let me remind you of the mantra I was given by somebody very close to the Heat:

"We won't lose an asset we developed over money."

This tells me that they will go to the Max if forced to, and if he is not signed here, it's because they want to move on with a different strategy.

Being reported that KD wants to play with Al Horford.

You move on immediately from Hassan if KD wants Horford instead.

Amin Elhassan just told Le Batard that Horfford is better than Whiteside. Agree or disagree?

I don't think it's a slam to Whiteside to say this is true. Al Horford is really really really good. He's just older and has a longer injury history.

Hes a better offensive player and man defender.. Its close..

By the way that statement you put section, any team would want to say that, because if you make it known u lost a talent you developed over money, you look bad right away. But is it their main priority to keep him? We will see very soon..

    They're very different players

Horford is a better offensive player with near 3 point range, but he is nowhere close to the rebounder or defensive presence Whiteside is. A Bosh/Horford front court is a below average rebounding front court and wouldn't provide much rim protection

Horford's max is $27 million. At the max, I want Whiteside. If Horford is willing to go below Whiteside's max that's a different story. But no reason to believe that's the case

Hassan took it personally when all these teams wouldn't give him a shot. Miami gave him that shot. Obviously, he wants to get paid and will get paid, but I think this will play a role in his decision to stay in Miami if the offer is there.

    This.

The issue is this: Horford is better than Whiteside for year 1 and maybe 2. Whiteside is better for the rest of their careers. Age matters, and Horford's year 3 and 4 of a contract might be bad.

I wonder why Durant wants Horford so badly and I wonder if Riley could sell him on Whiteside.

Interesting about Horford and KD. I'm sure the Wizards would consider that duo :)

I'd let Whiteside go if it means getting Kevin Durant. I don't see that as being crazy, considering the mindset is that Chris Bosh is coming back.

Tell you what though, if neither Durant nor Whiteside are on the team next year that will have been a massive defeat for this front office.

I was listening to Woj on the Dan Patrick show this morning and he basically said he feels like all of these visits are more for NEXT year, as in teams are making their pitch to get him to leave, possibly with Westbrook, next season. It does seem to make sense that KD would just return to OKC for one season, see what he and Westbrook can do together or if he needs to move on. Interesting.

He also said that guys can be swayed, particularly by people like Riley

If this is the case, you sign Whiteside. We'll still have a max slot open next year.

I think this would help Miami though, after next season they will know if Bosh will play long term, they can make a few moves if they need to. I mean a lineup of Westbrook, KD, Wade and Whiteside and any other guy would be pretty ****in ridiculous.

I think recruit in 2017 is the fallback plan. They tried to get Aldridge to take a long term view last year so Tiley could easily convert to this position if it is how things play out.

According to the guys on the Dunc'd On Podcast, the Warriors are looking to make a splash in 2017 free agency. Not sure if that'll be possible if they max out Barnes this offseason, but he'll be able to be moved fairly easily, I'd think.

Reports are that KD is not going to sign a 1-year deal somewhere and then do FA again next year. His plan is to sign a 1 and 1 and then sign the big contract next year but with the same team. My gut now says it's not going to be OKC. I agree that you give up Whiteside to get KD, but personally I prefer a front court of Whiteside, Bosh and KD over Horford, Bosh and KD and I'm a big Horford fan. I believe you start with defense and I prefer our defensive line-up with Whiteside. Now if Riley were somehow able to get KD and Horford on a cheaper deal that allowed us to bring in more defensive help....? In the end I trust in Riley.

Broussard (yeah, I know...LOL) thinks that Miami would be in on D12 if they lost HW.

I know for a fact that they like him, but for a smallish number that allows them to move on easily and add more players around him in multiple years (16' and 17')

In other words, they like him if they can turn him into the 5th best player on the team in short order. I DOUBT that is something D12 wants,.

All else being equal I would think getting Whiteside and Durant would be considered higher priority than Horford and Durant.

But all's not equal if it's true Durant wants Horford, not Whiteside. And that's before we even get into the money stuff.

Good lord this team would be good if they had Whiteside, Bosh, Durant, Wade and Dragic with guys like Richardson, Winslow and Tyler Johnson sitting behind them. That can't be possible financially, can it?

"The team that gave you a chance when nobody else did. For me, it would be a no-brainer. Be loyal to the people who were good to you. No one else believed in you when you were in China or the YMCA. The Heat gave him the opportunity and he maximized it. I hope he's loyal to that." - Udonis Haslem on Hassan Whiteside.

We reached the crazy part of the offseason in record time

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/front-office-insider--kevin-durant-s-options-184021631.html

So Durant should sign with Boston cuz he'd only have to play the Cavs and Heat - not the Trail Blazers. Loooooooooordy.

They are my favorite franchise. To Mock. ASSETS. WE GOT ALL THE ASSETS.

Making fun of Knicks fans at this point is just...overkill. Boston fans are better to make fun of, because SOME of them actually believe their own BS.

Heat jump at any cheap asset they can get their hands on. Now they have a roster stacked with talent.

Boston keep sitting on their hands and now a once great asset turned into another wing player that can't shoot.

Both got a meeting with Durant. Tell me which has a better sales pitch "Come play with Wade, Bosh, Dragic, Winslow" or "Come play with Marcus Smart and cap space"

Maybe the Bulls wouldn't play ball - but from everything we've heard, Ainge has completely fumbled chances at guys like Butler and Griffin and Love. Why in the world wouldn't the Celtics go all in on Butler and walk into a meeting with Durant showing him this other superstar he could play with? Like if Jimmy Butler isn't good enough to go all-in for, then no one is.

Seems like Boston thinks Stevens is enough to draw talent - but Durant is meeting with Pop, Kerr, Spo, and Doc. Those dudes can all drop rings on the table.

Great point. The only Real Assets that exist are high lotto picks (even Boston failed to turn theirs into anything) and living / breathing players on average to good contracts.

it's why I say...who cares about contracts..just Collect assets (players). You can always trade them to improve.

Apparently Whiteside posted something on snap chat where some eagle eyed followers noticed that he took down a picture of himself in a Heat uniform and looks like he's packing his stuff

Now he's probably moving regardless of where he signs but after the LeBron car thing, I'm expecting the worst
