Glad we didn't pay him. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that former Dolphins and Browns receiver Brian Hartline will join Jones in San Diego on Tuesday to work out for the Chargers. Hartline hasn’t found much of a market for his services since being released by the Browns in 2015 after one season with the team. Hartline had 46 catches for 523 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games for Cleveland last year and spent the previous six seasons with the Dolphins.
Honestly whenever Cleveland used him he played pretty well. He had 8 catches in each of his last 3 games of the season, I'm not saying resign him or anything and I get that people got frustrated with his lack of YAC, but the guy deserves a roster spot somewhere. He could still get 1000 yards in the right situation.
he was a 15 ypc guy. He belongs in the nfl. He's a 3 or a 4. He broke his clavicle in the middle of Dec
Hartline definitely deserves a roster spot in the NFL. I have no doubt he'll catch on somewhere. A place like San Diego would be ideal for him. Rivers will add longevity to the career of a Brian Hartline or James Jones, or both.
Brian Hartline gets so much crap from the fans. I'm not sure why. Yes. He did become a mole for the media at the end, but he produced relative to his draft spot. He's absolutely a roster-able WR at the point in his career.
He's horrible. He's terrible at YAC, he can't score, he's not fast, his hands are overrated, he can barely stay on his feet, and to top it all off, he was horrible teammate that threw players under the bus to the media. its crazy to me how someone can undervalue Thill but overvalue Hartline.
This site is a lot more sane about Hartling than the other site... I remember so many arguments about his 1000 yard seasons and how good he is for chemistry... really... who else did we have besides Hartline that year... You give Matthews the same targets Hartline was getting and he would have produced more..
We made Davonne Bess productive. Looking back, those were some lean years in terms of overall talent.
If our QB was anyone else, people would be bragging how that guy made horrible Hartline a multiple 1000yrd receiver.
No way. Pre-knee injury Hartline could. He was nearly unstoppable in his comeback sideline routes. But post-knee injury Hartline is a completely different guy. He's lost a step, and can no longer make those explosive cuts. Now he's just a regular guy out there, running in a straight line.
Thread about Brian Hartline.... Brings up Tannehill twice in an asshat manner. Why are the mains struggling again???
The four games he started he had 8 catches for 74 yards, 8 catches for 83 yards, 8 catches for 107 yards and 4 catches for 32 yards and two tds. Thats 28 catches for 296 yards and 2 TDs which would be 112 catches 1184 yards and 8 TD's if we take those averages for the year through 16 games (yes, I know it's only 4 starts and the numbers probably wouldn't have been exactly that). Really it depends on how healthy he is, I still think he can make a difference for the right team, I think San Diego could be a great fit. If we didn't have such a young and talented group of receivers I would be fine with us bringing him back for the right price.
That same argument was used to back Ronnie Brown's talent. The reality was true then as it is now: he's not that good.

Ronnie Brown was really good. 2005-2009 or so, when he was on the field he was a beast. Problem of course, he wasn't on the field enough. After the foot injury against Tampa Bay, he was never the same. 4081 yards rusing in 60 games (not all of them finished), which is about a 1100 yard average per 16 games. 31 rushing TDs. 151 receptions. 5330 total yards from scrimmage, which is about 84 per game. He had 991 yards from scrimmage through six and a half games in 2007 before he tore his knee up trying to make a play on an INT return. Also had to share the carries with Ricky most seasons, even when he was healthy.
I get your point, and one has to... uh, admire (?) your defense of Ryan Tannehill, but is it really unnecessary in this thread. Stop it, please.
No you both are right. Thill has nothing to do with Hartline. It was a JUGS machine that threw the ball to him and made him a 1000yrd receiver.
Brian Hartline in 2014: 16 games played, 16 started. 2 TDs, 474 yards. In 2015: 12 games played, 4 games started. 2 TDs, 523 yards. McCown/Manziel/Davis > Ryan Tannehill.
At this point, I'd love to see NE sign him. I wonder if I mentioned Tannehill here...if there'd be the same response, or any at all. Maybe I'm afraid to realize that nobody here has a boner for me, like they do for Fin D. Crying to mods as you call a member an asshat for mentioning the QB a WR played with ? .... Child Please.
No he wasn't. He was over drafted and only had 1 thousand yard season in his career. I used to buy into it as well. He was not that good. The 'inconvenient truth' was and away better than Brown.
You mean Frank Gore? Yes, certainly. Lots of teams have had better backs than Ronnie, and yes, he was overdrafted, but that doesn't mean he wasn't good. But three different season ending injuries were too much. You don't have to be a HOFer to be a good NFL player. Lots of rungs on the ladder.
But it's about Hartline, being unemployed. Not who threw him passes. Like I said man, I get your point. Totally. I just dont think its necessary because it's just going to turn into a disaster. I, personally just dont think its needed. No WR would exist without a QB, and that works both ways. Hartline was also a part of his success here with Ryan, he was a good route runner himself and his hands were pretty reliable. He provided good production from his draft spot, and yes, of course that involves a QB. The ball has to come from somewhere, everyone knows that... It's just... pointless. Heck, the only thing the OP even says is "Glad we didn't pay him", yet here we are... Anyways, I'm not saying anymore... it's just not worth it.
