I hear they signed Okaro White from their summer league team. That's a little weird to me. Basically a rebound specialist with maybe a little bit of added scoring ability. He was the 2015-16 MVP of the Greek League so there's that.

Would've preferred Victor Rudd obviously, but I guess it doesn't matter because these guys aren't going to be members of the Heat in 2016-17. They'll be playing in Sioux Falls.

Did Barry Jackson really just say Dion Waiters becomes the immediate front runner to start at SG?

Barry Jackson is a great reporter. He is awful when he editorializes.

Waiters is in a competition to remove Briante Weber from the rotation and become the 5th guard.

That could be his thinking. he is taking $4mil less to play here over OKC's rescinded qualifying offer that was pulled a week ago.

Men lie, women lie, BARRY DNT.

(I'm so excited for Heat twitter to find all the fun Dion quotes over the years)

Maybe they're setting Josh Richardson up to be the most popular man on the team.

Maybe there are things that they would like to see Josh Richardson learn from Waiters, come to think on it.

Also this would ostensibly allow Tyler Johnson to focus more on point guard, no?

Nah..this is a value signing. they got a player worth $6-7mil per year at $2.9mil. Will make for a nice trade sweetener in February.

Are his stats supposed to be good? Because they don't strike me as any good. And there's nothing on his tape that is all that striking visually either.

He can get to the rim as well as anyone - but he can't finish to save his life. Also avoids contact so doesn't get to the line much. Sometimes he gets his 3-ball to drop. He mostly dribbles the air out of the ball and shoots long 2s. When he gets hot, he can go off. Throws down some good dunks. Is a good passer. Should be a good defender but can't seem to focus - especially off the ball. Thought in the playoffs he developed a little niche of defending much bigger players in the post due to his stocky frame.

I'm a total homer but I still think he has a ton of talent - and works his tail off. He just doesn't seem to understand his role (or accept it.)

I'm pretty surprised that he didn't get more money with all the cash that was thrown around this summer. Maybe had he been released from his QO earlier, he would have made a lot more and teams just already shot their load and realized these deals are crazy.

Also, the social media outrage from Heat fans has me scratching my head. This is a guy that was 4th in minutes played, and the 5th leading scorer on a team that very nearly went to the Finals (where they would have had at least a fair chance to beat the Cavs). He's 24 years old, so he still has upside, gives the Heat even more 3pt shooting as he shot nearly 36% from 3 last year. And they got him for peanuts. What about any of this is so bad?

His numbers are deceptively good if you do comparison shopping with guys like Danny Green and Marco Bellinelli that re widely considered good contributors. Problem is that those two players are declining commodities.

His .492 TS% is below average but in line with many SG's that are considered valuable contributors.

He is clear cut not better than TJ (who has fabulous numbers) and J-Rich (who has all-star aspiring numbers)

Important Dion Waiters fact: his name is an anagram for Saint Weirdo.

I think it would be nice to see Dion Waiters rub off a little bit on Richardson in that I feel like Richardson doesn't attack enough, isn't assertive or selfish enough, and Dion Waiters seems to have too much of that if anything.

That player option is for show only. There is a 99.9999999999999999999998% chance he opts out of it since the deal in the 2nd year will be 70% below league average for a player of his tenure.

    it's essentially a 1 year deal.

Around the league this move is being seen as a potential steal, yet Miami Heat fans are somehow hating it. I really don't get it.

Waiters can create offense off the bench. Some value at the back of the rotation there, can get his own looks and make things happen with the ball in his hands.

He's 24 years old and cheap as hell. Seems like he feels he's got something to prove, gambling on himself for the cap rise. Lotta guards though. I imagine we'll be going small a lot. I could see Waiters being really solid; the question is distributing minutes.

I'm not a Waiter's fan. I think he's plenty athletic enough and I'll assume that Spoelstra will get him playing D well so for the price I can't complain about the signing. I just hate his offensive game. He takes so many inefficient shots and can't finish or even draw fouls. On the bright side, he does make a higher percentage of those inefficient shots than you'd expect even when he's off-balance so there's some natural shooting talent there. I think I don't like him him b/c he strikes me as a dumb player. But at least he's still young. If he can be trained he should be a steal. But I still hope he's way down the bench.

Both he and Ellington take pretty bad shots. Spoelstra has his work cut out for him to make them both become much more efficient shooters.

The thing about Waiters is he can create offense. Right now, the only guy you know can do that and you know will be healthy is Dragic. You hope Richardson will be able to do that consistently, but I don't know that you can count on it right now. I'm not expecting him to turn into an all-star or anything, but in a year where the expectations will be low, I think taking a chance on a guy like this is fine.

I said 3 weeks ago I had the Heat at around 35-38 W's this season and was called names....ESPN has them in that same vicinity.

Not that they are right, or that I am right but goes to show that my prediction was a prediction and not "hating" by any stretch.

    That is all.

The imagined "hate" argument is getting comical at this point. Section, I believe, was the only one to respond to your prediction, and at no point did he indicate it was hate. He simply said he disagreed, and mentioned you being wrong about the Heat before. Is that a shot? Sure. Is it claiming that your prediction was "hate" or calling you names? I certainly don't see it that way.

Personally, I think you are entitled to your opinion, and I don't think you or ESPN are alone there. There are certainly quite a few question marks, especially if Bosh isn't back. But I wish we could just end this perceived saltiness of Heat fans, because it's incredibly overstated. The majority of the posters in this thread are Heat fans, so of course we are going to lean in that direction during discussion.

and I pointed out the times you were spectacularly wrong.

I ALSO said that the number was in "range" if Bosh didn't play. I also said that if Bosh played they could threaten their win total from last year.

I'm shocked. I didn't see any way this happened. I wonder if this is some kind of response to Durant leaving. Good for OKC. This changes things a bit for Miami I'd imagine. There will still be good FA's, but the crown jewel is off the market.

The good news is, this draft is absolutely loaded at PG with multiple players with star potential. In FA, I'd probably turn my attention to Giannis Antetokounmpo.
