Saw X-Men Apocalypse last night. It wasn't nearly as bad as the critics say it is. Not the best superhero film but certainly not the worst.

Finally watched Deadpool... and damn, I hate Ryan Reynolds. He's the same fkn character in every fkn movie. That said, this was definitely the role he was intended for. Lol...

Opening credits were fantastic. I was already chuckling before RR/DP made an appearance in the taxi.

Some of the movie was borrowed... the older, wiser, sage - in this case his blind landlady who he traded insults with, the glib buddy from the bar, the FU with allowing the love interest get taken, the bar scenes... Anyway, the dialog with the exception of Colossus, was very well done and mostly fresh and fun. The British badguy - but liked that they had fun with most of the cliches.

My biggest complaint was Colossus. Someone needs to be nutted over that decision on both how he was CG'ed and portrayed.
The armor was too gray and the CG was bad. The accent and voice was bad. The dim-wittedness sucked, and throwing up what looked like mercury at the site of blood... How cliche with the "Big, slow, stupid Russkie" stereotype. Would have been 10 times better if he had been his normal self at least at the beginning, and during the final confrontation/fight scene then transformed into metal prior to any action. Also hated that he mostly got his *** whipped by Angel. The strangling scene was probably the worst of all of it.

The dialogue was the real star though and loved the Ferris Bueller tribute at the very end.

"Whose kitty litter did I just **** in?"
“I’m touching myself tonight.”
"Dad?"
"You have something in your teeth."
“Whatever they did to me made me totally indestructible… and completely unf**kable.”
"You’re about to be killed by a Zamboni. Tell me where your boss is or you’re going to die … in five minutes."
"I bet it feels huge in this hand."
“My common sense is tingling.”

Just finished watching a beautiful movie that everyone should throw on their priority list [especially if you're a parent]- Rudderless.
link: http://123movies.to/film/rudderless-5263/watching.html

It's about a father whose teenage son dies in a shooting and then re-finds himself through his son's music. With Billy Crudup, Antone Yelchon, and some Lawrence Fishburne. Crudup is outstanding. The film is heartfelt, emotional, charming, funny, and everything in between...... and there's a turn that I was not expecting. It kinda had the feel of 'Life as a House' with Kevin Kline for those of you who've seen that great flick. I gave it a 10 on IMDb. Not gonna lie- this damn thing had my eyes watering a couple of times. Easily one of the best films I've seen this year.

I saw X-Men: Apocalypse today and enjoyed it. As a fan of the X-Men movies, it was what I expected, and I enjoyed it. A slight step down from the previous two, IMO, but still good performances by McAvoy and Fassbender. I thought that they did a good job with the characters that they introduced and/or reintroduced, though I felt that the actor who played Cyclops and the actress who played Jean were both weak, and that she was especially wooden. Worried a little bit for future films if those two are going to be the leads, and it felt like they were suggesting that. There were some truly emotional segments, and a few really funny ones (mostly involving Even Peters as Quicksilver), but for the most part is was wall to wall action with an appropriate amount of setup. I wasn't ever upset about how they handled anything or anyone, so the writers and director get good marks there.

And if you've seen it or don't mind spoilers:

The movie also gives a clear lead in to what is likely to happen in the next (final?) Wolverine movie coming next year. I thought that it was handled well, though I was surprised at how little screen time Hugh Jackman got in this one.

IMO, he was too old and his metallic body too gray. Why? Colossus was chrome, not gunmetal in the comics and in the XMen movies.

Hated he was middle aged, pretentious, arrogant, and preachy. He was eating constantly and his voice was annoying. Hated his dialog and that he was slowwwww when moving, even for a big guy. Hated he got his azz kicked by a girl, even if she was an enhanced super soldier. And he was helpless when she started choking him. Then he threw up mercury or something when Deadpool shot the badguy at the end. Really? GTFOH...

Nah, I didn't like anything about this version. It was too much of a caricature for my taste.

Best thing he did the whole movie was throw a tractor tire into some people.

Hope I never see this version of Colossus again in any form.

You see elves briefly in a few Stormwind scenes, but no Tauren, Trolls or Gnomes. A few dwarf scenes were in there, and some Draenie (right at the beginning, being sacrificed by Gul'Dan). The movie did end in a manner that suggests they are open to more films though, which likely would start to incorporate the other races more.

To be honest though, they were not needed - it is an extremely busy film overall.

There was a very brief surprise appearance by a non-playable game race that got everyone laughing loudly.

If they wanted to make a movie true to the game franchise, it would feature endless walking/travel.

Maybe they have a character who represents NPCs (and has 1 line in the whole movie that he repeats whenever approached). Or maybe they have one character who basically just stands in place the entirety of the movie, to represent AFK people.

Oh, and they definitely need the ultimate foil to the heroes. I'm talking about the one and only: LEEEEEEROOOOOOOY JEEEEAAANKINS!

Yes FinD a little one had a cameo. I did also regret the lack of Leeeeeeeeroy Jeeeeeeeenkins. Travel was featured though - actually the griffin bits were a highlight.

Personally, they should have made a starcraft movie. More natural movie conversion. The war craft movie got a bit bloated with world building and setups. Still, I enjoyed it for what it was, a summer blockbuster. Wow fans will probably enjoy it. Non Wow fans may get a little lost.

Watched two movies on Blue Ray that were new to me this weekend, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Kingsmen: The Secret Service, and enjoyed them both. Panda wasn't as good as the second one, which is one of my favorite action comedies in years, animated or not, but it was enjoyable. JK Simmons was terrific as the villain. Kingsmen wasn't quite as good as I've heard a lot of people say that it was, but it was fine. I thought that they could have done a lot of things better though, and the last quarter or so of the movie felt rushed and kind of "cheap" or rushed compared to the rest of it.

Saw Tarzan because my dad wanted to....

Dear god that movie sucks so bad. Its every bit as trite, cliche and overwrought as it looks in the trailer. So many things were groan worthy in that movie....so many.

The CG (except for the wildebeest stampede or when they CGed people swinging from vines and stuff) was excellent though. The Jungle Book is 20 times the movie this POS was.

It also makes me believe my fears for Harley in Suicide Squad are legit. Robbie is terrible in this, and from the previews of SS, she looks horrible as Harley.

I saw the latest trailer (don't know if it's the same from your movie) and I have to agree, I'm not convinced she's going to be any good. However, I did read the test audiences liked her and DC apparently is talking spin off because they liked her... Neither really means anything at this point, but we'll see soon enough. Note: I wish she would of adopted her wolf of wallstreet accent for this.

I just hope the movie is decent. Suicide Squad could be an awesome franchise if handled properly. I don't have a ton of faith in WB though. If it does well, I'd like to see WB try to make this their Deadpool franchise and go rated R for the sequel.

Batman v. Superman: Directors cut/Ultimate edition/extended cut/whatever it's called.

I decided to check it out. It's a much better movie than the theatrical version. To be clear, it doesn't make BvS a great movie. It's now a serviceable movie. Closer to good than bad, but still lukewarm. The extra 1/2 hour of story fleshes out important story elements that seemed to randomly only appear in the film. The directors cut also added some layers character development that were missing. Honestly, I don't know who cut the theatrical version, but wtf were they thinking? As Mike from Breaking Bad would say, no half measures. Go all the way or not at all. The effort to trim the film down to get it closer to 2 hours was a mistake.

The movie still suffers from a number of other issues that are subjective... I think a lot of that has been covered already, but at least the directors cut makes the film fully coherent.

I feel like her performance is going to suffer from what I like to call the "Big" Miscalculation. In the movie Big, Tom Hanks as we all know, plays a kid trapped in a man's body. He was typically Tom Hanks charming in the role...but....though he acted like a kid, he acted nothing like the kid who was in the movie that he was portraying. Harley is insane, and Robbie is going to play her as insane, just nothing like the specific insane that Harley is. Harley is an evil Lucy (Lucille Ball) and Robbie looks to be playing her as just typical movie crazy and overly sexual.

I've said it a thousand times, but the biggest mistake DC made was not putting Bruce Timm in charge of its movie universe. He should be DC's Kevin Feige and he would never let that happen to Harley.

I saw Independence Day 2 yesterday, and while I wouldn't say that it was an above average movie, I also don't think that it deserves the extremely harsh reviews that its getting from critics. Its a fun movie, that continues the story of the first, and has some really good special effects. It fails to live up to the original in many ways, but thats also common of many, many unplanned sequals.

Who did the WB hire for the DC film universe? It was fairly recent. Don't know his qualifications though. Hopefully he gets these franchises on track.

Edit: your "big" example reminds me of another issue. Will Smith, who will be playing himself in this film, undoubtedly.

Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett and Paul Dini should be the only ones handling DC films. Their work on the DC Animated Universe is incredible.

I like to think they were approached and they just turned it down because they prefer animation, because I don't want to believe the execs in charge of such massive potential were that ****ing stupid not to offer it to them.

Had those 3 been in charge, they would have made the MCU their *****.

It certainly wasn't special, but it started out pretty well. When the story focused on the characters played by Liam Hemsworth or Jeff Glodbloom, it was fair to good. However, a lot of the others were either totally over the hill, or else were just getting their feet wet, and weren't ready to carry their scenes in a major production, especially since the writing wasn't top notch. There were also too many "filler" secondary characters who had no purpose and could have been done without.

I saw "Free State of Jones" the other night. Very good, but very long. Matthew McConaughey is very good. Mahershala Ali is good, but I can't help but think of him as Remy Danton from "House of Cards". While there's not as much action (Civil War battles) as I thought there would be, it still had plenty of intense moments, and, for someone who enjoys history (guilty) it's very interesting, though there are certain things I wish they could have gone into more detail on (Mississippi's rigged election, some of the "laws" passed by Andrew Johnson after the Civil War, etc.). Solid B+ from me.

Excellent fun movie. If you want something intense, edgy, violent, and suspenseful, this one will likely do the trick.

5 recently watched movies, all worthy of 8+ on IMDb in my eyes:

Demolition
with Jake Gyllenhaal. Very good Indie drama. Strong performance by Jake.

A Brilliant Young Mind, 2014. Awesome movie about an Autistic kid with special mental ability.

Begin Again, 2013. Mark Ruffalo & Keira Knightley. So much better than I thought it'd be. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Ruffalo is excellent as a drunk, scruffy, washed-up music exec trying to rekindle his career.

The Road Within, 2014. A young man with Tourette's (Robert Sheehan- Nathan from 'Misfits'), an anorexic girl (Zoe Kravitz), and a severe OCD kid (Dev Patel, 'The Newsroom') ditch a mental health facility to embark on a cross country road trip to dump one of their mother's ashes.
Takes a few minutes to get used to the protagonist's Tourette's. Feel good comedy with a strong dose of profanity.

Zulu, 2013. Crime/drama/thriller with Forest Whittaker and Orlando Bloom. A pair of South African homicide detectives investigate the murder of a young white girl that's tied to a new street drug which is linked to the disappearance of local black street children. Never been a fan of Bloom's but his performance in this was quite good.

My older daughter (5 next month) has wanted to see it since the trailer was part of the Blu Ray for Minions. She seriously would watch the trailer for Pets several times a day for a while, lol. However, since seeing more of it in longer trailers, I don't think she'd sit through it. We'll catch it on DVD later on.
