That is sad, such a talented player. Wonder what happened to him...

Bess has always had a troubled life. Rough childhood with his dad not around. Watched his uncle get shot to death when he was in grade school. He then earned a scholarship to play at Oregon St, but lost it when he was arrested for theft and sent to jail. Didn't start playing college football until he was 20 years old, at Hawaii.

After that, it seems like he might have a combination of mental health and drug issues that caught up with him.

Thankful he's arrested and not dead.

Bess has a mental illness. I think the evidence is pretty clear on that. It's not a matter of just having a rough upbringing.

Do you think it is mental issue or the drugs? Or a combination of both?

That's unfortunate. Always rooted for him here, and after he left. Shame... Hopefully he can get his life sorted out and under control.

First off has anyone ever confirmed or heard about Davone Bess ever using any drug other than weed?

Because weed does not make you go ****ing crazy. And his behavior is crazy. In Miami it took six officers to extract him from his house while he screamed, "Hide the guns," "Where's my weed?" and "I want to get in the end zone! Throw me the football!"

That ain't weed. Maybe bath salts if that's what he is into but I haven't heard anything about that.

The dude has serious mental health problems. I hope he gets them straightened out because he seemed like a really good dude while he was with the Dolphins.

Sometimes mental health issues and drugs go together.. Mentally ill people use drugs and the corresponding behaviors are not always a result of the drugs but of the combination of the mental health disorder and the drugs..

I forgot where I read it but I recall seeing an article that stated that 90% of schizophrenic people smoke.

EDIT: Found and article.. Interesting read if you're bored.

This. Bess was always a class act with the Dolphins. He needs help and I hope he gets it.

Nuts... and I either didn't know he had that run in with the law before we traded him to Cleveland or had completely forgotten about it.

Edit.. I mean this article mentions nothing of his troubles in Miami, the article is about him being traded to the Browns... no mention of it.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9216131/miami-dolphins-trade-davone-bess-cleveland-browns

Edit again... hmm i guess there was something reported by the herald 10 months after he was traded. Looks like Ireland managed to keep this one quiet :wink2: Anyway... for him to act this way... sounds like weed coupled with some serious hallucinogens... shrooms?

Just weed, but I've heard sometimes that gets laced with other things. It is a sad spiral for sure. One of my favorite players in that era

From what I remember he was diagnosed as a schizophrenic a few years back. There is a connection b/w b/w weed and schizophrenia. He was my favorite player on all the dolphin teams he was on. I wish him well.

Im a pro-herb guy and while weed doesnt cause schizophrenia, it could definitely have enhanced his symptoms if he already was a schizo. Not to mention playing football and getting hit, getting concussions resulting in CTE, it could be all be a factor. You throw in he had a rough childhood, then I could definitely see this happening. He probably should be institutionalized to be honest.
