Can we take a step back on how funny it is that we all think a player is like "Hmmm, I might sign with the Cavs, but not until after I check out their social content." It happens with every free agent. It's such a weird thing they all do.

Well that wasnt my thought, my thought is Riley is not only being toyed with Wade, the Cavs are in on it too helping Wade with the mind games.

Didn't mean you or this situation specifically. We just all did this when LeBron unfollowed the Cavs WHILE STILL ON THE CAVS. Just a funny thing that fans pay attention to.

People would have said the same about Wade going into this year. Was he a max player this year? I think he was. I don't even know if that's up for debate.

Do people imagine that Dwyane Wade is going to take a contract from the Heat that has built in optionality and use it to be paid amounts that he clearly has not been worth?

Let's run through this. Let's say he takes this one and one structure and then spends this year injured and ineffective. You think he'll opt in and screw the Heat into paying him a lot more than he's worth?

Personally I don't think that's a possibility because I think he'd rather retire than go on playing and being ineffective.

Like I say before, Wade has consistently been selfless during his tenure with the Heat. No public fussing about coaches, taking contracts that give us flexibility, and producing at all-NBA levels year in and year out. He should have been paid a max contract every season since his rookie deal. I have no problem with Miami paying him - I think he's earned it. But I truly don't see him handicapping this team. It's not in his character.

Sort of wonder if the Heat Culture and Family stuff takes a hit with this. That's supposed to be the selling point of the Heat, right - they take care of their own.

    Define "this"?

What exactly has happened that will have an enduring effect on "Heat Culture"?

    Be specific.

They already offered 2 years 40 million, that is taking care of their own. That is ALL we have left to offer, without getting rid of more players and future draft picks. We're offering the full amount we have left.

Dwyane Wade feeling the need to flirt with other teams / possibly leaving because he didn't feel the Heat would offer him a fair deal.

What were the odds that Wade stayed as healthy as he did this past year. Do those odds go up or down at 35 and 36?

I would hope not, but at this point I'm not exactly sure. Wade has become my all-time favorite athlete, and if they gave him 2 years at $50M, I would get on board with it. But I think his camp's behavior over the past few days has been incredibly childish and selfish. He could have conveyed all of this to Riley without dragging the fans into it. He obviously feels like the Heat owe him quite a bit of money, and I could see him rationalizing taking that kind of contract from them when he doesn't deserve it in a year.

A Heat free agent had some phone conversations (he's been out of the country the whole time, mind you) with other teams and this will have an enduring effect on Heat Culture?

I think you're sensationalizing on purpose.

In other news, the lineup of Briante Weber, Josh Richardson, Rodney McGruder, Justise Winslow and (insert center here) has basically been unstoppable in Summer League.

I believe Rodney McGruder is +51 in his 64:10 of play these three games. He is 5 of 12 (41.7%) from downtown, has 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 26 points.

He's 6'5" and 205 lbs, plays small forward, was around 38% from three with Heat's D-League, seems to have legit handles and defensive skills, finishes well at the rim and has a very quick and resourceful stroke on catch and shoot threes. From what I have seen he also seems to have good awareness and passing skills. He definitely seems athletic. He was a 74% free throw shooter with Skyforce this year.

What I think is pretty interesting about him is how well rounded he is.

I mean...if I'm sensationalizing you're going equally far to play this down. He and his wife are tweeting cryptic stuff about relationships and loyalty. He's playing this out in the media. He's following other teams on social media. To say he's juts out taking good-faith free agent visits seems an over-simplification.

Also - he's DWYANE WADE - the idea that he would need to go out and take free agent visits at all is sort of my point!

Is there a better team than Miami in finding undrafted and d-league talent right now? Don't think so.

Everything we're hearing is being leaked by whom? It's not just made up by the media. Also the passive aggressive social media comments by him and Gabby. I don't think any of that is necessary to get what he wants from the Heat. All it does is cause hysteria among the fan base.

They basically created a max contract player out of nothing (Whiteside), and in Tyler Johnson they've created an 8-figure salary player out of nothing, and with Josh Richardson they'll have created another huge contract player out of very little (usually considered a throwaway pick). Then you go back and there was Willie Reed and Ian Clark, guys who escaped through the clutches a bit. Then there's James Ennis.

Now they're working on Briante Weber, Jarnell Stokes and (I hope) Rodney McGruder.

IMO the odds of Wade missing time are not as high as most think. The missed time the two previous seasons was expected. He had a unique procedure where the doctors recommended a two year maintenance schedule after which he was supposed to be fine. Much of the missed time those two seasons was part of the scheduled maintenance. Last season was the first year off of the maintenance schedule. Obviously age is a consideration, but what we saw last year is basically where Wade is now health-wise. I don't see it as some anomalous year.

Now CBS Sports is running Wade to Cavs stories. Usually by the time they get around to reporting this stuff, it's close to happening.

My guess is Riley and Arison will be on non speaking terms with Wade for a long time even if he signs here, possibly the duration of the two years.. Elisburg will handle the contract with Wade and his agent.

The odds of any 35 and 36 year old player missing time is relatively high. Especially if they are playing starter's minutes.

On the bright side for Heat fans I would think this means their pursuit of Willie Reed would be called off, so Heat are free to pursue him.

I totally get why Durant made this choice - but it just feels SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad for the league. GS already set the wins record, so it's not even like you can get hyped up to watch them make history. It's just going to be a long, boring season with an inevitable ending barring a major injury.

Haven't been watching d league but I watched plenty of him at VCU. He was consistently one of the best defenders on the floor and a steal maestro. Played with a really high motor and showed a high bball iq in Shaka Smart's havoc style of play. To be honest he seemed like a lesser version if Winslow at point guard. If he can develop a shot I think you have an NBA pg.

Talking about Rodney McGruder, I don't mean to undersell Stefan Jankovic.

There are some pretty obvious reasons to be interested in him as well. The dude is 6'11" and 235 lbs with a really good shot, and he moves pretty well for that size.

He's played 41:17 thus far and is +7 in that time mostly because he hasn't necessarily played in the lineup with Richardson and Winslow. He's got 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 22 points and has shot 2 of 5 from downtown. He was really on display against the Clippers when he had 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting. But he's also collecting fouls, some turnovers, etc.

I hate to nitpick Jankovic's game, and there's plenty to pick at thus far in summer league from what I've seen, and then have him turn out to be a Tyler Johnson. Johnson was a guy that stood out his first summer league with Miami for his physical skill set (his ups) and had tongues wagging that way but I didn't think he looked all that sound right away in that summer of 2014 so I wasn't sure he'd stick on. Few months later he was playing some and looked a lot more interesting, but streaky, and I wanted to see a whole lot more of him during that season while Wade was injured. Then they seemed to want him at point guard and that seemed pretty inspired to me, and that's how he's become an 8-figure player because he's unique like a poor man's Westbrook as a PG.

I guess the real story with summer league is that both games Justise Winslow and Josh Richardson have played, they looked like men among boys. Legitimately.

He's every bit of the steal maven you describe, every bit of the high energy, high motor guy you describe. But he's so physically limited in what he can do in terms of penetration. He also seems to be prone to getting the ball stolen, and as you implied that shot of his hasn't come around yet.

The lack of offense will be why he doesn't make the NBA like you're saying - I agree. Need to at least have a Rondo or Andre Miller like impact to get away with a limited shot as a PG.
