tore it up the little playing time he got.

Butthurt and defensive???? lol... you took that wrong. I'm not worked up over this at all. I was simply stating that facts that Dion Jordan didn't wake up a year long hiatus last month and stagger into a gym like some are speculating.

As for "Pete Who"; Bommarito's Performance Systems trains many, if not most of the Dolphins players, in the off-season, as well as many other players from other teams and sports.

I wasn't sure if Jordan was addicted to pain killers or not because of his shoulder injury but the USA Today article says that strike one was ecstasy, strike two was Mary Jane and strike 3 was the diluted sample because he didn't know alcohol was also being tested. I guess that answers it.

I think the Dolphins keep him, if not for the long term, for the short term. I think they like the idea of increasing the value of an asset at the least. I say this because I remember from somewhere that part of them using some analytics is to buy 'damaged goods' and then growing them to be productive or at least a tradable asset.

That aside, I like the idea of Jordan in this defence. I'm not as excited as DJ but I enjoy seeing a good redemption story unfold. I hope Jordan shows Dolphin fans that he can be counted on.

a 280 lb or {maybe even more} dion jordan aint tearin anything up..

it was the most disturbing case of coaches not knowing what they had in a skill set that I've seen.

his body has a long way to go, if he works very hard, and the team uses camp to continue to work his on his body body and slowly implement him into the defense then that will be 3 and 1/2 months to get his physique back..with his metabolism and genetics, it can be done..

Gotta admit, I wasn't expecting anything from him whatsoever, but that USA Today article got to me. I'm a sucker for stories of people struggling and losing and then forging a path to turn their lives around. Nothing is set is stone, but it certainly looks like he's got a different attitude. Good for him, we all fall down sometimes, and as long as he's wearing aqua and orange, I'm on his side.

My interpretation is he thought he would be tested for alcohol so he tried to flush his system, but only realized after they weren't actually testing for alcohol. I call BS on that first of all. Second of all its not really any better if he thought alcohol would cause a failed test but he still used it anyway.

Yeah but they test for alcohol on probation. Given his upbringing I can see how he could think that they'd be testing him for booze.

    In any event,
He's worth nothing as trade bait.
    He has great athletic potential.
The current coaching staff is only interested in getting the best out of him (no power plays between coaching and FO)

At the moment DJ is a lottery ticket. I am still extremely skeptical about his football intelligence, but if we take a chance on him and he's great then all is well. If he washes out, well we have planned around him not being a contributor anyway.

It can be done...We have the technology.

My God, how could any coach eff this up now? We have a glut of DE's...Just put him at Leo and let him play. He's gonna tighten up that secondary and that's exactly what we need. I don't care if he's 300 lbs.

He probably does make around 6 million dollars this year...

My problem with Jordan is his game. While I know you feel he was played out of position and put on too much weight under the former coaching staff. I just don't think he is that good.

Pehaps he can eventually be a backup LB or DE in the NFL, but he just doesn't seem to have the smarts or desire needed to be a quality player in the NFL.

Hopefully he has matured and he will prove me wrong, but I'll believe it when I actually see it over the course of an entire season.

The Dion Jordan threads on this board prove beyond any reasonable doubt that Dolphin fans are gluttons for punishment. Anyone counting on this guy being anything more than a mild distraction and a complete non factor on the field is setting themselves up for a huge disappointment.

Regardless of the fevered pitch surrounding his return, I'll continue to assume he is a bum and be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong. Some might consider that me being just my typical pessimistic self, but in the case of Dion Jordan I think it's justified.

    A few things:

    1. Pelissaro's estimate of 30 to 45 days to reinstatement seems aggressive. I would go more like 45 to 60 days (with the latter being Goodell's soft deadline and an amount of time that has a lot of historical precedent for these situations.

    2. Given the crowding at defensive end, I think people wanting Dion Jordan at linebacker are likely to get their wish.

    3. Whether Dion is used at linebacker or defensive end, his primary value in this defense needs to be pass rush. Whether it's blitzing or putting his hand down on the ground in pass rush situations, if he doesn't make an impact that way then you might as well replace him with a Spencer Paysinger or some late round rookie for all that his skill set will actually matter on the football field. This is not a 3-4 defense. This is a 4-3 defense. His best and ONLY bet to make a standout impact in this defense is to do exactly what he was drafted to do which is rush the passer really well.

    4. As a linebacker playing off the line of scrimmage, defending the run, he's really not interesting. He was a capable run stopper from a wide on-the-line position at Oregon but it was also an aspect of his game that drew sharp criticism as he came out of school (Josh Norris and I were the only people I recall actually praising the way he defended the run from an on-the-line 3-4 OLB position). We have no idea how he would be that way as an off the line (over front) linebacker in this this defense, and yes we will be using over fronts at least occasionally. Bottom line though is the linebacker position is one where you've got to be disciplined, you've got to be technical, you've got to be instinctive, and you've got to be a film guy. Dion is none of those things. He's a dropout. So there's a trust factor that isn't there. When you consider the nature of the positions between linebacker defensive end, the latter is a position where you could more easily trust him because it's more physical ability oriented.

    4. His coverage at Oregon was intriguing relative to his station as a 3-4 outside linebacker who is rarely asked to cover. Let's not get it twisted. He wasn't "good" in coverage in some absolute sense. It was relative to, "wow that 6'6" defensive end type dropped back into a hook zone and didn't trip over his shoelaces and punch himself in the dick on the way down, which is usually what those types do." And in Miami, my goodness I don't know if I've ever seen people so strongly overrate a major area of evaluation in a guy based on like three coverage snaps (and not even great snaps if you really drill them down). People are going out of their heads with this Dion Jordan is the next Dexter Coakley stuff, because he once stayed step for step with Gronk, didn't locate the ball and would have had the pass completed on him if Brady had thrown the ball where it was supposed to go. As a "real" (4-3) linebacker, and especially if people want him to play in nickel packages as a "real" linebacker, he will have to do a lot more in coverage than just march onto the field and mirror one specific player wherever he goes (which is what Coyle asked him to do a few times with Gronk and Megatron). He'll have to do a lot more than dropping into a short curl zone or flat zone...and we have no idea how he'll do with any of it since it is so reliant on instincts, film study and being technically sound...all things Dion has never been.

I'd give Belichick, Brady and Gronk 2-4 snaps to figure Dion out. Then they would LOVE for him to cover Gronk.

I think thats underrating his coverage ability, he was in the slot and out on the perimeter at about 240 lbs...looked smooth with pretty good technique not just trying to keep from tripping over his laces..he was effective.

    This article (USA Today).

    Added BOLD for TLDR.

"SAN FRANCISCO – Like everyone else who walks through the doors of this gym,
Dion Jordan had to start by embracing the fear.Fear of letting himself down. Fear of letting his mother down. Fear of squandering his life, not to mention the talent that compelled the Miami Dolphins to take him third overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, before a series of bad decisions and failed drug tests got Jordan banished over a year ago.

“I’m not about to waste it. I can’t waste it. And I (expletive) love doing it,” Jordan told USA TODAY Sports, breaking his long public silence on a couch in Empower founder Tareq Azim’s office before a recent workout. “Who doesn’t love running out in front of 30,000-plus fans and you get that rush? But it’s also things that you can get that rush from that can be very satisfying and can carry you on to a successful life after football.

“I just turned 26 years old, so life starts to hit you in the face. Who are you outside of those shoulder pads and helmet? And it’s weird, but I feel like it’s a blessing for me at this point in time to think about it, instead of waiting ‘til they really tell me I can’t play football no more.”

On Wednesday, Jordan will apply for reinstatement to the NFL. He says he has been drug-free since well before a diluted sample in December 2014 triggered the minimum one-year ban. He is tested for drugs twice a week and hasn’t missed or failed a test since the ban began in April 2015, according to his agent, Doug Hendrickson. And for the past two months, Jordan has been working with Azim, whose holistic approach to “maximizing humanity” has been embraced by the likes of Marshawn Lynch for its ability to get the head and heart to work together, unleashing the body’s potential.

With so many young stars banned for substance abuse – Josh Gordon, Justin Blackmon, Martavis Bryant, Aldon Smith, Daryl Washington – Jordan is conscious that a successful comeback would set an example. He probably has more to prove than any of them, given his limited production when he has been on the field (three sacks in 26 NFL games). And the irony is Jordan’s belief he can do it is driven by a feeling that, for the first time, football doesn’t have to define him.

“The kid has an intention of coming in as a businessman, coming in as a guy who’s representing himself, what he stands for, what he believes in, what he’s learned,” Azim said of Jordan. “He wants to come in and show that becoming bulletproof is possible.”

    'I WAS SCARED'
On any given day at Empower, Jordan is surrounded by a diverse cast – MMA fighters, pro cyclist Andrew Talansky, San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York, employees of capital market firms and technology companies – with little in common beyond belief in Azim, 34, whose willingness to admit his own fears and flaws is part of the game-planning process.

He confronts his “teammates” with the inevitability of death, what they need to be content when it arrives and the way their fears are preventing them from reaching their ideals, which in Jordan’s case led to “seeking acceptance through a channel that really had no value,” Azim said.

Jordan overcame a lot before getting to the NFL, including his mother’s drug addiction and an accident as a high school senior that left him with second- and third-degree burns over 40% of his body. By his senior year as a defensive end at the University of Oregon, NFL scouts were told Jordan was a leader. The Dolphins packaged first- and second-round picks to move up nine spots, draft him and sign him to a four-year contract worth over $20.5 million.

[IMG]Dion Jordan with Tareq Azim. (Photo: Martin E. Klimek, USA TODAY SPORTS)

Jordan says he “never, ever” had a drug problem. But after a disappointing rookie season impacted by pre-draft shoulder surgery, drugs caused problems. He missed six games in 2014 while serving consecutive suspensions for positive tests: one for MDMA (ecstasy) and one for marijuana.
“Like a lot of rookies, you enjoy being a professional for the first time and having that cloud or whatever,” Jordan said. “I realized that’s not what it’s about. I realized real quick once I got in trouble.”

Jordan says he stopped using drugs more than two years ago – months before he gave the diluted sample near the end of the 2014 season. According to Hendrickson, Jordan had been drinking alcohol and didn’t know he wasn’t being tested for that, so he tried to flush it out of his system. “I had a lot of people around me, like my agent and even older (players) that could’ve told me, ‘You’ll be OK,’” Jordan said. “But I tried to do a lot of things on my own and found myself just (messing up). I was scared and I shouldn’t have been scared. I had nothing to be scared of.”

That didn’t matter under the collectively bargained drug policies. So Jordan was cast into an exile from which it’s easier to list the players who returned (Ricky Williams,Johnny Jolly) than those who continued to stumble. He hung around South Florida until around early October, then moved back home to Arizona to be around family. “I tried to stay in the house,” Jordan said. “Just being away from football for so long – it sucked. It sucked bad. It was horrible.” Hendrickson sensed Jordan was “definitely depressed” and wanted to get him back into a regimented program of counseling, training and development before applying for reinstatement. So, he asked Jordan to meet with Azim, who’d worked with Hendrickson and several of his clients, including Lynch, Justin Tuck and Marcus Peters.

Since coming to Empower, Jordan has lost 12 to 13 pounds of fat, Azim said, dropping to a little under 270 pounds on his 6-foot-6 frame. His 8-hour weekday shifts include not only two workouts and physical therapy, but reading and doing a good deed a day – part of a program designed to ignite other positive actions and help Jordan continue to figure out who he is as a person.

Under terms of the substance abuse policy, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will make the decision on reinstatement, after receiving a recommendation from doctors jointly selected by the league and its players union who will interview Jordan. He also must sign medical release forms to allow thorough review of all aspects of his situation and adherence to his treatment plan.

Hendrickson said he has no reason to think Jordan won’t be reinstated. “To me,” Hendrickson said, “he should be a blueprint for the NFL system of guys being out for a year in terms of what he’s been doing and how he’s come on of late.”

    STATUS WITH DOLPHINS STILL UNKNOWN
It remains to be seen how Jordan fares if he gets his shot at redemption – and if he gets that shot in Miami.

Dolphins officials have said they’ll address Jordan’s status if and when he’s reinstated, which generally takes 30 to 45 days from filing. His contract tolled during the banishment, so it now runs through 2017 with a team option for 2018. The coaches and front office that drafted Jordan are gone, leaving a new regime to decide what to do with him before the fifth day of training camp, when a nearly $1.7 million roster bonus is due. (The contract was fully guaranteed at signing, but that voided with Jordan’s first suspension.)

[IMG]Dion Jordan chose to work at Emperor Gymnasium. (Photo: Martin E. Klimek, USA TODAY SPORTS)

“I just want to play football,” Jordan said. “Because I got myself in trouble, I really ain’t got the say-so in a lot of things. But I do have the say-so in how I approach every day, how I approach my workout, how I deal with people, outside when I walk the streets, and how I wake up every morning as far as getting done what I need to do to get back on the football field.”

He doesn’t want to make predictions about how he’ll fare if reinstated for 2016, other than to say it’ll be tough to take him off the field. “I don’t have a problem trying to rush a quarterback or dropping back in coverage,” Jordan said. “That’s the easy part.”

The rest is what brought him to work with Azim, who notes he’s not a football specialist.
“I have no magic,” Azim said. “I do very, very basic, fundamental activities that you and I did in middle school. But the one thing I don’t have a problem doing is believing in people. (Jordan) was very emotional about his interest in wanting to do his presence justice. He believed in me for a moment there, therefore I have to give that belief back. Until we feel each other’s values not being reciprocated, I’ll ride to the death with the kid.”

Yeah, just go into hurry up and run it right at him and watch Gronk ragdoll Jordan over and over.

Jordan can run, we all know that, but he showed no coverage ability on that play, as has been mentioned, a well placed pass and that would've been a completion.

Brady threw for 112 yards that day. Again, I think the Patriots would take Dion covering Gronk all day. It wouldn't take much to trip Jordan up.

I would be as condiment as anyone on our team for that matchup, if, Dion is at 250.. Athletically Dion is superior..now is gronk savvy at times?, sure, he's a hall of fame offensive talent, but Dion is better equipped to handle him than anyone else.

There's a Dolphin fan in me that says, "Waste of a first-round pick. He'll never amount to anything on the field. Don't get excited."

There's the other side of me that is happy to see Jordan get himself sorted out, whether or not he makes the team. At least he won't have to say "what if", and at least he'll be right in mind if he doesnt make it. He was still just a kid when he was drafted, and it takes certain people longer to figure themselves out then others. He can't control the hype around his draft selection and the dysfunction that he got thrust into, as disappointing as his dive into the other end of the spectrum was when it happened.

And there's a third side of me that is seriously rooting for him, rooting for him to just say, "**** everybody, I'm going to prove them all wrong, and I'm gonna be damn sure I let them know it."

The guy is 6-6 and fast, and can at least play. What he needs taught is technique and leverage, and a coach that can find a role for him. John Fox just drafted Leonard Floyd, maybe Gase can gleam something from his former boss.

This is how I envisioned what happened, he drank alcohol then was ill advised by someone who he trusted that he was going to be tested for it. He then proceeded to flush it out of his system. The tester then found a diluted sample and told Dion that alcohol is not being tested. Hence Dion didn't know that it wasn't tested. That was my speculation as I read it.

To begin with, I think he'll be nothing more than back up 3rd and long pass rushing DE and on kick coverage. There are a lot of DEs on the team but in nickel and dime they might play 3 DEs plus Suh or 4 DEs. The more DEs the better. I don't think people are expecting much from Dion right now to be honest. Anything from him is only encouraging.

So, for now, Miami is a 4-3, in which Joseph has said matter-of-factly due to personnel. Who knows long-term? Could he mix in a 3-4 every once in a while? Doesn't he kind of come from that school anyway?

Like Dion Jordan or not, the least Miami can do is see if the guy still has something left in TC. If he can show something, anything, I think you have to consider a roster spot given the possibilities. Let him get his legs wet on the punt teams and kick teams with the rush. A guy with that kind of length is valuable in that capacity. He was responsible, directly and indirectly, for two punt blocks (iirc). Blocks equals turnovers equals potential wins.

And while Miami is fat at the DE spots, that does not mean that one or more of these older guys will stay healthy for the season. I think you absolutely make a spot for him. Believe in the person and the football stuff will take care of itself. If the kid is hungry, let him eat. It will almost be like Miami gets another draft pick this year.

If the ones in that room when he walks into the building believe in him, you make room for that potential. The idiot did drugs. He didn't kill someone. I'm in no way condoning his actions, but Miami drafted him. They need to get back something, and I don't think it's in the form of draft picks because they're likely not to get much.

If he comes in and shows he's giving it a legitimate shot, keep him. Miami has had way too many issues with the media in the last several years. If they bring this kid in and he becomes successful, Miami becomes a media darling and that's a good thing considering the last few years. Maybe players who aren't currently on the team see this and consider Miami in the future? And not in just a "Mike Wallace getting paid" kind of way.

This guy knows this is his very last shot. I'm not sure he will do anything to mess that up.

    Per Barry Jackson
"Contrary to a published report, the agent for suspended defensive end Dion Jordan said this week that the Dolphins have indicated they are excited about having him back and that he’s in excellent shape.

Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to rule on Jordan’s bid for reinstatement by the end of July and “I feel very strongly he will be reinstated without question,” agent Doug Hendrickson said by phone. “He's done everything he has been asked to do. We feel very good where we're at. We expect Dion to start training camp with the Dolphins.”

Jordan is owed $600,000 in base salary for 2016 and is due a $1.69 million signing bonus if he’s on the roster on the fifth day of training camp. “They are excited to have him back,” said Hendrickson, who has spoken to the Dolphins. “Every team wants top talent.”
Hendrickson said the Dolphins haven’t indicated whether they plan to keep him at defensive end or move him to linebacker. Defensive end makes sense for 2016, despite the team’s considerable depth there, because asking him to learn linebacker in his first camp back might be too much to ask.

As for a report elsewhere that he isn’t in the best of shape, Hendrickson said: “Dion is in exceptional shape. [Any suggestion otherwise] is a bunch of foolishness. He's been training eight hours a day in San Francisco. You can’t mimic being in football shape. Once he's reinstated, he will be in football [shape].”

Jordan’s trainer told USA Today last month that he has lost 12 to 13 pounds of fat and was a bit under 270 pounds.

Hendrickson has said Jordan hasn’t failed or missed a drug test since his April 2015 suspension.

According to NFLPA records, Jordan returned $3.35 million of his initial $13 million signing bonus and also returned a $1.69 million roster bonus. He is due to earn $690,000 in 2017, the final year of his contract, with a $2.5 million roster bonus activated the fifth day of 2017 training camp. “I hope everything work out,” said defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, one of many teammates offering support to Jordan. “Everybody knows how great of an athlete he is.”

    • Mitchell said he and Jordan Phillips are splitting first team snaps evenly alongside Ndamukong Suh… The Dolphins surprisingly opened team minicamp drills with Dallas Thomas (not Laremy Tunsil) at left guard and Billy Turner at right guard, but coach Adam Gase cautioned there is no depth chart yet.... If what is happening is what I think is happening, I hope the Dolphins cut Dion Jordan and that the Titans, Browns, Chargers, Cowboys, Jaguars or Ravens put in a waiver claim on him.
